The only and closest Hipcamp under the steady majesty of Needlerock! You need to arrive in daylight! This area was Ute land first and Needlerock was ceremonial ground. We have lots of large fields (110 acres) A river running through to dip into and secluded areas to be at one with the magical beauty here. Once a working sheep ranch we are now taking time to dream into this magical place and it’s next incarnation. Come pitch a tent or there are a couple spots to car camp and share in this ranch paradise. We limit each camping spot to two adults or a family with children are fine. Please do not come with 4+ people and one tent. Book accordingly and respectfully. There are mosquitos down by the creek at certain times in the summer in the evening, so we recommend bringing some bug spray. There is a fridge in the barn to keep small things cold and tables to use to sit and enjoy the rustic lux surroundings. We provide a porta potty so please only #1 (pee) outdoors. The land is big although we have 7 camping spots listed, and they are mowed all summer, there is plenty of room to usually be able to choose your own exact spot. This is a cut above basic camping with some nice amenities! We have very friendly dogs, horses and goats. The dogs are out and about and will want to greet you and possible hang out a little. It’s their home too:) We often have a friends yaks grazing here and the next door neighbors cows are always there.

This was a great site! I was worried about being on the north rim of Black Canyon because the “main” stuff is on the south rim but IT WAS SO GREAT! We did the south rim the day before and hit the North Rim morning after (views are 10x better!!) Definitely recommend Tater’s campground, so clean, so comfortable, so serene. Star gazing, stunning views, seclusion, and sweet pets 🩵 Traci + Chris have done a wonderful job.

We had the place to ourselves, and it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The owners were so warm and welcoming, and the showers were absolutely incredible; after a few days on the road camping, they felt like such a treat! They were warm, clean, and exactly what we needed. Having such beautiful amenities really made the stay extra special. Highly recommend!

This campsite will take your breathe away. Located right in front of needle rock and surrounded by beautiful mountains, it was truly a beautiful place to stay. And only 20 minutes from Black Canyon of the Gunnison and an hour-ish away from Grand Junction! The land owner, Jessica, gave us a warm welcome and did a great job accommodating us as her guests. She set up a nice table to eat at in her rustic barn, brewed us fresh coffee in the morning, and took us on a tour of her farm animals. We got to pet her beautiful horses and feed the silly goats. Overall, my girlfriend and I had a really great time and we'd definitely camp here again.

We stayed at Site 1 which was perfect for our van w/rooftop tent setup. It felt private despite all 4 sites being occupied. Nicely sheltered with flat gravel pad and picnic table. Checking in and finding our site was a breeze and communication with our hosts was timely. The views are amazing over the valley, nearby reservoir and Needle Rock in the distance.
The bath house was a really nice amenity. Super clean and spacious. Having the option to grab a shower was a bonus, especially after a day of exploring the North Rim of the Black Canyon a short drive just past Tater’s. We met Chris and he gave us lots of great information about the general area and Black Canyon specifically, as well as where we were headed to next.
All in all a great experience and would highly recommend.

Beautiful view! The campsite is directly behind the house as shown in the pics, but was not a problem for us. The host was very friendly. The location is close to town, and we walked to the Coffee Bear every morning to get our day started. Staying at this location was easy and relaxing. Thank you for your hospitality!

Such a beautiful view of the valley from Tater's camp!! We were only 20 min away from the north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and only 5 from a day use area at Crawford State Park. We also checked out a nearby winery in Paonia and the cherry days over 4th of July.
Having a clean bathroom with a hot shower was wonderful after all of the activities! Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your wonderful views! We'll be back!

We had such a great time at Tater’s! Directions were easy to follow and we had amazing views from site 2, as well as nice picnic table. We set up our tent and drove down to the west reservoir entrance and went paddle boarding for a couple hours before coming back for the night. Such beautiful night skies, we will absolutely be coming back!

We would definitely return to this campsite. Everything was clearly labeled and easy to access. The bathroom was clean and perfect for what we needed. Good view across the lake, though some sound from the campers does make its way up the hill. Each of the three campsites had a table and even though we could see other campers, we felt secluded and weren’t on top of one another. The only disappointment was that we didn’t get to meet the infamous Tater! Highly recommend.

Great campsite to base out of. Traci and Chris were wonderful hosts and great to chat with. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well kept. The sites felt well spaced. The instructions to get there were clear. They noted having solid stakes due to some rocky ground conditions. Traci and Chris clearly put effort into providing in an accurate description.
I couldn't ask for more for a car camping site. If I'm ever looking for a site in the area, I'd certainly come back here.
