When my husband and I were dating in NY we confessed our mutual desire to get back "home" to the west. It made me fall in love with him even faster. So when we married we moved to Washington DC knowing that in time we would make it west. 5 years later, when the traffic and the politics has taken its toll, we made a trip to Tucson and fell in love with this charming property that exudes all the beauty and grace of the Sonoran Desert. We looked at each other as we walked around looking at the stunning Mtn. Views and the mesquite fence and knew we were finally "home."
I've always adored the SW Hummingbirds and wanted to name the property La Hacienda Chuparosa. When we moved in, for the first week, every morning a hummingbird was sipping nectar from one of our plants in the front yard. We knew it was meant to be.
So we added a couple of horses to our dream, built some stalls, and now are ready to welcome you to La Hacienda Chuparosa. We know you will find the same magic here that we do.

Campers can enjoy a warm beautiful sunset and star gazing in the evening, with views of the hazy band of the Milky Way and shooting stars next to the fire pit provided at each site. This is a safe place to get off the road for a bit, or to take a break from the busy/noisy city life, to relax and unwind in nature! Dogs are welcome, but please pick up after your pet!

We (Tim and Victoria) moved out to our place in the desert in February 2008 along with our many plants. We have continued to grow our little farm of 6 acres to what it is today, which includes an orchard with about 50 fruit and nut trees and enclosed garden/greenhouse structures with veggies and herbs that are protected from wildlife and the elements. We have a seasonally heated pool with 3/4 wraparound deck and amazing views of the Tucson Mountains. We have a basketball court, a ping pong table, cornhole court as well for recreation. Our Beach site has a domed 'chill zone' with heaters in the winter, comfortable chairs for relaxation and a great spot to let your dog hang out unleashed. Iron Quail Ranch is secluded and quiet. Although I had to leave in the mornings to go to work locally, it was wonderful to return to the peace and quiet of the ranch after a hectic workday. It met my needs for a place to stay while working. It has beautiful desert scenery, mountain views and livestock seen and unseen in around the ranch. Your host Michael is quite knowledgeable of desert vegetation, wildlife and conservation. There is value in talking to him if you want to understand how to farm in a desert environment. If you just need an "out of the way," getaway, this is the place to go.

The platform tent site at Weary Traveler Haven was clean, beautiful, and incredibly peaceful—exactly what we were hoping for over the holiday season. Communication with Taylor was excellent from start to finish, making everything easy and stress-free. We truly enjoyed the quiet surroundings and would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing tent- camping getaway. The distant coyote serenade at night was our absolute favorite part of the stay! We look forward to coming back in the future! 🏜️

This spot was fantastic!! Nice and private on our part and the hosts part. We did not feel like we were intruding on her space and she kept her distance making us feel like it was our own private spot. The views were beautiful. It was nice being in town and close to everything but not feeling like we were in the middle of the city! The animals were a huge bonus. Our boys loved seeing them and hearing them every morning. The communication was fantastic. The rules/expectations were very clear and reasonable. We will definitely keep this in mind for future travels.

This place was absolutely beautiful! Clean restrooms and nice and warm/hot shower. Taylor was friendly and easy to communicate with, Getting here was a breeze. I will say if you want a completely quiet stay or if you’re a light sleeper this place might not be for you since you can hear cars as they’re driving by. But 10/10 recommend!!!

Lovely and secluded desert oasis exactly as advertised for road weary travelers. Enjoyed the seclusion, dark night sky and close proximity to Tucson. Highly recommended for its minimalism and desert maximalism.

The views were lovely and we found the camp to be spotlessly clean. The bathroom was amazing, much nicer than pictured, and also pristine. There was definitely a lot of attention to detail in creating this space.
My husband and I are older and we often have friends who are nervous about camping. This would be a perfect spot for anyone wanting to have a little get away or practice camping, yet feel safe while doing so.

I enjoyed my brief stay at Weary Traveler Haven and definitely plan to book again when I need a great place away from the city to star-gaze. Booked this stay to watch the Orionid meteor shower and was not disappointed. The tent platform was the ideal place to lay back and watch the sunset and meteor shower and then sunrise the next morning. I also appreciated the fire pit with its included grill. And it was incredibly nice having a clean and conveniently located restroom within easy walking distance from the camping spot. The location of this hipcamp spot was easy to get to, the instructions were simple to follow, and I was greeted shortly after my arrival with the fresh loaf of sourdough I purchased from the hosts. They were unfortunately out of the jam, but promptly reimbursed me and sincerely apologized. If you can afford to, definitely treat yourself to a loaf. It was delicious. Communication with the hosts was also really easy and their responses back were quick and always friendly. There was a bit of construction going on close to the property which started early in the morning, but it didn't bother me much. Overall, I had an incredible time at this location and plan to book again in the future.

This was our first time with Hipcamp and very impressed. First off Tim & Victoria went out of their way to make sure everything was ok. It had sites set so you weren’t super close. They just opened Playa Tortuga Ultra Lounge a domed space to meet with the other campers to visit stay out of the heat or use a heater on cold night or a propane fire pit and visiting. They have several other things to do for activities. Our campsite had a propane grill, sink and running water, fire ring, table and chairs and a tub with extras if you forgot something. Nothing was left out and we didn’t even bring all our usual stuff for tent camping as they had it for us. Fun place to stay

Due to some issues with receiving our new van, we basically lost a day of our trip, so we didn't get to spend the night at Iron Quail as planned. We kept Michael informed and did stop by for a quick look at his ranch and take advantage of his modern outhouse (full bathhouse) which was great. Michael was a great host and showed us around his ranch and taught us about it all. He was very patient and nice to our 7-year-old granddaughter answering all her questions and allowing her to pet the dogs, goats, and chickens. She loved the experience.
Thanks Michael and hope to make it back so we can spend a night in the dark desert!
