I loved the openness, hiking trails available, adjacent to public land. The skies were clear & allowed the billions of stars to shine. Chris cares for his campers & wants to ensure them a wonderful experience.

Sportsman's Retreat was perfect for us! Tucked away from the crowds but still right next to downtown Gardiner. There are 2 asphalt paved spaces available with full hookups. I use a 30 amp service but I believe 50 amp plug was there too. Very clean setup with grass behind the pad, picnic bench and a large fenced grass pet area. An Elk cow met us each morning like she was the neighborhood pet, but try to approach her. They are wild animals and unpredictable. Especially if her calf is nearby. Also Grizzly bears at times. DO NOT let your pet wander unleashed or leave food or trash outside. We loved our stay there and highly recommend it.

We loved our short stay in Gardiner at Danielle's property. It is within walking distance of downtown and has water, an RV dump and electricity. The elk on the street and the fenced in dog area were awesome!

This was the perfect spot to explore Yellowstone National Park from; it's minutes from the North Entrance! It's on a quiet street with the only noise being from the neighbourhood elk calling to one another! The owners were friendly and easy-going with helpful suggestions. It's a nice, paved, full hookup place to park your rig, with a picnic table. The main streets of Gardiner are walkable as well. Very affordable for the area too!

Awesome place with plenty of room, Roger was awesome! We stayed at site 1 which wasn’t directly on the river but it was a short trail to the river and you had your own private beach. I actually drove my truck down the trail and made it to the beach. 100% recommend.

Awesome little spot with Elk right outside mostly every night, amazing sounds to fall asleep to. Nice paved spot with full hookups just 2-3 minutes from the North entrance of Yellowstone! Super friendly hosts too. Gardiner is a sweet little town.

What a beautiful location! A little bit of a drive north from I-90, but well worth it. Wonderful sunsets and all the stars! Chris was very friendly and a great host. The campsite was a good size. The portapotty and garbage were easy to get to. Ground was easy to stake a tent. We saw several deer, osprey, bats and pelicans. Would definitely stay here again!

This spot was a good overnight location for us and provided a spectacular Montana sunset. We did have to drive about a mile on a dirt road, which was no problem for me, but a little concerning for my glamper husband:) You can hear trains passing by and the site is near a shooting range-not an issue after dark, but a little noisy during the daylight hours. Host was friendly and helpful.

It was an amazing time and experience at Chris’s property! A perfect getaway and I would highly recommend it for the solo traveler great for families looking to camp in Montana. I explored the hill side lots of deer and wildlife activity. 10/10

We loved the spot. We called Roger when we were 15 min away so he could come lead us to a very private piece of the property. Right on the Gallatin River with a fire pit and all the space in the world. There was a Golden Eagle hanging out in a tree and a rattlesnake skin 10 ft from our RV. It's 30ish minutes from Bozeman and even less to the airport. We met Roger and his wife briefly. They we're very easy to communicate with and easily earn a 10/10. We'll be back!

The space is absolutely beautiful and very private. There is a ton of space between the campsites. Roger was communicative and welcoming. There is a firepit, which we didn’t use, but it was great. It is right on the river, so don’t forget the bug spray

Where to go
Yellowstone River
The Yellowstone River flows right through town and offers excellent fishing and whitewater without straying far. Go south towards the park and places like Yankee Jim Canyon have wild rapids or go toward Big Timber where the river broadens but the fishing remains excellent.
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is on the wish list for many Livingston visitors and it’s a short drive at roughly one hour to the park entrance. You can camp outside the park and day trip or use Livingston as a jumping off point for a longer journey through the park.
Paradise Valley
Livingston sits at the north end of the Paradise Valley which essentially includes everything between town and the park entrance. Gardiner, Emigrant, and Pray are all amazing small towns to visit and the valley itself is bordered by public lands with camping, hiking and biking trails.
Chico Hot Springs
After camping and exploring the great outdoors, take a trip to Chico Hot Springs, where natural springs have been developed into hot pools at a quaint resort. If camp food has you looking for a break, they also have an amazing restaurant.
When to go
If there’s one thing reliable in Livingston, it’s the wind. Winter and spring are especially wind prone, so campers gravitate toward summer and fall for more comfortable weather conditions, consistent fishing, and warmer temperatures for hiking and mountain biking. That said, there are plenty of mellow winter days, when exploring the valley and greater Yellowstone region can lead to increased wildlife sightings and unique experiences. Snowmobiles make winter exploring a complete rush—or you can opt for quieter methods of travel with snowshoes or skis.
