This campsite provides a great location to use as a base for day hikes. The tent site is situated beneath a canopy of two large Red Oak trees. This property was formerly a farm and has since grown back to a pioneer Hardwood Forest. There are stone rows throughout the farm and some areas that have been cleared of invasive vegetation and planted with native grasses to enhance the deer population.
We suggest day hikes such as Catfish Fire Tower, Van Campen's Glen, and Buttermilk Falls. Here's a list of our recommendations for hiking, fishing, and just plain old exploring:
The Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area (DWG) and nearby Walpack Fish and Wildlife Management Area in Layton have many hiking trails (See the National Park Service's website). Great areas for sightseeing, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting.
Buttermilk Falls, (trailhead on) Mountain Road in Layton. Hike to the top of the beautiful waterfalls near Walpack and take a 6.8 mile loop trail to Crater Lake.
Walpack Inn, National Park Service Rd 615, Layton. A beautiful restaurant with an entire back wall of windows with a view of the Kittatinny Valley. The Walpack is open on weekends for dinner only.
Appalachian Trail (AT). Check out the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center located along the trail in Blairstown. The AT runs through the DWG. \
Long Pine Pond amp; Crater Lake in Walpack. Both are spring fed and great for swimming and boating (clear water).
Van Campen's Glen, Old Mine Road, Hardwick. The 2.1 mile loop trail features several cascades and waterfalls, a narrow stone valley, and a lush hemlock ravine.
Catfish Fire Tower, Millbrook Road, Hardwick. A rocky 2.0 or longer 4.4 mile hike to the top of the ridge. Great views on NJ and PA.

Delaware River- Great for swimming, boating, tubing, canoeing, fishing. Keep your eye out for Bald Eagles!

The Paulinskill (Blairstown) and FlatBrook (Old Mine Road, Hardwick) rivers are local spots for trout fishing.
On Saturdays during the summer, you may want to try out the Blairstown Farmers Market on Stillwater Road. Hours 9:30 to 1:00 pm.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Twin Oaks. Stephen and Carol are amazing and gracious hosts. Their property offers great amenities and is a fantastic launching point for great hiking, eateries and wineries. Best Hipcamp we have visited!! 5⭐️➕You are close to the Delaware Water Gap. A must hike is Van Campens Glen.

We loved camping here (even in the rain)! Our kids had a blast climbing the big rocks around the firepit, and the trees on the land were beautiful. The campsite provided the perfect amount of privacy while containing everything we needed (flat spot for our tent, a picnic table, and a pit toilet a short walk away). Thanks for a wonderful stay. We hope to be back soon!

We had an amazing weekend under the shade tree at Brendan’s. He was incredibly accommodating, and the land was beautiful from sunrise to sunset. It felt perfectly secluded yet still only 10 minutes from town. My only regret was not bringing my fishing pole!

Beautiful, quiet and secluded site. Lovely, respectful, warm hosts who make you feel welcome and then leave you alone 😊. Plenty of wood, water, and a nice outdoor toilet. Lots of hiking in the immediate area - and a hammock for a blissful afternoon nap.

I loved tent camping on Steven's property! There was a perfect space cleared out to set up tents. The fire pit was already partially lit and the site had plenty of chopped wood for us to use. Water for cleaning hands/dishes was provided. The outhouse was clean and provided just enough privacy. There was a large cozy hammock and trees for us to hang our own hammocks. The property was large enough to walk around and explore. Although the owners had a house on the property, it was far enough away to not feel like you're in someone's backyard. Would camp here again.

It was exactly what we needed. It was peaceful. It was beautiful and it was everything that was promised. It seems like we had a fire going the whole time that we were there. Stephen couldn’t have been nicer. He came by one day mid morning to check on us and to restock the area. Had a very nice conversation. He was genuinely interested in our trip and wanted to make sure that we had a great time. At the same time while we had a full and complete conversation with him, he didn’t stay too long nor did we feel that his visit was ever unwelcome. We’ll definitely be back.

Really great campsite and having wood included was an extra plus! Stephen was very kind and showed us exactly where to go upon arrival as we got in a little late. The other reviewers are correct as long as you have AWD (or 4WD), you’ll have no problem heading up the hill to camp. Loved the firepit area - it was just my boyfriend and I, but would be really nice for a group of people sitting around the fire. We chose tenting in the dry, dirt area so if you plan to do that instead of the grass, make sure you have some padding as it’s very rocky. Pit toilet area was well maintained too. Would definitely visit again!

We loved the space, it's secluded and private in a beautiful, serene clearing. The fireplace is large and everything is set up for a nice bbq session. The surroundings are worth visiting, there are great trails for hiking and biking, a winery and great shops for fresh groceries. A lot of things we didn't have time to explore, so we'll be back.

Wow! This hipcamp was an absolute gem, completely private and secluded. The weather was a little wet but the host made sure we had enough firewood to last us our stay. I would recommend having AWD if it is wet as the hill to the site is rocky and a bit muddy but we had no problem in our Forester.

Brendan's land is beautiful. If you're looking to enjoy nature, the beauty of the animals that live among it and Brendan's working farm, this is the place!!! His goats and chickens were a short walk away and worth the smiles they provide. The views of the pastures and mountains were a great backdrop for the end of one day and start of another and if you're looking for walks or hikes, there is plenty of land and numerous trails within 10 minute drive.
Brendan was very accommodating and very welcoming. The bathroom he provides on the property was also appreciated, nothing like a nice shower after a full day of activities. This was one of the best experiences..... definitely going back!!!
