We are a commercial orchid farm starting the homestead 8 years ago. Lava caused us to evacuate 2 years ago before it stopped a mile above the farm and Malama Market. We have a lava tube on the property you can explore. It’s so tall in some places, you can drive a school bus through. Good to bring headlamps if you're interested in this and just for walking around the farm when there is no moon! We are currently constructing a wood fired pizza oven in the place where our picnic tables and eating area are located.Pitch your tent or stay in one of our rooms or junglelows in the middle of our orchid nursery. Our property is in a secluded neighborhood, a 4.2 mile drive in from the main road (Highway 11). The drive in or out should take about 10-15 minutes. Volcano National Park is 19 miles from our home and will take about 30 minutes to drive. We are 18 miles from Hilo Farmers Market/downtown Hilo and again should take about 30 minutes. Pahoa area is 20 miles from us and just past a 30 minute drive. Tour the island during the day and come back to a spacious, private courtyard campsite where you can experience the beauty and sounds of our forest sanctuary.

We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night.
We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice.
We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. It can rain hard at times so having a good rain jacket is a great idea. On the other hand, people say that a sunny day on the east side of the big island is the best place to be in all of Hawaii.

In addition to growing food, we are also raising many animals and two children! You will see the girls up early in the morning playing with our three temple cats.
We are committed to living in harmony with the land, and as such we are mostly off-grid and catch our own water. We sort all of our trash meticulously for recycling. Currently plastic is NOT recycled on this island, so our Kuleana (responsibility) is to buy as little plastic as possible. We use only biodegradable and eco-friendly soaps, shampoo, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc. It’s a great experience in taking small actions to show our love to the ’āina (the land).

Wild and organic. That is the best way to describe our gardens. Our hanai mom started caring for this land over forty years ago. Her passion for flowers, fruits and organic, simple living can still be seen even in our attempts to gain some control. The land is in my sisters and my care now and we hope to honor her, keeping everything organic. Fighting back the invasive plants and continuing to plant more flowers, fruits and vegetables. We want to bring back some animals and create an environment that would bring her joy. We are so blessed to see René in all the beauty she gifted us with.
Our tropical rainforest, with forty years of love, beautiful organic gardens, tangerines, avocados, kukui, rhododendron, anthurium, hibiscus, and so much more to wander and enjoy. Rene would tell us how the railroad ended at the grove. We have found evidence. When the sky is clear at night you can see the milky way. This is my favorite place. I hope you enjoy.
There are things to be aware of, it's camping outdoors. There are bugs. Mosquitos, centipedes, fire ants. And there are pigs. Diatomaceous earth is great to put down before making camp. It's natural and detours bugs of all kinds. With the pigs, be louder and bigger than them and don't get between babies and parents.

Lava covered the site on 5 September 1990, after more than a thousand years of peaceful fertility. The flow met the Hakuma horst and was diverted north, filling the village of Kalapana and the beautiful Kaimu Bay. Lava continued to flow in the area for another 20 years, until 2011. We are restoring the fertility by bringing in mulch and soil and planting coconuts, mango trees, moringa, plumeria, figs, dragonfruits, and more.
Near the camp sites we've recently constructed a house out of local wood; it provides some shelter from the nearly constant trade winds. Premium strawberry guava BBQ firewood can be purchased by prior arrangement. There's a shower with cold water; it doesn't get very cold!
1 mile from ocean cliffs, 2 miles to a basic grocery store and a great weekly farmers market, 2.5 miles to Volcanoes National Park, 5 miles to Kehena public black sand beach at the base of the cliffs, with a community drum circle on Sundays. Welcome to the wild coast of South Puna!

We camped in our vehicle at Arnotts lodge. It was so easy to enjoy. The showers and toilets were very clean. Safe neighborhood and the staff is really nice. Highly recommend if you are looking for a place to tent/vehicle camp.

Really cool community farm! Got a wonderful tour of the property and orchid greenhouses by Jess when I arrived. There are two bathroom and two shower situations which were also very helpful. Definitely a nice place to rest

The property was beautiful! We loved waking up to bird songs in the morning and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. It was peaceful, luxurious, and all of our camping needs were met here. Can’t wait to stay again!

We loved our time at Mae’s farm so much we booked agin for a second night! What a beautiful location. Everything was clean, organized and as described but even more beautiful than we imagined! Mae had firewood for sale for us which was also a nice treat and made enjoying our fire very easy! Her dog Nobbs is the sweetest and we loved his visits when he would come to check on us. ❤️ Thanks for every thing Mae! We will be back!

We had a great time at Blaze's Hipcamp!! The property is beautiful! We really enjoyed sitting along the cliff and watching the waves, the warm shower, flushing toilet, and the hot tub. We we were originally booked for one night, but added a second when our plans changed, and we were so glad did. Highly recommend and we hope to return if we are ever back on the island.

Camping at Blaze’s site was an awesome experience. We 100% recommend his place and would love to come stay here again. The bathroom was clean, the campsite was super cozy, the dogs were so friendly and loving, the pool and hot tub area was incredibly relaxing, and the viewpoint on the cliff overlooking the water was absolutely breathtaking.
We had some issues with our rooftop tent camper that we rented through a separate company. Let me be clear, the camper that we rented is in no way associated with Blaze and his property. We booked the camper through a separate company which unfortunately did not provide the service we were hoping for, to say the least. However, Blaze’s brother, Shawn helped us in every way he could to alleviate some of the issues that arose from that experience. We are beyond grateful for his help.
Our experience with Blaze’s campsite was absolutely wonderful. We wished we could’ve stayed longer, but we look forward to coming back. If you want a great place to camp on Big Island, look no further.

The land was located in a little off-grid community. It was a charming place as a whole and I felt more of a connection to the land there than at some Hipcamps. It would have been extremely hard to find in dark, but fortunately I arrived before sunset so it wasn’t too bad. The road, while dirt, was also quite solid. I wish there had been more space to pull off the road by the site, but it didn’t seem to cause a problem with the very minimal traffic. Molly waved me down the next morning as I was leaving and we had a lovely chat - she is very welcoming, with some great local tips, too! I would not hesitate to stay again if I’m ever back in the area.
