The property has trails through a hardwood forest of maples, beeches and cherry trees. There is also an open meadow that boasts an abundance of wildlife. The property is secluded on a deadend two-track less than two miles from US-131 between Kalkaska and Mancelona. Torch Lake is only a 20-minute drive and Traverse City is about 50 minutes away. There is a clean porta-potty and water can be provided on request. Also, a 4-person tent can be provided at an additional cost. The campsite has a fire ring, shovel and plenty of wood for late night fires. The Raven's Nest is a cozy 12 x 16 cabin. It is an off-grid experience with a wood stove for winter adventures. Don't just taste island living when you can emerse yourself in the middle of the largest island in Lake Michigan. Beaver Island offers remote experiences unlike any other you can grasp. Explore the trails, inland lakes, and habitat around the island or outside your tent door. The property has multiple trails amongst the maple trees and hemlocks. During the winter, you can attempt to ice skate in the swamp and in the spring you can hear maple sap dripping. The "state bird", mosquito, migrates back in May, but don't be scared off because there is still much to explore before the golden fall takes your breath away. The property is located near 5 miles from Michigan's only International Dark Sky Sanctuary. The property is also 2 miles from the Fox Lake boat launch and 3 miles from Barney's Lake boat launch, two of the islands best fishing holes. Rental includes (as long as it fits): two pair of snowshoes, two kayaks, and a canoe with PFDs. A shared flush toilet and hot shower is a short 2 minute walk into our residence with our family including a quality mouser (cat) that likes to go outside sometimes. A wagon or sled will be provided to make the 2 minute trek to the tent site. Driving to the site will not be permitted or available, especially when the snow flies. We are 1.5 miles from Fresh Air Aviation, 6.0 miles from Island Air, and 6.4 miles from the Beaver Island Boat Company. Please note: planes do not fly when there is inclement weather and the ferry is only seasonal. Be prepared to make plans in case you are not able to fly over or get stuck on island a few extra days. (Yes, this absolutely does happen!) Make sure to check the ferry schedule as well. This rental does not provide transportation. Car and bike rentals are available on island, but make sure to plan ahead especially in the peak season. Cars are permitted on the ferry with advance notice. We can also recommend different "taxi drivers" as Uber and Lyft are a mainland luxury not found on island. Things to note: there is a grocery store and gas station with limited hours. A health center is on island for medical emergencies. The property is a Verizon only location.

The school bus was great! We took our 2 year old on a long trip in Michigan and stayed at multiple 5 star hotels. What was his favorite? The school bus! We enjoyed late night fires and easy slow wake ups! Our son particularly enjoyed opening and closing the bus door manually. In summary, we made fond memories in the school bus!

Unique stay with a lot of character! Was so glad to see a small AC unit since it was 92 out when we got there. Located close to great sights and a fun little brewery. We enjoyed the cozy rope lights and played cards in the ambiance. We slept so hard it was unreal! Loved the privacy of the location but had a couple chicken visitors! Do read the description well - you need to bring your own everything including TP.

My family and I enjoyed staying in John’s bus. Our three kids stayed in the bus and my wife and I slept in our roof top yep adjacent to the bus. We were out in the Charlevoix-Petoskey area for much of the trip but it was nice to be able to come back to the bus after our excursions. Having a bathroom was nice and we enjoyed having the tables, chairs, and fire ring. There was plenty of room for horseshoes and badminton and we had great views of the stars. The road noise from the highway is a little loud at night but we all had a great time.

The schoolie was a great place to call home for a few nights in the heart of Charlevoix. The bus was spacious and there was ton of room to run around. We enjoyed yoga in the lawn in the morning and stargazing at night. Although you could see the road from the picnic benches, not many people drove by. Make sure to bring your own blankets, cookware and dine ware! Otherwise the bus has all of your basic necessities. Make sure to check out Fisherman’s Island for a beach day and Friske’s Farm Market for great pizza and baked goods (+ fresh cherries and berries)

This property is really unique! The bus is simply that: a bus! It has a huge bed, a propane stovetop with oven, a flushable toilet, a dishwashing sink (non-potable water) and an air conditioning unit. The grounds are lovely, open, and off the beaten path. The evenings are quiet and dark, and the days offer comfortable surroundings for reading, play, outdoor cooking (2 grills outdoors,) and all about 2 miles from the beach town of Charlevoix! Highly recommended!!!
