Located at the confluence of the Meramec River and Labarque Creek, my place (Matt's Place) is a ridge above a bottomland bowl of sorts.
The old iron truss bridge here is likely built in 1910 and it has a survey marker from 1932.
The creek has a nice little swimming hole, and a beach that is sometimes sand, sometimes, gravel, and sometimes a mix of both with some silt or even mud after a storm. It's peaceful down there to explore in the creek, wade while looking outward to an opening into the Meramec River. It's also fun to stand just at the mouth of the creek in the Meramec River. It's an awesome view upstream or downstream of tree lined banks, rock bluffs, and every now and then, passing boats, canoes, paddle boards, or kayaks. The old iron truss bridge hovers above the meeting of two waters. The water is cool and clean. Some fifty species of fish have been recorded in this creek, the most in all of Jefferson County and St Louis County. The bottomland has two levels, the lower bottoms down by the creek and the upper bottoms about a hundred feet from the creek. The upper bottoms has a clearing like a meadow with mowed grass.
My favorite things to do here include gazing up at a cottonwood tree that must be sixty feet tall. It's leaves in a breeze are like a thousand hands waving hello. The bottomland meadow offers just enough sky to see bats dance in the dusk air between the trees, then fireflies as it gets darker yet. Up top is where I live.
Just five miles off HWY 44 and HWY 109, at Eureka, MO, (30 minutes west of downtown St Louis, 18 minutes from Six Flags) this place sits on a ridge with great views above the Meramec River.

The farm and staff are absolutely fantastic! We had an issue with charges, which they resolved with some investment of time on their part. They all I’ve and beyond in service. Helping us find our site in the dark, making sure we had enough supplies and even throwing a pair of jeans in the dryer for our teenager 😁

Matt is a wonderful host. We stayed in his cabin and had a great evening in front of the fire listening to the sounds of the river. Matt can provide extras to enhance your stay - we had coffee and toast and jam in the morning. Everything was perfect- Matt is very responsive, thoughtful and kind. I loved the new outhouse!

We had a great time staying at Watkin's Place. The home and location were exactly what we were looking for. The home is isolated and feels remote even though it is only a short drive to Hardin. Plenty of hot water and full kitchen made our stay comfortable and a step up from tent camping but we still had the "out in nature" experience. Our dogs loved it as well. Hiking took us through open fields and forest sheltered paths. Watkins Place was clean and stocked with the necessities, including linens and basic cooking supplies. If you are looking for a cross between roughing it and glamping, Watkins Place is exactly the right fit.

We just came back from our second trip to Hummingbird Hollow Outdoors, and once again it felt absolutely magical. ✨
As a single mama of four, camping can sometimes feel overwhelming, but renting the yurt made it so much easier — and honestly, it turned into something even more special. The land itself is breathtaking, and the experience of being surrounded by animals roaming freely, sweet and friendly, made it unforgettable for my kids. They were in heaven, completely obsessed with every animal they met.

Clean, well stocked, and private. Exactly what we needed to get away from this realtor’s crazy work life. Location is spot on for spending the day in nearby cities and enjoying quiet evenings in. The perfect solution to those who would prefer an upscale feel in a perceived camping environment. The only thing we would change would be sturdier chairs around the camp fire. Although, we did have a good laugh.

Host is nice, thoughtful, excellent communication, beautiful property with happy animals. Brought us Uno while we enjoyed the sound of rain on the yurt- for which she had everything we could need. Enjoyed the creek and walking the peaceful trails. Thanks for a great stay!

We got 2 glamping tents for a 15th birthday- 3 kids, 1 adult, 2 dogs. All enjoyed the stay. Nice pond. Comfy beds. Elizabeth works hard to provide and ensure you have what you need. Farm animals are always lovely to see and be around. Nice patch of property to explore on foot. Shared kitchen area a nice touch (for our ice-cream cake and meals).

My rock loving son and I spent the night here and my only complaint is we didn’t plan to stay longer! Everything about this peaceful and beautiful land is amazing. We stayed in one of the furnished yurt style tents and it was gorgeous and had so many nice details like fairy lights and a fan!
The hosts Elizabeth and Mark really went out of their way to make our stay incredible. My son is an avid rock collector and Mark showed him all sorts of rocks from his collection and even cut a few of the ones we collected.
It was hot outside but we still slept well with the fans in our tent. The outdoor kitchen had everything we needed and the compost toilets and the showers were clean with great warm water. We started our morning by relaxing in the awesome hammocks by the pond and then visiting all the farm animal's.
This is a must visit place for anyone who loves rocks or is seeking a family friendly place to enjoy the outdoors. We are already looking forward to our next trip back!

5 nights at The Magic Land Homestead
What a wonderful homebase for a beautiful retreat away from the hussle and bussle of city life! I went in most excited for the indoor swing, which was as spectacular as expected, but everything else on the site was so comforting and it was so easy to feel at home. Hearing the roosters every morning was such a fun way to feel connected to nature as soon as the sun came up. If you're looking for true rest and relaxation, while being in the middle of tons of trails, river spots, and natural oasis' - this is your place! Laura was so helpful and accommodating of our needs, and easy to contact even with the low cell service (which was a wonderful way to 100% disconnect from it all). We can't wait to come back again someday, any spot on the Magic Land seems to be recipe for a great time. :)

This place was magical! We had so much fun and loved all the animals and beautiful nature. Creek was an added bonus. It was great to be able to pack lightly as we had so much already there. Highly recommend!

Group trip
We had an great time in the Sir Quincy Yurt. It was well appointed with an update of an extension cord which was much appreciated with the fan for this super hot weather. The yurt was clean and had everything we needed. Two moms and two daughters stayed comfortably. The animals were all very docile and fun to be around. We were close enough to town to take advantage of a great ice cream stand and some interesting antique shops too.
