Our 220 remote acres are adjacent to Shasta Trinity National Forest in the beautiful Cascade Range between Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta in Northern California.
It's a working ranch with tree farms, animals, hydroelectric power, sawmill, gardens, orchards, creeks, springs, trails, and our camp alongside Kosk Creek.
We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). DO NOT TAKE ROAD 11 FROM THE NORTH, IT IS CLOSED! PIease try to ignore the "car art" in the Pit River Tribe's Rancheria as you're coming here. Drive right through it, it's no reflection on us. The last mile or so of the road here can be pretty rough, but on arrival, you'll know it's worth the trip!
No Cell phone service available here, so it's the perfect opportunity to unplug. We do have a land line up at the house in case of an emergency. Also, if you really need it, WiFi is available at the house.

That 40 acres where we now live was badly abused, and we have been in the process of cleaning up and restoring it. Easily one of the best places we’ve stayed. The convenience, amenities and value were phenomenal and these hosts go above and beyond to give you a comfortable and very leisurely experience. Being able to get a last-minute reservation here on our way home was so fortunate for us, and we’ll definitely be back! Usually this is a convenient stopping point for us when travelling between WA and CA, but now we are already talking about coming back to this very spot for a dedicated vacation here. The suite has everything you could need and more— huge bonus points for great WiFi, private hot tub, and bussing station and laundry baskets right outside the door. Easy check in. The property outside was so wonderful, we loved being greeted by free range turkeys when we got out of the car, and walking the property to see all the livestock and fun features of the place. Between that and the interior style, it really feels like the perfect authentic Northern CA getaway. Looking forward to being back soon!

I loved my one night stay in Caboose #11! The caboose was clean and cozy, the hot tub was lovely in the rain, and dinner in the dining car was delicious. I had my dog with me and there were no problems with that, the property was dog-friendly as described (just had to pay a $25 pet fee when reserving through Hipcamp, not sure if that's the same if you book through their website directly). Everything was easy & nice! Would definitely stay here again.

This is the second time I've stayed in this beautiful cabin. Each time I've extended our stay. It has a cozy feeling once you step inside, and you feel right at home. The owner is super easy to contact when you have any questions or concerns, and she's super sweet to chat with. The only complaint I have is the Hipcamp app itself. The property owners that use this app has a lot of difficulty reaching out to me or being able to get on the app itself. So you would need to make sure that you have an alternate way of communicating with management because this app is unreliable when it comes to that. Highly recommend staying here!

My husband and I had a great time tent camping here!! We went during the off-season so it was extra quiet and the whole place was elaborately decorated for Halloween - including a haunted walk-through path, which was such a treat! There was a heated bathroom with showers and a cute camp store as well. Being next to I5 there was car noise but we found it to be more like white-noise than annoying. Our tent site was in the main part of the camp, but we walked up the short hill to where the other tent sites are and Mt Shasta is right there staring you down! It was beautiful. Also a bonus was all the farm animals! There were chickens, roosters, turkeys, goats, and more, and two cute little camp kittens led us around when we were exploring. We didn't get a chance during our short stay to meet the host, but she's provided such a fun and comfortable place to stay and we would definitely stay there again.

I can highly recommend this camping site.
The views of the mountains and stars at night are incredible! We stayed at T5 site and didn’t have any problems at all to drive on the gravel road up there. We managed to do this with a small Prius.
The camp site has also a small shop where we could buy souvenirs and essentials. At night they also had a small Halloween party, which was fun to attend.
The bathrooms next to our campsite were very clean and well maintained.

I love the airstreams at Cave Springs Resort. We had some technical issues with our airstream and the staff upgraded us at no extra charge. The staff are truly amazing, friendly, and polite. They place is conveniently located near the Sacramento River and near the major freeway so getting around is never an issue. The place is so clean, beautiful and tastefully decorated. They truly thought of every detail and I cannot recommend Cave Spring Resort enough. I will go back!

