This 25 acre parcel was once owned by a sand mining company. There are mounds and valleys all along the Illinois River. We purchased the property in 1987, and cut in the road. The city of Ottawa recently annexed the property into the Ottawa city limits. It's like owning our own wild park.

And then we will be closed for the winter until May first. Unless otherwise specified. Usually closed for the winter months. Sugar Grove Family Fun Center up the road. Goat Yoga and Wholly Bean close by. Local forest preserve has toilets or bring your own porti-john. Bring your horses. Set up a temp spot. We have the space. And there is riding at the forest preserve right around the corner. Camp with your HORSES! We have a swing set and small child play sets. A trampoline. A tire swing. Rancho Del Comienzo is located at the intersection of Somonauk Creek and the Fox River. 150+ years ago, it was a commonly used Native American encampment. Now it is the site of Rancho Del Comienzo Hay and Horses. We ask that if you find an arrowhead that you respect the land and leave it where it lays. Somonauk Creek is a known spawning ground of musky and other Illinois river fish. There is access to both the Fox River and Somonauk Creek for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and other water-activities! This trip was much colder than our typical trips to Katie's land, but we still had such a nice time!

Big rock forest preserve right around the corner. Hiking trails. Allows horses! I’ll allow horses on the farm. Ask me on advance to set something up. Camp with your horses!

I drove down a path, leading to the campsite. There are a lot of deep ruts along the way. Small, low profile vehicles might not make it! My SUV did. It is very secluded, in the woods, next to the Illinois River, only about 100 yards away. I had a great experience. And would do it again.

The site had such great vibes and we enjoyed camping under the stars very much. We arrived late in the dark and Kimberly was so kind to leave out some fire starters and delicious eggs. It was very easy to communicate with her and find our campsite in the dark. I would 100% come back here in a heartbeat if i were to drive cross country again. Thank you Kimberly!!!

Kimberly's place was fantastic for our purposes, and Kimberly was a delight. She helped out with our dog (via Rover) and also helped us with a few things before we got on the road. And she was a pleasure to talk to. Again, the spot itself fit us perfectly. And Kimberly had prepared some things before we arrived, like kindling for the brick firepit as well as a bucket of water, which we used for dishes and such. And there were farm fresh eggs available (at a small station not far from our site) for us in the morning, which was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend stopping here if you're on the road, especially if you've got a pup with you. Our dog had a fun time checking out the goats and playing with Kimberly's dogs while we were out doing a family thing. But we never got to meet Kevin, the farm peacock, which was a bummer! Lol. Thanks, Kimberly!

Great spot little spot tucked back in a wooded area with plenty of space for us to relax. There is also a large field to run around/stretch our legs. The host, Katie, was very accommodating and met us beforehand to show us exactly where to go. Only downside is the proximity to the train tracks, which woke us up a few times in the night. Otherwise, fantastic spot and would stay again!

This is our most wooded spot. There is a narrow walk to camp site set up. No car access direct at site. Not a heavy walk. Areas to park within reasonable walking distance. This spot is great if you want the most secluded option. This is the first camp spot as you enter the gravel drive. On the right.

The camping spot was charming and Katie was very friendly! Gave me a full tour upon check in and was very accommodating to my check in time. The spot has trains that pass through often (I didn’t mind) and you can hear children playing sports across the way occasionally but overall the spot is pretty secluded. my dog loved exploring the creek. would come again.

Katie's land is beautiful. The camp site has a lot of trees and it is right next to the beautiful river. It is an very exclusive site with a lot of privacy. We have an off-road vechicle and it is easy to get through to the site. Truly love it there.

We really enjoyed camping here! Spot B is relatively secluded. There was shade around the edges and open sky in the middle. It has a nice fire ring and a comfortable amount of space. Kimberly provided a bucket of water and a bundle of fire wood, which we really appreciated. We were able to find plenty of smaller pieces on the ground, as well. We’re looking forward to cooking up the fresh eggs we got. Would definitely camp here again!

Nice camping spot, only one hour away from Chicago yet gorgeous countryside. Kimberley is very responsive and she tries her best to accomodate her guests. She provided a fire starter pack and a dozen of fresh eggs. Those eggs are better than anything you can get from store. Camp site is very clean. Overall I really enjoyed my stay there.
