Nearly any outdoor opportunity can be found around Tonopah, so pack the RV with all your gear.
Located about halfway between Las Vegas and Reno, Tonopah is a small town with a mining history in the Nevada desert. RVers may find themselves driving through on their way west to Mono Lake, Yosemite National Park, or Kings Canyon National Park, or perhaps heading south to Death Valley National Park. North of Tonopah, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offers fishing, hiking, biking, and off-roading opportunities, as well as cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Also nearby (relatively speaking) is Walker Lake Recreation Area, where you can enjoy boating, birdwatching, water sports, and dry camping. The lonely stretches of Highways 6 and 95 offer a few RV parks, typically with hookups but not necessarily other amenities. The weather in Tonopah varies by season with hot, dry summers and cold winters with overnight temps below freezing. Don’t miss a chance to stargaze without any city lights.
