The secured shelter is located atop the ridge on our property. The hiking trail is 0.46 miles long with an elevation gain of 328 feet. I can pack in your gear and provide transport for young children with my ATV.
There is no electricity, but water and an outhouse are available. Inside, you’ll find a wood stove for cold weather and an outdoor fireplace on the porch. The shelter includes two indoor bunks with camping pads provided, along with two hammock hooks on the porch.
The indoor space measures 10x10 feet, with a front porch of the same size. A fire ring with grill and some basic cookware are available—please bring your own utensils. A bear cable is on site for securing food (we do have one known bear in the area).

This site is secluded on a cleared house pad designed for tents, a space for up to three small tents (bring your own). We provide a “toilet room” equipped with a solar fan, solar lights, and hospitality items, including toilet paper, paper towels, a trash can, potty gel (with instructions posted inside), and hand sanitizer. Also we provide a picnic table and fire pit with fire wood and cast iron pans to cook.
You receive a gift bag to take with you!
Enjoy meals at the picnic table beside the fire pit, overlooking the Newmans Ridge!
Occasionally, you may hear the neighbor’s donkey, goats, or other farm animals nearby. Please respect the clearly marked “No Trespassing” areas.
Relax around the fire pit, or take a short trip into our quaint little town; just a 20-minute drive over the mountains for shopping or a cozy coffee stop at the Lovely Iris Café. As of September the new restaurant in town on Main Street has breakfast, lunch and dinner! Nearby, you’ll also find Elrod Falls, a perfect spot to picnic or take a refreshing swim.
At your campsite, a small trail leads down to a seasonal creek when water is flowing.

Currently offering a few spots for a tent up to an RV(max40ft.) There are 50/30/20 amp services as well as a water hookup (no sewer at this time). This spot is on gravel; please do not drive on the grass or dirt/clay. Drive on the gravel only! Driving anywhere other than on gravel during wet conditions can result in you getting stuck. We do not have trash service at this property. Please be sure to take your trash with you. If needed, there is a small dump/convenience center located just down the road at 6783 Hwy 297, Pioneer, TN 37847. Upon arriving, you will have to open the gate to enter the property. BE SURE TO CLOSE THIS GATE WHEN YOU LEAVE.
This area is called Elk Valley, as it is not uncommon to be driving down the road and see elk and deer in the low grass fields! Beautiful area!

***Upon arrival, the 20 amp breaker should be on, and the 30 and 50 amp breakers should be off. Please inspect before plugging in for your own safety. When departing, please be sure to turn off the 30 and/or 50 amp breakers. Leave the 20-amp breaker on at all times, and please make sure the box cover is securely closed when finished.
***There is a building on this property that campers DO NOT have access to. Campers shall not attempt to enter the building.

Weekend Trip to Crystal Mountain Camping Shelter
It was exactly what I was looking for. I did 4 days alone. You park at the house and head up to the site on a dirt road made for a sidekick or off-road golf cart. The views were great, Noone out there but you and nature. Maynard was a gracious host and communicative. Otherwise he left me alone until check out when he came to pick me and my gear up and take me back to my car.
A well built shack, something to be proud of, with enough room comfortably for two. Two that want to camp, but start with shelter vs a tent. Had a little woodburner inside with plenty of wood and two shelf beds. No water, but potted water for cleaning and whatnot. No electricity. The fire and a simple headlamp was all that was needed. The deck had an old cast iron woodburning stove, perfect for when you want to move from the firepit to the deck and chill with a fire or cook on. I cooked over the firepit though. It was the end of Oct. and fall setting in. Got a little chilly, but with the inside burner, it was cozy. It also had a shelf/sink deal on the outside, perfect for washing up, cleaning up and prepping food.
A small and private outhouse style bathroom. Far enough away from the shack and it also had a great view. Lol
My recommendations would be to ensure you bring enough drinking water. I took a 40pack of bottled water for one, for 4 days and it was enough.
Hands down, I will definitely come back. Maybe this time with a friend.

We had a lovely time! Maynard, our host, was very kind and made us feel welcome. Firewood aplenty, running water, and two tables at the site. Very clean and well kept! Bonus points - we didn’t see any ticks after three days, impressive in TN. Our dogs enjoyed romping in the sun near our campsite. We could hear some neighboring hounds at night, and the nearby horses / donkey were sweet. Very quiet throughout the day. Would absolutely visit again!

We picked a HOT weekend but thankfully the campsite is nestled back into the trees. The shade made a noticeable difference in temperature. We were very comfortable despite the heat wave. The site also butts up against a fence line so we were delighted when a group of horses, ponies, goats, and one donkey stopped by to say hi. They were curious but weren’t any trouble. Enjoyed the two nights we were there.

Everything was great! Maynard has great hospitality, he checked in on us a few times as we got set up. Bit of a walk to get large firewood, but it is included so its worth the walk (maybe 100yd if that.). Steep but fun hiking trails right on the property, behind the cabin at the end of the drive. Site was flat and had a great view, it rained our whole visit practically and the ground never flooded. 10/10!

WE LOVED CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN AND PLANNED TO RETURN!! Maynard was very professional and friendly, he gave us helpful camping tips and advice and his hospitality was very welcoming. The views were beautiful and so was the campsite. We have nothing to complain about and we highly recommend the campsite at crystal Mountain. We will be booking very shortly again:)

Very Nice Campsite. Maynard was very professional and gave us tips for our next camping adventure. It was very private and there was plenty of firewood available for us to use. All around I would rate 10/10. Would definitely recommend to anyone camping for one night or one week.
