The Light Center is a 95 acre natural sanctuary nestled in a wooded creek valley amidst the farm land of Kansas.
• We have a refinished community barn with two private rooms and a community kitchen, a 30ft Pacific Yurt and lots of great places to camp.
• If you're just driving through or want an 'easy' camping experience with wifi, pitch your tent in the spacious yard around the barn.
• We have lots of places to hike to and several wonderful remote camping spots. Choose from hiking out to camp near the large creek that winds through our land, gathering with friends in a meadow or tucking into a spot in the woods with a beautiful view of the Kansas plains.
• Out here, on a clear night, you can see all of the stars.
We are an organic, sustainable farm providing natural sacred spaces for hiking and camping. We welcome peaceful camping for people with reverence for the land and all beings. We have goats, free-range chickens, guinea hens, dogs and cats. For the safety of our livestock and other guests, we do require visitors to keep their dogs on a leash at all times.
The Light Center is a retreat center serving as a beacon, lighting the way into a vibrant future. We are creating new paths with open hearts. We offer events, celebrations and ceremonies about harmonizing with the earth and inspiring personal, local and global connections. The yurt is set back on a trail that is peaceful, beautiful and quiet, but very near the barn. The barn is a lovely well kept community space with a cozy finished kitchen two bathrooms, large dining space a library. I wish we could've stayed longer to explore the light center. It is a wonderful place with great energy.

We had such a great time at the Redtail yurt and already can’t wait to visit again! Susan was extremely accommodating and had such a beautiful property. Highly recommend! (Probably a smart idea to bring lanterns since the yurt doesn’t have electricity, other than that 10/01)

Staying in the Redtail Yurt was so serene and peaceful. It felt private but was a short walk to the community amenities. There were lovely trails into woods and meadows around the property, and we loved seeing the free range chickens and goats wandering around. The yurt was cozy and had comfy beds with clean bedding. We will definitely be back!

The Light Center was beautiful and welcoming! My friend and I had a delightful and meaningful time meditating, soaking in nature, and sitting around the fire pit talking while our girls played.
The butterflies were amazing, and the fireflies were like nature's rave. We saw a little armadillo buddy too.
The Yurt amenities were well thought out. I took a battery pack for my CPAP. We'll be back!!

Had a great weekend at Red Tail Yurt. The setting is super peaceful and remote, just what I was hoping for. The yurt itself is huge (photos don’t do it justice), with tons of room for a family or group. It has a cozy, glamping vibe — nicer than tent camping but still very connected to nature.
The barn with the kitchen and bathroom is a quick walk away. There’s a composting toilet in the yurt, but I just used the barn.
The host was friendly and very responsive. If you’re going in summer, bring a fan and some batteries. Also plan ahead for cooking — either over the fire or in the barn kitchen. Would definitely stay again.

The Light Center property is absolutely amazing! I was able to chat with Susan, the land owner and felt absolutely at home with her warm welcome. The yurt was perfect for a group of us to stay in. Very private, extremely quiet and so dark at night! There’s a creek to play in and wonderful hiking through natural woods and grass. The community barn is definitely an added bonus! We will be back! ☺️

This is a special place. I felt so warmly welcomed and there was a wonderful comfortable bed made and waiting for us. We built a fire in the fire pit, enjoyed an outdoor meal, walked the maintained trails. We had a nice outing in Lawrence and my partner and I had a lovely restful stay.

Weekend Trip to The Light Center
Lovely and spacious, just what's needed. Enjoyed the grounds, trails, firepit, and the meadow to the west was prefect for viewing stars in solitude. More than enough space for three to sleep comfortably. Susan's quick friendly tour was just enough to orient us, but not intrusive to our time for relaxing. An overall great experience.

We loved everything about this place. Susan was incredibly kind and accommodating. And the farm is incredibly beautiful. We literally booked on the same day and came here so we didn’t know what to expect. I can easily say this was probably the best Hipcamp experience we’ve had. We will definitely return for sure.

Lovely, sacred land with lovely people! Yurt is sturdy and well-maintained. Bear in mind— no electricity or running water in the yurt; this is clearly stated and easily prepped for. The communal space was warm and welcoming. Highly recommend!

The Redtail Yurt was so wonderful, spacious, and warm with the propane heater even in December! Our group enjoyed exploring the hiking trails, spending time around the campfire, cooking in the very well-equipped kitchen, and doing yoga and ritual upstairs in the sacred space of the barn. We only wish we could stay a few more days!!
