This site is a hidden treasure! We throughly enjoyed our stay over Easter weekend and loved how accommodating the hosts were. Shaylen left some firewood to start us out which was so helpful. Also, we caught a turtle fishing on the lake so that was a huge highlight. Thanks for an amazing stay and can’t wait for next time!

The host John and his wife and 3 totally adorable dogs are wonderful. The facilities are new, clean and well maintained. If you have horses the trails are right there to get into the national park .. a beautiful park!! My son who I was traveling with is partially physically challenged. John has the most advanced trail accessibility equipment available… some electric all terrain and others that are arm strength propelled. He and his wife are also very involved in the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park and volunteer their time there. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Tammy and her husband Richard were such wonderful hosts !! It was such a wonderful experience. The views were absolutely gorgeous. You were at the top of there a little mountain and can see so much even when it is cloudy. Their hospitality and graciousness was amazing. I look forward to being able to return again to see them. They were very down to earth and I love talking with them over hot tea and coffee. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone. The experience was so peaceful and they are two dogs were so loving and gave me great joy.

4 nights at Fluffy Duckling Farm

This Hipcamp was fantastic! I loved it so much that I kept extending my stay! It is situated on top of a mountain and the views are outstanding. You'll hear the donkeys braying occasionally and the cows across the way mooing. It is a lovely, bucolic setting. The hook-ups are situated right next to the horses' and donkeys' pen, which I loved. The horses came up to greet me when I first arrived. I parked my van with my side doors facing the pen so that I (and my dog) could watch them. The other direction faces the hosts' house and two Airbnb cottages with long-term renters, so it's not entirely private, but it was fine as all were quiet and respectful. I can't say enough great things about the hosts, Joe and Cindy. They are such wonderful, kind, generous people. They checked in with me occasionally to make sure everything was okay, including in the middle of a bad storm. One thing to note is that cell service is non-existent after turning off the highway, so it is important to make sure you contact the hosts before then.

The view at Rock Bottom Horse Camp is beautiful. The camp was very peaceful. I was the only person there initially; however, another person did show up a bit later and I was under the impression that he was a "walk-in;" so, if that is the case, it's helpful to know that this camp accepts them. This Hipcamp caters to campers with horses, but will accept non-horse campers, as well. I highly recommend Rock Bottom Horse Camp.

Vehicles can be parked on the 25 ft stretch of grass pad above the campsite, or pulled down the hill onto site at vehicle owners' discretion. Fire pit is on premise and ready for use with a walking trail to the water. Kayaks are available for rental to navigate Cherokee Lake. Trees surround you full of wild rabbits, birds and squirrels. Down at the water about 50 ft from your site you have the availability to fish, wade in the water, Kayak, or sit and watch the ducks, geese, turtles and more. This is a private drive but has four sites so please respect other tenants who have come to enjoy seclusion and serenity during their stay. We are in a rural area about 22 minutes from main town. However, there are restaurants, a Blue Bell ice cream parlor, a grocery store and post office all within 8 minutes. We are 12 minutes from one of the best Disc Golf courses, 25 minutes from Parks/trails/waterfalls, and only about an hour from major tourist sites in Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg/ Knoxville/Bristol Speedway. You will have solitude during your stay but opportunities for communication and aid from the host is available. The site can be busier during holiday breaks as this is off a main road and is on Cherokee lake so noise echos on the water, and there may be other renters checking in other units just a heads up. smokey mountain homestead

I would consider our homestead very mature from the standpoint of organic food production. We have been here 13 years developing the infrastructure. We raise three different kinds of heritage animal breeds as part of our permaculture regime - rabbits, chickens & pigs. I help found the Appalachian Homestead Association where we help teach people to raise their own food on a small homestead and learn what grows well locally. I teach permaculture and we have an extensive permaculture setup. We have large fenced garden using raised beds & low tunnels, as well as a year round greenhouse. We also have large growing spaces outside the fenced garden. We make extensive use of leaves which we collect from our woodland, then shred, then compost and finally filter thru a trommel I designed. We use the fine leaves as part of our soil block mix and larger leaf fragments for mulch. We use the 21 day fast compost method. Our pigs are the American Guinea Hog which is the original homestead pig dating back to the beginning of the US. They are very docile and friendly, small compared to commercial pink pigs. They forage on grass and acorns vs rooting like many other pig breeds. We also free range them. We are members of the American Guinea Hog Association. We recently purchased a bandsaw mill to utilize our woodland to construct additional building on the homestead and are now constructing a solar wood kiln for drying the sawmill output.
