The best star host campgrounds near Merritt Island, Florida

We loved Sandy’s Swamp. She’s a great host. She met us on time and showed us around. As advertised. Roughing it with perks. Our first morning in the swamp started with 4 hours of thunderstorms. We chilled in the large dry screened porch. Would have been horrible without it. Kayak launch was simple. Will be back when it’s cooler. Maybe a day trip so we can sleep in AC after a long shower.

6 nights at Annamac’s Hideaway

When we arrived we were met and directed where to pull in. Area was easily accessible for our 45 ft camper, back in. Very quiet area. Was worried because you are kind of close to owners house but barely saw anyone. Seems to be a very well used site, had a few other campers in and out. Again we really never saw others!!! Highly recommend. Very close to space center, Merritt Island refuge, site seeing, good dining and Cape Canaveral port. 30/50 amp hook up, water. Close to a Loves truck stop, KOA and other campgrounds for dumping waste. Had some plan changes and owners were very kind to accommodate for a longer stay!!! Thank you very much for your hospitality and sharing your space with us. Would definitely come back!!!

I did a lot of research for the surrounding area and picked this one for its privacy, price, proximity to the city. We were extremely happy with our decision. The privacy was our favorite part but the water, electric plug-ins, and tree cover made it comfortable.

We came out for our 1 year anniversary and had a blast! Huge fish! A zip line. Nice screened in area with chairs and a porte potty. We went adventuring in the woods which we love to do! We will definitely be back here! Sandy was the perfect host and answered all the questions we had and could recommend great places to check out!!! Thank you for the hospitality!! Almost forgot, perfectly private! 😁

We had a wonderful time camping in the woods. There were 4 of us, two of us have not slept in tents in decades. During our entire stay, we did not run into any other campers. In the morning we even used the canoe to see some of the birds and scenery in the area. Over all we had an even greater time than anticipated. One of the best features was how secluded the area felt.

Weekend Trip to Peaceful Pastures

I was looking for a quiet get away. A place that I could escape from the busy daily grind, without driving a long distance. I live 30 minutes from this location. It’s like not being in Florida! There’s grass & real trees, like my home in North Carolina, instead of sand & palm trees. It was perfect for me & my 2 dogs. They ran free the whole time. It appears to be completely fenced in, but my dogs don’t run off, so I wasn’t worried if it wasn’t. I booked for 1 night, but after the 1st night, I booked the 2nd. The GPS brought me right to the address, but once it says,”you’ve arrived “ look to your RIGHT as you drive a bit further ahead on the dirt road, watching for the metal pole entrance gate, with the 8”x10” Hipcamp signs, or you’ll end up on a neighboring property, like I almost did! Also, keep in mind, it’s old style camping. Bring all you’ll need with you. Karen, thank you for opening up your place. It, for me is a woodsy oasis in the midst of Florida. I’ll be back for sure. Thanks again.

What a peaceful splendid place to escape the day to day craziness. Sandy’s little paradise is nothing short of a paradise Walked around the property up and down the road Sandy herself was timely and very pleasant she gave us a tour of the property as well as her dome building. I will 100% be coming back to this location again probably when the weather cools off again.

100% stay here! It is off the beaten path, tranquil, stunningly beautiful, safe, and fun as well! I enjoyed canoeing around the swamp, zip lining, a campfire, eating breakfast on the ropes course platform amongst the trees and spirits, doing yoga on the floaty boat/dock, and walking the trails looking at all the gorgeous flora. Sandy was attentive, so very helpful, and also gave solitude and privacy. Such a gem for back woods camping. Loved it and will be back. Oh… and do eat at the line cabbage at sunset.

Sandy’s land was a perfect blend of adventure and comfort. The fire pit was great for cozy evenings, and the screen room kept us sheltered from bugs while offering a nice space to relax and place our tent. The toilet was also easily accessible and clean, which was a big plus. The zipline was an exciting and unexpected highlight, and the kayaks were provided for water exploration. Overall, a fantastic spot for a memorable camping experience!

We had a nice safe spot to stop for the night so we could visit friends in town. We had good communication with our host. Nice spot to have electric. Nice town to check out, we walked down the the farmers market and visited some nice little shops! Will stay again.

Karen's land was so welcoming and convenient during my FL adventure. She communicated clearly and responded quickly. I didn't get to spend too much time exploring as I arrived after dark and left as the sun was rising but I felt completely safe while there. Would definitely stay again when back in the area.

Had booked one night, after seeing it we immediately booked a second night! My son loved the zipline, tree platform, tire swing and many other playful addition. Host was the sweetest! Very quick to respond, helpful with local recommendations and everything else. There was a screened in room we could hang in with Citronella candles if mosquitoes had been bad, but they were not during the time we were there. Canal right outside camp with so many fish and fun to kayak in! Quiet. Private. We took a break from our adventures and recharged in this spot for a whole day fishing and exploring the area. The artwork was amazing. Would definitely recommend!
