Tails and Trails Farm is a gorgeous property that sits on 80 acres at the edge of the Irish Hills. We offer a place of healing and support for humans and animals through nature, music, and interaction. Many of our animals are rescues and we use them in a variety of therapies in an effort of healing for human an animal alike. We offer horseback riding lessons, pony rides. Come and enjoy our farm! Tails and Trails is a small family-owned horse farm in the Irish Hills of southeastern Michigan.
Our campsite sits in the middle of 30 acres of private woods. There is a fire ring with room for seating and a separate area to place your tent directly adjacent. There is also another sitting area and plenty of options to hang hammocks. The site is about a 10 minute or .5 mile walk through a beautiful wooded trail from the parking area.
We also offer scheduled horseback trail rides across our 82 acres, for people of all ages. (If you have small children please specify so we can discuss options.) Please send us a message if you are interested to inquire about availability or if there are any questions we can answer.
In addition to the many full-size horses, we also have several miniature horses, miniature donkeys, chickens, 5 dogs, barn cats, and a pot-belly pig. All of which love attention from humans of all ages.
We are a 420 friendly property as cannabis is legal in Michigan. There are 5 dispensaries in Adrian offering both Recreational and Medical cannabis products for sale. If you would like help or advice about the local market please just ask.
This is a pack it in, pack it out campsite. The closest source of potable water is in the barn or about a ten-minute walk from the site.
This is a perfect social distancing campsite however you are still only a 10-minute drive to the nearest grocery store and 20 minutes from some great swimming lakes, kayaking, and small-town allure in the Irish Hills area.
Ann Arbor is also only a 45-minute drive and has a bounty to offer anyone. We are very familiar with the city and can offer advice or suggestions if you'd like. There is a kayak rental in Tecumseh which is about 15 minutes away where you can do an entire river loop and return to the same place thus requiring only one vehicle.
There are also several close lakes where you can drop your own kayak in and explore. If you’d like some more amenities then Walter Hayes State Park or Lake Hudson State Park are both about a 20-minute drive.
We have trails throughout the woods and along with our fields for exploring. We welcome guests to wander and enjoy the property while respecting nature and all the things that live here. The area is alive with animals and creatures of all types. Families of deer and turkey call the farm home and don’t be surprised to hear a coyote howl at night. With natural water sources and different types of topography, we are blessed to have a variety of wildlife at our farm.
We keep to ourselves however are more than happy to accommodate reasonable requests and appreciate others getting to enjoy the beauty and serenity the country can offer.

Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way).
We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option.
We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy.
We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs.
There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it.
At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

We loved our stay at this sweet farm. Sandra was so kind and helpful- as was her husband and the woman helping on the farm. The bell tent site was very peaceful with a lovely view of the meadow and tree line. We enjoyed an awesome fire at night…. and loved the presence of horses behind us in the paddock. The tent, covered kitchen area and bathroom are well thought out and so cute! We didn’t use the shower, but it was amazing that it was even an option!! The composting/cassette toilet was very much appreciated and running water to wash hands too! The kitchen area was nice in case of rain. We kept our cooler under there and appreciated the thoughtful items available to use. This was amazing glamping with true connection to nature. We hope to be back!

We loved camping here on Sandra's land! The view was gorgeous and the horses were very friendly the morning we were getting ready to go! The only thing that I would change for next time was the bed because the matress would fall in. Other than that, everything was great! Would definitely reccomend.

Everything about this experience was EXACTLY what I needed. Sandra has alot of love for this land and all its natural inhabitants and the balance is something we dont realize in our everyday hustle and bustle of life! The bell tent was furnished with a VERY comfortable bed, pillows and linens. It smelled really nice when I got there! The bathhouse was beautifully constructed (warm shower!). There are some beautifully spirited horses on the property who will sometimes come check on you while they are grazing. And the hammock under the tree was amazing! A nice breeze put me to sleep in that hammock for 2 hours! Anyway,
Everything was explained and set up just as detailed and I didnt have to call on her for anything! It was such a great experience and I will definitely be coming back!

We took a weekend trip for our anniversary and had a great time just relaxing. The horse grazing in the background was so neat! The deer and turkeys coming out in the field were pretty cool also. We hiked a couple trails around the property. Sandra and her hubby were both very nice and accommodating. I can't recommend them enough. Thank you both so much.

Sandra was fantastic! Her space was absolutely beautiful and she set us up with everything we needed. As her first stay, she was still setting up the kitchen area, but the tent and bathhouse was stocked and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A few thunderstorms occurred while we stayed and did not have any issues with water leaking or wetness inside the tent. Our dogs loved running around and having space to explore. It was so nice waking up and sitting in the deck watching the turkeys and horses. We will most definitely be back when visiting family.

The entire farm is beautiful. All of the animals there are so friendly, and they all look so happy and healthy. You can tell how much this family loves their animals and how hard they work to care for them. Even though I booked last minute, Kristen did everything she could to make sure that my kiddo got to do the mini horses meet and greet and also the horse riding lesson. Kristen went above and beyond for us. Also, I have never had such a private camping experience before. We did the walk-to site. It was completely secluded from anyone else. There were trails that we could walk through in the beautiful forest on their land. We saw deer, heard coyotes at night occasionally, as well as owls, and other animals. With the walk-to site, although it is a 7 to 10 minute walk to the actual site, we brought a big wagon along with us, and we were able to easily pull it through the trail to bring everything easily to our campsite. There was lots of space at the campsite for all of our stuff. One thing I wasn't expecting on this trip was to become besties with a brown donkey named Mocha. All the donkeys, dogs, and mini-horses were all about getting pets and itchins from everyone. This was an unforgettable adventure for us girls. I know we made memories there that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much Kristen and family for all you do.

I had an incredibly relaxing time camping at the walk to site. It was the perfect distance to be able to make multiple trips, if needed. There were many trails to wander and the smell of the wild roses is indescribable. The hosts were very welcoming and hospitable. I asked them to bring some firewood to the site for me and had I not, I wouldn’t have seen them at my campsite. It was perfectly private. I reached out for a couple local recommendations and they did not disappoint. I had a one hour riding lesson with Kirsten. It was not my first time riding but I learned a lot. I would stay again in a heartbeat. The hardest part was leaving. Or maybe leaving without one of their dogs!!
