The main floor of the home is occupied by the owner. Accommodations are available on the second floor of the house, in the cottage, and on the grounds. The upstairs second floor of the home has its own access and is separate from the rest of the house. Three private bedrooms share bathrooms and a porch/living room with a fabulous view. Completely renovated in 2023. This included adding a shared kitchenette, remodeling each bedroom, the bathroom and adding a powder room. Across the deck is the cottage. My husband and I really enjoyed camping on John's land. Everything that you need is already there, set up ready to go. The place was very peaceful and quiet. Both of our dogs were able to run around the property and enjoy it just as much as we did. I would definitely plan another stay here.

What an incredible place. So peaceful, so secluded, exactly what we were hoping for. We only stayed one night for this trip, and we all wished we could have stayed longer so we will definitely be planning a longer stay in the future.
The bed was very comfortable, I always worry about that when staying at places away from home. We did have to relocate a few 8-legged friends from inside the yurt when we first arrived, but they didn’t put up too much of a fight.
We got rain during the night, and my new favorite thing is sleeping in a yurt while it’s raining. It was heaven. I love how the yurt is nestled under pines, it’s such a good spot.

Christopher’s spot worked perfectly for us. My husband and I drove our motorhome three hours hours to Grand Rapids to listen to Doug Tallamy (Author of Nature’s Best Hope and founder of Homegrown National Park) at the Sherman Street Church just 12 minutes away. When we arrived at Michigan Cherry Tree it was as simple as pulling into the driveway. The spot was perfectly level and Chris had the extension cord ready for us to plug in to. We joined hanging around the fire pit for a bit before heading to bed. Slept well and arose the next morning to enjoy time hanging out in the beautifully planted yard with all the flowers, hummingbird, butterflies, bees and other pollinators. We will definitely stay again next time we visit Grand Rapids.

The shower, kitchen, and outhouse were much appreciated- I really loved how well maintained and clean the outhouse was! I had a wonderful time at Chris's for the weekend! He has a beautiful garden with great decorations, and the perfect spot for relaxing while still being right there on the city. I was attending an event at Devos Place, and I couldn't have asked for a better location.
That being said, it is a camp in a city - there are neighbors, and a lively business next door. Things definitely quiet down after sunset and the nights were very peaceful. A little noise doesn't bother me, but it is something to be aware of when you book.
The wildlife abounds - I saw butterflies, squirrels, honeybees, and even one very calm skunk that wandered through late one night!
The restroom is simple (camp bucket toilet) but works just fine. Chris provided everything that I needed during my stay, including fresh drinking water when I arrived. There was a nice patio table to have my meals at, which got lovely evening shade.
Chris is incredibly welcoming and kind, and I felt very safe during my stay. He gave easy to follow directions to find the place, and even recommended local eateries, a coffee shop, and some other things I might enjoy. I highly recommend this spot for a great landing spot while you adventure in and and Grand Rapids!

Weekend Trip to Nature’s Refuge
We had such a wonderful stay at John’s glamping yurt! John was an incredibly kind and helpful host—he made us feel welcome right away and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The campsite itself is peaceful and private, surrounded by beautiful grounds that made it easy to relax and unwind.
The setup is fantastic: everything is thoughtfully laid out, from the cozy yurt and outdoor shower to the well-equipped cooking area with a grill, stove, tables, and a great firepit for evenings by the fire. Awesome for our dog, too!! We also had a blast playing cornhole—such a fun touch!
We’re so glad we found this spot and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a private, relaxing, nature-filled getaway with great amenities and an amazing host. Thanks again, John!

Great weekend at Mike’s place. We appreciated the privacy and beauty of the lot as well as the fire pit and dry firewood. We had a fire every evening. Shopping is close by as is Saugatuck Dunes State Park for hiking. There is a nice bike trail we unfortunately did not get too. Checkout out Pennyroyal Cafe for good food. We definitely recommend his place.
