We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice.
We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. It can rain hard at times so having a good rain jacket is a great idea. On the other hand, people say that a sunny day on the east side of the big island is the best place to be in all of Hawaii.

This place was amazing!! I wish I could have stayed longer. The view was unbelievable, it stretched out for so long and was just stunning. The stars and the sound of the frogs at night were so beautiful and soothed us to sleep.
The site itself was very well maintained, with a mosquito net that kept out bugs and made the bed feel extra cozy. The bathroom is a little bit of a walk, but well worth it for the convenience of a clean toilet and sink and a hot outdoor shower! There was even a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker!
This site is in a great location and felt super secure, with two gates to get onto the property and latches on the doors. It’s just a few minutes away from some super cute cafes and shops, and Akaka falls is also nearby. We were also delighted to see the resident donkeys and cats :). Overall, this place is incredible and I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a place close to Hilo!

Wow! Easily the best hipcamp I have been to. Directions provided were easy to follow, even after sunset. The accomodation was so cozy and the view was amazing. The outdoor shower and shared bathroom area was so cute and clean! It was amazing to have a hot outdoor shower at night and stare at the stars at the same time. I also loved all the animals we saw in the area, including but not limited to cats and donkeys on-site.

5 nights at Hamakua Guesthouse
Hamakua House gave us a very genuine feeling taste of the Hawaiian aloha experience. I'm not going to lie, it started tough, as we arrived to our Cabana just as the skies opened with a torment of wind and rain, which quickly made it clear that the aging tent enclosure system for our Cabana could no longer keep the elements out. However, this dismaying set of circumstances was greeted by immediate, kind and resourceful response from the managers on staff, with special thanks to Lisa and Morgan who really took us under their wing. The following 5 days we spent using Hamakua House as our base filled with fun adventures, many of them sparked from conversation and recommendations from among staff and fellow guests. The community at this place is so beautiful: a lovely aura of sharing food and stories, along with vulnerabilities and magic. I'm very appreciative to the owner for providing the affordable and to my mind far superior way of experiencing Hawaii through glamping as opposed to some disconnected condo. Mahalo to Hamakua House for sharing the Breath of God with us.

The drive back to the Hamakua Guesthouse was unexpected, and amazing all at the same time. You are transported through a lush jungle road, complete with hanging vines and a forest canopy overhead. Once on the property, the cabana was clean and ready for our stay. Complete with a cooler, lockbox, pillows and plenty of blankets. The guesthouse itself was accessible for the most part. Part of the outside was under construction, so we had to go around the house to find the proper entrance. The bathrooms themselves left a little to be desired (being that there are only two on the property. Especially since there were so many campers. However, that doesn't detract from the experience that was provided. 100% would recommend, and go here again! Thanks for the amazing stay!

The Cabana had soft white solar lighting. Loved that. The people were amazing. Caroline and Lisa are super helpful. And incredibly welcoming. I booked a bunch of places to stay on the island and this one has been the friendliest. Great amenities. Swam in the Beautiful waterfall. Wouldn't change a thing.

Weekend Trip to Hamakua Guesthouse
We really enjoyed this hip camp and the stay was fun and luxurious. The host and manager Acacia was very friendly and helpful and she even took the time to learn our names. Also there were many kitties that lived on the property and a particular cat named Mr. Cuddles was friendly and he visited us often at Cabana number 3 where we stayed. The Cabanas themselves were so much fun and the hammocks were very comfortable with good pillows and warm blankets.

we loved our hammock cabana stay here! it was very peaceful, the shared spaces were great, everyone was friendly, and there were amazing views from all around the property. the walk into town took about 20 minutes and we had the BEST breakfast and coffee from The Hive!

We absolutely loved staying at Hale lo! We arrived at night so the property was very dark, enough to have really good stargazing. Looking for the cabin in the dark was an adventure in itself! As we were walking around, the coquis were singing and we could hear the river running next to our cabin once we found it. The beds were comfy. My son especially loved sleeping in the loft bed! The waterfall is stunning and we wished we had time to spend a few days and explore the land a bit more!

We loved Krystle's IO's Nest! It was comfortable, adorable, and atop a hill with spectacular views of the hillside looking down to the ocean from the spacious deck. The sunrise was incredible! The private outdoor shower was amazing and had mood lights, soap/shampoo, and flowers peaking under the bottom of the walls. It was an easy 20 minute walk to Akaka Falls, and there was a fruit stand just outside the first gate where we bought star fruit and coconut from the neighbor. The place was easy to find, and Krystle was an excellent host. She answered all our questions promptly, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The Nest had electricity, cell service, wifi, an electric kettle and tea, coffee maker with coffee and filters, and a large charging station with USB and AC outlets. There was also a covered parking area right next to the Nest for our motorcycles. We would definitely stay here again!

This is our second time at Hamakua House (last time 8 years ago) - we love the vibe and the caretakers are really nice and generous. A bit rustic, as expected for hammock cabanas, but very cute. The pros: affordable, beautiful area, nice glamping cabanas, well set up for cooking (big bbqs!), coolers and towels to take to the beach, picking fresh lillikoi in the morning, overall a really lovely stay.
The cons: the shared space vibe was a little strange because they were overstaffed with volunteers, so it felt a bit like a youth hostel. It made it feel like guests were intruding on the volunteer hostel vibe and often the kitchen was occupied.

We loved the staying at Krystle’s lookout nest. It has an amazing view and has everything and a lot of details. Would totally come back or recommend to friends.
