The Painted Desert Ranger Cabin is a backcountry, off grid cabin acquired by Ranger Ross in 2011. Ranger Ross lived in the cabin while he worked as a resource protection ranger at the Petrified Forest National Park. The ranger cabin is a rustic off grid cabin that offers no amenities. 4 nights at Cabin by the Pond

This place is a little slice of Heaven! Cute and quaint cabin, with a spacious loft and homey feel. There were a ton of great hiking spots with beautiful views on these 40 acres. My German Shepherd enjoyed swimming in the pond, artistically lined with cattails and full of friendly fish. The other pond was a bit overgrown, but still a sight to see. The night sky is perfect for star gazing, away from city lights. “Cabin by the Pond” is definitely a great place to go to escape the business of life!

Sandee was so helpful and kind. She called me even though we got in super late to explain where everything is. The space was clean and well oragnized- kitchen stocked with supplies and utensils if your lacking. We will 100% be coming back !

Cabin by the Pond was a really nice place. Michele was very accessible and was a pleasure to deal with. If you like to fish…. The pond closest to the cabin was full of Bluegill and a few Black Bass. We never tried the second pond as it was difficult to reach due to overgrown reeds. All in all, we would definitely return and recommend!!

My daughter and I are on an across the country roadtrip and stayed here for 1 night. The place is in an incredible location with complete solitude. However, even my Chevy Silverado bottomed out lightly in a few spots. The description is very clear that access is limited and that is very true, but it’s worth the visit. I wouldn’t recommend a visit in the summer because the building remains hot all night long (even with the garage door open), but it would seem perfect for spring and fall visits. We set up our cots outside for a relaxing night under the stars, but an unexpected storm rolled in and quickly cancelled those plans. Inside worked fine, but it was very warm. There’s a lot of space inside for a couple or small family. Would I or we return again, certainly. It’s truly a unique experience you’ll be unlikely to match. Thank you, Sam & Olivia Essex, VT

Look for the post office 👍 I absolutely loved the landscape I camped in, full of all sorts of cacti and succulents, curious ponies, sly coyotes, and vistas clouds that make you pause and wonder. The road is like a cobblestone riverbed after the turn off for the spot on the right. There is something there to mark it. Absolutely loved it and would come back with more time and do some of the provided activities like pony riding. Thanks for sharing this beautiful space with me.

Great place to feel peaceful and take some time to reflect on life. Everything is ready for a great family experience or just a get away retreat to take some walks and look at the clouds go slowly by. The land is very peaceful, was the first time in years I was very relaxed. We stayed for a few days, brought our dogs and even they were relaxed, must be the tranquility of the land. The only regret I have, is not staying longer, this place is a must stay location if you want to relax and get away from the day to day “hustle”.
