Our campground sits on half of our property—designed for comfort while staying close to nature. Book one of our two bunkhouses (full/twin or twin/twin beds) or enjoy our unique glamping tent furnished with late-1800s pieces.

Good to Know

The final ¼ mile to the property is a dirt road that can be bumpy or muddy after rain. Some areas have uneven ground, so bring sturdy shoes. Pets are welcome—just keep them leashed and off the furniture.

Starry Desert Haven

Come and explore these 40 acres of raw desert land. The property is completely off-grid, surrounded by beautiful mountains and the dark night sky is perfect for star gazing. This land is very special to me. There are 5 dogs on the property that may roam as well as wild horses and cattle. There are plenty of walking trails leading to different areas of the property, making it easy to stay on a trail and explore. Located about 45 minutes from Saguaro National Park and the Desert Museum; about 1 hour from downtown Tucson. This location is also on the way to Kitt Peak Observatory. The roads to get here can be a bit rough so 4x4 vehicle is recommended!

Howdy, Folks!

My name is Joel, and I turned my off-grid property into a park. It’s located right across the street from a 3,000 acre swath of Arizona recreational state land. AZ state land is like a state park, but with zero amenities. So, I started building amenities on my property.

We now have trash service, compost toilets, running hot water, a shower building, a furnished campsite, a mini barndominium, and everything runs on solar power.

We also get Amazon deliveries.

The park is only 20 miles from the Tucson city limits, but when you get out here you’ll feel like you’re a million miles away. Your ears will ring for the first half hour while adjusting to the quiet.

It’s a great place to read a book, unwind, and take some time off from the mouse marathon of daily urban life.

It’s also a great place to bring your ATV, dirt bike, or favorite pew-pews to go play Mad Max Beyond Thunderchicken out in the state land.

There’s a little something for everybody if you know what I mean.

Night time is very dark out here. There are no street lights because Kitt Peak National Observatory is just over yonder. You can see it from the property.

Most nights the Milky Way is clear and visible in the sky. I have pathway lights, and low lumen lighting around the park, but a flashlight is still helpful for getting around at night.

Next door is a bird sanctuary with 2 macaws (Blue Bird and Max), and halfway up the mountain (Keystone Peak) is an abandoned fluorite mine you can go explore.

We are in the foothills of the Sierrita Mountains, at an elevation of 3,200 ft. That’s 1,000 ft higher than Tucson, and 2,000 ft higher than Phoenix. The plant life is very lush and green for the desert, and the wildlife is plentiful.

La Hacienda Chuparosa

When my husband and I were dating in NY we confessed our mutual desire to get back "home" to the west. It made me fall in love with him even faster. So when we married we moved to Washington DC knowing that in time we would make it west. 5 years later, when the traffic and the politics has taken its toll, we made a trip to Tucson and fell in love with this charming property that exudes all the beauty and grace of the Sonoran Desert. We looked at each other as we walked around looking at the stunning Mtn. Views and the mesquite fence and knew we were finally "home."
I've always adored the SW Hummingbirds and wanted to name the property La Hacienda Chuparosa.  When we moved in, for the first week, every morning a hummingbird was sipping nectar from one of our plants in the front yard. We knew it was meant to be. 
So we added a couple of horses to our dream, built some stalls, and now are ready to welcome you to La Hacienda Chuparosa. We know you will find the same magic here that we do.

 We are conveniently located just 7.7 miles (15 minutes) east of I-10.'

*Please note:  We do not allow tent, truck, or car camping.  All guests must have a self contained, trailer, RV, or camper van with a working toilet. We have full hook ups with a 30 amp electrical service. 

 We enjoy traveling in our trailer and have recently determined that we would love to provide a convenient, beautiful and peaceful camping experience for others!

 We have beautiful mountain views and are adjacent to the Tortolita Preserve.

 The reserve offers trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

 We have cleared a portion of our land, far enough away from our home, in order for our guests to experience a taste of desert beauty and privacy.

 If you enjoy wildlife, know that it is very likely you will see cottontail rabbits, jack rabbits, javelina, and more.

You may wish to visit the Ritz Carlton - Dove Mountain which is just a short 6.3 miles up the hill. There, you can enjoy a delicious meal and/or the best of golfing.

 Dove Mountain Brewing is 2.7 miles down the hill and offers locally handcrafted beer! Enjoy the best beer and grilled food while playing darts or watching your favorite sports team on TV.

 The best thing about our property is the feeling of being secluded yet having everything else nearby.
