Weekend Trip to Sonny Hills

I stayed in the cabin and I will absolutely return! Clean, cozy, and perfect for a weekend away. Jennifer was quick to respond and created a welcoming home for my visit. Close location to so many trails and activities. Perfect for one, a couple, or a family! 10/10 and 5 stars!

Jennifer’s cabin is a perfect getaway. It has every amenity you could want! We got some surprise snow during our stay so the fireplace was perfect for our stay along with some games and movies. I can’t wait to come back in the spring and fall to get some use out of the hot tub, grill, and fire pit.

2 nights at Sonny Hills

We had an incredible stay at Sonny Hills-Cabin near Shawnee Forest! The cabin itself was very cozy, very comfortable, and very well equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The location couldn’t have been better, surrounded by gorgeous nature with hiking and sightseeing opportunities on site and even more in the park just a short drive away. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. Their kindness and attention to detail truly made this trip extra special. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer and we’re already looking forward to returning as soon as we can. Highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat near Shawnee Forest! 🌲✨

Weekend Trip to Sonny Hills

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway at Jennifer's cabin. The lovely water with a tree-covered hill to the east was beautiful each day. It was great to have wood provided for the fire pit, the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable, and so were the couches. It was a great place to get away from our busy lives for a weekend. We visited Garden of the Gods and Dixon Spring this time but we hope to come back to explore their wooded property. And the see the doggies :) I appreciated getting myself away from the internet, although we did have good enough cell signal to be able to access the web when needed. I enjoy tent camping but did not have the energy or time for it right now and this was the perfect middle ground between tent camping and being home. I plan to recommend this cabin to my friends too and hope that we can even visit it together the next chance we can get away.

Currently we are restoring our property after the ice storms in January that broke many trees in two, and uprooted trees at the root balls. Due to a very wet Winter, the ground was unstable. The cabin and campsites are unaffected. Please contact us with any questions or concerns. 70 secluded acres adjoining the Shawnee National Forest area with some hiking opportunities, woods and water activities. Close to Garden of the Gods (10 min), RimRock, Pounds Hollow, Belle Smith Springs, Lusk Creek and other trails. We are in the middle of the Shawnee surrounded by trees, our own lake, you can hike around and walk the land in solitude, yet we are only 25 minutes to Harrisburg. The closest grocery/merchandise store is only 5 minutes away. Cabin-2BR -1 Q, 1 K/1BA sleeps 4- possible 5, Completely modernized, with Heating/ac, full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator, coffee pot, grill, laundry, NO INTERNET. Fully equipped Kitchen with all cooking utensils, crock pot, toasters, dual flex brew coffeemaker, plates, silverware, as well as coffee, creamer, sugar, cooking oil, aluminum foil, and condiments. Large great room, with native sandstone fireplace, that has been converted to gas for easy lighting. Back deck has beautiful views of the lake and hills. Enjoy the large front porch that adjoins the back deck and wraps around 3/4 of the cabin. Secluded, private, Fire pit. Free firewood. $115.00 per night for two people, Discount for weekday stay. 2 night minimum. Tent and RV camping sites available. RV pads for self-contained campers. One Electric space available. Our camper is in a small and quiet campground, where you can relax and unwind. You will be surrounded by many kinds of trees, shrubs, flowers and wildlife. Every morning you will wake up listening to birds sing and evenings are frog symphony time. You may also have an unexpected visitor - a squirrel likes to have her favorite breakfast (pig nuts) on the porch. Restaurants, a gas station, Dollar general, Old Country store with delicious ice cream, coffee, homemade jars of jams and more are within one mile driving distance. The Land Between the Lakes offers an Elk and Bison Prairie, many hiking and biking trails, fishing, boat ramps, Turkey Bay off road vehicle trails and more. Enjoy the outdoors, relax and recharge. Take a break from technology, we currently don't offer TV or Wi-Fi. Games are available per request, no additional charge.
