Escape to Mesquite Haven, a peaceful off-grid campground nestled on five scenic acres on Tucson’s west side. Surrounded by mesquite trees, stunning desert sunsets, and incredible stargazing skies (we’re part of the Dark Sky program), this is the perfect place to unwind, explore, or simply breathe.

We’re just 15 minutes from Saguaro National Park, the Desert Museum, and Old Tucson Theme Park, with endless opportunities for hiking, biking, caving, and even skiing on Mt. Lemmon. Whether you’re seeking adventure or a quiet retreat, we’re happy to help plan your perfect stay.

What You’ll Find

Our campground sits on half of our property—designed for comfort while staying close to nature. Choose from spacious pull-through sites with raised pads for tents, van camping, pop-ups, or Class B trailers up to 16 feet. Prefer something cozier? Book one of our two bunkhouses (full/twin or twin/twin beds) or enjoy our unique glamping tent furnished with late-1800s pieces.

Nature All Around

Listen to horses, ducks, peacocks, owls, and coyotes as you relax under the stars. Spot rabbits, hawks, eagles, lizards, and more. This is true desert living—beautiful, wild, and serene.

Good to Know

The final ¼ mile to the property is a dirt road that can be bumpy or muddy after rain. Some areas have uneven ground, so bring sturdy shoes. Pets are welcome—just keep them leashed and off the furniture.

Wild Burro Desert Retreat

We are empty-nesters enjoying our retirement years on our 5 beautiful acres in Marana, AZ.

 We are conveniently located just 7.7 miles (15 minutes) east of I-10.'

*Please note:  We do not allow tent, truck, or car camping.  All guests must have a self contained, trailer, RV, or camper van with a working toilet. We have full hook ups with a 30 amp electrical service. 

 We enjoy traveling in our trailer and have recently determined that we would love to provide a convenient, beautiful and peaceful camping experience for others!

 We have beautiful mountain views and are adjacent to the Tortolita Preserve.

 The reserve offers trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

 We have cleared a portion of our land, far enough away from our home, in order for our guests to experience a taste of desert beauty and privacy.

 If you enjoy wildlife, know that it is very likely you will see cottontail rabbits, jack rabbits, javelina, and more.

You may wish to visit the Ritz Carlton - Dove Mountain which is just a short 6.3 miles up the hill. There, you can enjoy a delicious meal and/or the best of golfing.

 Dove Mountain Brewing is 2.7 miles down the hill and offers locally handcrafted beer! Enjoy the best beer and grilled food while playing darts or watching your favorite sports team on TV.

 The best thing about our property is the feeling of being secluded yet having everything else nearby.

 

There is certainly no shortage of things to do and no shortage of desert beauty here at the Wild Burro Desert Retreat!

Our addition of a Little Free Library adds to the essential educational aspect we desire, and fuels the community spirit at the heart of it all.

We hope the ambience will encourage our visitors to slow down, relax and remember that there is always time to enjoy the little things in life. Get hands on if you desire&nbsp;with plants and animals during your stay, and endulge in star gazing at night where the milky way is visible in the sky. We provide respite from city noise and light pollution. You'll find&nbsp;solace for the soul within the Garden of Peden. There is a little free library for guests to enjoy and plenty of room to relax and read if one wishes. Chickens are coming soon so that guests can help themselves to the fresh eggs they provide.

Shady campsite tucked between two homes in central Tucson with 15A, 30A & 50A electric hookup, sewer-dump, water and Wifi.  No restroom facilities are provided.

 45ft maximum total length for RV, trailer and tow vehicle.  12 ft max height. 9 ft max width.

No slide outs. No generator use. 

Close to bus routes.

Secured storage for your bikes, misc or private changing.

At the foot of the Saguaro National Monument West, a true desert experience. Watch the incredible Sonoran sunsets and gaze at thousands of stars as you listen to the coyotes howl. This is a remote get away from it all experience!

This site  is only available for RV use. There are no shower or restroom facilities available.  There are two RV sites available both have 50/30 amp systems  with well water faucets and hookups to a septic system. The second site is only available to the primary renter at an additional cost.
