Welcome to River’s Edge Cabin! Directly on Kern River with private river access and epic vistas of the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Meet the river as soon as you arrive! The entire property is yours - no other guests in the house or on the property.
The large and modern suite is perfect for couples or small family. With a full bathroom, well-stocked kitchenette, wood fireplace, cozy lounging nooks, propane BBQ, garden terraces, large dining patio, fast WiFi and fully gated property, you'll have everything you need to enjoy your riverfront stay.
A beautiful setting nestled among mature trees and terraced garden patios, your private suite has its own gated driveway, private entrance, kitchenette/dining area, and fireplace lounge. It is the entire lower riverside level of a larger 2-story house. The upper portion of the house is not rented and will be unoccupied during your stay, so the ample property grounds and riverfront are yours alone to enjoy! We offer a Level 2 EV Charger in the driveway.
The house is curated in a rustic-modern style with many thoughtful design details. The cedar wood paneling is locally sourced and the fireplace is made from local river rock. We've brought the outdoors in!
Inside you’ll find a relaxing space to take in the experience of a breathtaking riverfront setting.
Main bedroom opens to the large kitchenette and features a queen bed and a large, deep sofa.
The fireplace/lounge room has a queen-size sleeper sofa.
The adjoining bedrooms are separated by a short hallway with a privacy curtain. Each room has its own access to the outside.
Full bathroom with a walk-in shower. You'll also have your own AC/heat, Roku TV and Wi-Fi. The well-stocked kitchenette is equipped with an electric countertop cooktop (*please note there is no full oven or stovetop*), toaster oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. Everything a chef needs for simple meals! Propane Weber BBQ (we provide the propane).
Well-behaved and house-trained pets are considered with pre-approval. 2 dogs maximum. $60 dog fee per stay. Please tell us about your pet.
The entire property is fenced from front to backyard with lockable gates. Full outdoor dining, propane BBQ, hammock.
Past the backyard fence is an historical water canal and the river's edge terrace with lounge chairs.
This patio area has a metal handrail only, no fence. There is a natural boulder path with a handrail down to the river water. You must be sure-footed to access the water. WHAT TO DO:
River's Edge Cabin is located in a residential area 1 mile from town and just down the street from local hiking/running/bike trails. A drive into town is only a few minutes and there's so much to explore in the valley and surrounding mountains - all a short distance from the house.
Kern River runs all year as it is part of the Mt. Whitney drainage (the highest peak in the contiguous US).
The river flow peaks in spring with the snow melt from higher peaks. This is the best time for whitewater rafting and kayaking.
Late summer is good for tubing and floating when the river is lower.
Fishing is best fall through early spring before the spring runoff.
Winter brings snow to the higher elevations (rarely does snow stay long in Kernville). There's a natural snow ski resort 20 mins away and sledding is always fun.
Hiking is good all year. In the hottest time of summer, it's best to hike early in the morning.
Roads in and around town are paved, well-maintained, wide and mostly calm. There are no traffic lights in Kernville! A car is a must to see most of the hiking spots and sightseeing, but you can walk to the nearby Whiskey Flat Trail (about a mile away).
Bicycles are great for around town and some closer hiking trails. We love the walk into town through our rustic neighborhood (especially with our dog). Bring your bikes for road and trail riding.
Guided river rafting tours are an amazing way to see the river! Tubing too. We'll share all our tips in a digital guidebook that we provide after booking.