Scott was so welcoming!
I loved talking with him about the history of the area surrounding The Lofton Ranch.
The garden was blooming with many types of delicious grapes, grilling corn & the most delicious plums I’ve ever eaten.
Camp Stony Meadows is absolutely lovely & it is a perfect place for me & my pup to put up tent for a couple of nights under the stars.
We WILL be back:)
I chose camp 5 by the waterfall & I’d like to try campsites 7 & 6 on my next trip up to the area. All the camp spots were equally situated by the river, only real difference is maybe the privacy offered. Some spots are closer to cabins for rest-room use or the closer to the awesome outdoor kitchen that is set up with pic-nic tables and everything you could need for a family gathering.
Scott can help you figure out any plans in the area for things to do….

Swimming’ holes abound around the area & Scott can tell you the way!

My favorite part of Scott’s ranch might be the way the mosquito population that can sometimes plague one in other nearby areas
is gently and perfectly managed by an army of dragonflies come evening time💙💜💚
~And the mosquitos that the dragonflies miss get swooped up by swifts & swallows!
I usually leave Big Bend covered in bites after camping in the area, but not at Scott’s Ranch! Everything comes together perfectly, naturally here.

What an absolute incredible place to stay!! We wish we could have stayed longer but will be sure to come back. From the farm where you can pick your own corn, tomatillos, grapes and other great fruits and veggies, to the wide open farm, and amazing shallow river to be able to cool off in, this place is an all time favorite place to stay. Scott was very nice and helpful, checking in to make sure everything was going well. The kitchen had everything needed along with working toilet that flushed. Again, I can’t express what an amazing and magical place this is. Huge thanks to Scott for letting us stay here. We will be back!!

Very peaceful with the convenience of a communal kitchen, showers and a flush toilet. The creek is beautiful and due to its remote location there was only one other couple so we were able to spread out between two other sites. We were awestruck by the stars and were lulled to sleep by the night sounds of crickets and the creek. The raspberries growing both wild and in the garden and were delicious. We also enjoyed plums and grapes. Our host Scott was our hero when we had trouble with our hitch and he brought out tools and grease until we succeeded in hooking it up for our departure. We greatly enjoyed iron canyon reservoir which is stuffed with trout and again there were no other people. We had a lovely time kayaking there. We highly recommend!

Where to go
Shasta-Trinity National Forest
Hike, bike, paddle, and ski at California’s largest national forest, just under 20 minutes from Lake Siskiyou. Stretching over two-million acres, Shasta-Trinity National Forest is home to Lake Shasta, California’s largest man-made lake, and Mt. Shasta, one of the state’s highest peaks. A range of scenic trails wind through the park, including the famous Pacific Crest Trail connecting Mexico to Canada. The forest also hosts over 50 developed campgrounds with full hookups, firepits, picnic tables, and restrooms, as well as cabin rentals and dispersed campsites unless otherwise posted. Grab a campfire permit for a warmer night at dispersed sites.
Klamath National Forest
Nestled north of Lake Siskiyou, Klamath National Forest sits on the border of California and Oregon. Its numerous botanic, geologic, and wilderness areas also host 34 developed campgrounds with full hookups and 10 picnic areas. Klamath also offers on-site cabin rentals and some equestrian campsites, as well. No matter where campers wake up, they can trek along old growth redwoods and Douglas firs, get an adrenaline boost on a white-water rafting excursion, or kayak on the Klamath, Scott, and Salmon Rivers.
Lassen Volcanic National Park
Venture through volcanoes at Lassen Volcanic National Park on its 150 miles of trails. Less than two hours south of Lake Siskiyou, Lassen is known for its bubbling mud pots, steam vents, and hot springs. For an easier hike, check out Bumpass Hell Trail for a 3-mile loop to the park’s largest geothermal features. Or cruise Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway for some of the park’s most scenic viewpoints and entries to trailheads. Several on-site campgrounds offer tent, RV, and horse campsites with access to restrooms and showers. But, despite Manzanita Lake’s dump station, there are no hookups in the park.
Redwood National and State Parks
The Redwood National and State Parks system consists of Redwood National Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Each park shares a similar ecosystem made up of prairies, rivers, coastline, and massive redwood forests. Campers can spot northern spotted owls and Chinook salmon on a scenic drive along Coastal Drive Loop. Or park the RV and go biking along Ossagon Trail toward Gold Beach. Bring furry friends to Cal Barrel Road where leashed dogs are allowed to sniff the redwoods. Then stay at four developed campgrounds that provide tent and RV campsites as well as potable water and dump stations. Or camp under the trees at free backcountry campsites with a permit.
