SPRING/SUMMER/FALL: Spend the afternoon at the Trestle Creek on the eastern shore of Lake Pend Oreille, only two miles down the road (just off Highway 200), where you can launch your boat, swim at the beach, or paddle along the shore in your kayak or SUP. Or, take an adventurous backcountry drive up Trestle Creek Road into the mountains of the Kaniksu National Forest where you can check out Lunch Peak Lookout, hike miles of pristine trails to one of the three nearby mountain lakes, explore several waterfalls, or drive the entire 35 mile backcountry loop down to the town of Clark Fork. If quiet rest is what you seek, find a secluded spot next to one of creeks where you can hang a hammock and listen for that still small voice. On-site trailer parking adjacent to the road is available. If skiing is your thing, Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort is an easy (and gorgeous) 45 minute commute. Don't tell anyone, but Schweitzer Mountain is an absolute gem of a ski resort with 2,900 acres of gorgeous skiing terrain (and epic views) for all ages and skill levels. Our family spends a good bit of time skiing here. Winter Driveway Access: a 4-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicle is required to climb our driveway during winter conditions. OUR STORY: We (Tim and Molly) spent 14 years raising our young family in the desert heat of north Phoenix. Every summer we went dispersed camping as many weekends as possible with our four (now five) children in the backcountry mountain ranges of northern Arizona. We watched our family grow stronger together and sibling relationships flourish as the mental and emotional grime of the city grind was slowly washed from our souls during idle morning hangouts, afternoon hiking adventures and evening stories and laughs around the campfire. We had a particularly amazing mountaintop experience in 2014 backcountry camping over Labor Day Weekend where we felt a strong calling to share with others the blessings we were experiencing. Our hearts were impressed with a desire to host a place in the "wilderness" where people and families could escape and unwind from the noise and pace of city life for a few days and maybe even have a mountaintop experience of their own. After several years of waiting for the right timing, we started exploring and found this place in January 2019. By April we had sold our home in Phoenix and moved our family 2,000 miles north to this 27 acre property on a mountain of Hope. We named it Maverick Mountain Home, which captures our love of the wilderness, our mission to care for the lost, and our desire to be unbranded by the world. Upon landing here we immediately got to work preparing. We've spent the last five years working on hundreds of different projects, including: rehabilitating our driveway, beginning a long-term whole-house remodel, building a chicken coop, maintaining our driveway, fencing in a new orchard, chicken yard, and pig yard, planting trees, replacing a spring house, maintaining our driveway, installing underground infrastructure for future guest facilities, clearing trails, milling lumber, and maintaining our driveway. In 2024 we dedicated a good portion of April and May to preparing our first HipCamp site, Living Water, which went live on our wedding anniversary at the end of May. We added our second site, Boondock Butte in July with plans for several more sites in coming years. Since the first booking on our opening weekend we've watched as that line from "Field of Dreams" came true in our "backyard" - we built it and they started coming. The campsite was very private, large, mostly level and lovely. The dogs were very sweet. My family enjoyed our stay just at the campsite. We took a trip into Sandpoint and ate a great restaurant, I think it was called Jalepenos. The flower farm portion looked beautiful just from the fence. As we were leaving the owner told us how their upick flower farm works. We had the best time exploring all the rows and rows of flowers to fill out cup. There were still many beautiful flowers for us in mid-September. We all really enjoyed our stay.

We loved our stay at the farm! The tent was private in the woods and we came up to the farm’s shop for fresh ice cream and fresh eggs and also paid extra to help milk a cow haha our daughter loved the cows! The zipper didn’t work on the tent but otherwise everything was so lovely. We used the cook stove and they had some cook supplies in there too which was super nice. Would definitely recommend , I always wanted to try out glamping and the whole family had a lot of fun with it.

Shayne and Ryder are great people! Very friendly and they made sure that we had everything we needed when we checked in. Shayne even took our son to feed the horses and play with the goats while we unloaded our stuff. The Airstream was comfy and clean and Ryder made sure we knew how to work everything. It's very close to a couple different parks on the lake for swimming, fishing, etc. We'd definitely stay with them again!

Great little secluded area! The host was very accommodating last minute, and very responsive. The site was clean, and we were offered fire wood for purchase. It was too hot to use but was a nice touch. We also had some leveling items at the site ready for us on arrival. Would recommend!

Fantastic Northern Idaho Farm with all the farm amenities (chickens, pigs, ducks, horses, cattle, a stream for the kids to play in, flat grassy area with 30amp and water to park, plenty of space to back in) and great hosts - EXTREMELY FAST reply to any question. . Proximity to hiking, gravel/mountain bike (lots of vertical or level riding in Wildlife f refuge) , beautiful forests, bird watching, wildlife sighting. The previously mentioned “trains” were definitely NOT an issue for us. Because I had read about the trains I initially paid attention; we got the 5pm Friday heard 3 trains before we went to bed at 10 heard 3 trains that night (10pm - 6am) and 1 train Saturday night. There could have been more but I slept through their passing. We slept with the windows open no fan. Quite frankly being from Northern Idaho we enjoyed the “clicking clack” .I highly recommend Lions Den Ranch for camping.

We loved the experience here. It's in the mountains, right next to a creek, while still being close to town if you want to go shopping or anything. It was quiet and private, even with being on the host's driveway there's very little visibility or sounds between the two campsites and the host's home. Would come here again! There are a lot of nearby hikes and lakes with swimming and paddle boarding options, though I would recommend a good four wheel drive smaller vehicle if you want to drive up the mountain to hikes. We did Gem lake and it was an hour in our truck from the campsite even though only 15 miles away. Also not a rocky lake, pretty, but not super swim friendly. Lots of huckleberries though! In late August there weren't even bugs here! Boondock Butte site was pretty full with our camper and truck, but you could hang a hammock nearby if desired and still room for tables and a fire and such outside. They provide a good amount of firewood and a bear box!
