This epic property was built by a Dillingham daughter and her husband in the early 80's. Transformed into a bed & breakfast in the 90's it is now known as Hawaii Island Resort. This consecutive guest review award winning
facility capitalized on the 2018 eruption by starting Hawaii Island Macadamia Nut Company. The orchard has been left alone for more than 20 years with only wild pigs and poultry to tend it. This remarkable property now boasts above organic macadamia nuts just beginning to reach global markets. You can buy cheaper macadamia nuts but you can't buy better nuts. We love to share our abundance with others and opening the property to travelers that love to camp seemed like a perfect addition to our current program. We look forward to meeting you :)

We have 4 pristine acres of land on the outskirts of the town of Hilo, with 3 acres of private forest, bordering on the Mauna Kea watershed, in the foothills of Mauna Loa volcano. Located in the Highlands of Waiakea Uka, at 1000-foot elevation, we are high above the humidity of Hilo. The glamping tent is situated right between the meadow and the forest. It's mostly peaceful here and it feels like being in the country. You can walk into the woods or up the road. There are no street lights, so there is a great view of the night sky. It's a great place for a Retreat, a Writer's Retreat, a Vision Quest or a Medicine Journey.

Hapu'u Ferns are also within our mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest. Enjoy the stunning 90 - 100 degree ocean views of Hawaii Island's Western Coastline, as well as the new Volcanic Vent (Known as Fissure 8) created by the 2018 Eruption of the Kileaua Volcano.
The Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP) is a 14 mile or 20 minute drive from our campsite. HVNP has a visitor's center to get information about the park, hiking trails throughout its boundaries, steam vents and the awe-inspiring caldera, which is the location of the volcano's lava pool. At night, the glow from the lava in the caldera can be seen at the park.
Our campsite is also an 18 mile or 29 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport and the town of Hilo, Hawaii.

We host monthly yoga residencies with daily connection rituals such as Mantra & Meditation, Empathy Exchange, ComeUnity Gardening, & excursions to the local hot springs, black sand beach, and Sunday morning ecstatic dance. We have yearly retreats on the Equinoxes & Solstices, which begin with a 30 day cleanse and culminate with a Gratitude Ceremony on the Summit of Mauna Kea.
As a retreat space, we often host guests who are on cleanses and/or dieta, so it is of utmost priority to keep the energy on the land pure and clear. Therefore, there is no smoking of any kind, alcohol consumption, or taking of plant medicine while on site. We ask that you show up with your full presence, without the influence of any other energies. We have quiet hours before 7:30 am and after 7:30 pm to honor the retreat atmosphere. Wi-Fi hours are from 8 am to 5 pm; please let us know if you need the Wi-Fi outside of these hours. We encourage you to leave your devices off as much as possible to receive from the healing frequency of the Earth.
The Sanctuary of the Blue Dragon is a also permaculture homestead featuring many hugelkulture garden beds growing staple foods like taro, pumpkin, cassava, sweet potato, and local greens. We have many young fruit trees in the ground and are blessed to have some mature trees currently producing banana, papaya, rollenia, & avocado. In addition to growing food, we are also raising many animals and two children! You will see the girls up early in the morning feeding the bunnies and guinea pigs or playing with our three temple cats.
We are committed to living in harmony with the land, and as such we are mostly off-grid and catch our own water. We sort all of our trash meticulously for recycling. Currently plastic is NOT recycled on this island, so our Kuleana (responsibility) is to buy as little plastic as possible. We use only biodegradable and eco-friendly soaps, shampoo, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc. It’s a great experience in taking small actions to show our love to the ’āina (the land).

To all guest you must wait at the lookout until i arrive to guide you into the Valley. Aloha and welcome to Spring Side Hale Surrounded by 2,500-foot cliffs, a journey into the Valley of the Kings requires a steep hike or 4x4 (four wheel drive). Now however, the valley is mostly wilderness interspersed with taro fields (Taro is a traditional Hawaiian staple food) and a couple of dozens of inhabitants.
Waipiʻo Valley Road is closed to non-residents. Visitor access to the valley floor and the subsequent valleys is only possible as part of a tour or if you know someone in the valley. The Waipiʻo Lookout is still accessible for everyone. Waipio Valley is a stunning scenic destination with a black sand beach, beautiful waterfalls and Hawaiian historical & cultural significance. It is a very spiritual place of healing, a place of connection with nature and a walk through the past, where time ceases to exist.
