Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. This is “Stone Soup,” in honor of unique geology and a folktale where everyone brings something to make a whole greater than its parts. A hut, built with love during musical campouts, materials are recycled from building sites may be available, on a first-come first serve basis, but please don't count on anything being there but the open land and sky. There are 40 acres to explore and camp on. You can follow the property boundaries, or just head straight out from the hut away from the road or on the other side of the road for at least half a mile and camp anywhere. You can drive all over the land in a regular vehicle and find your spot. If you do use the hut, please leave it in better shape than you found it. Same with the land. Here is my vision: Adventurous, creative, nature-loving kindred souls can converge on these 40 acres and bring what they need but also share with one another (the stone soup spirit). Although you do need to take in and out everything (water, food, bedding...) and there is no outhouse at the moment (dunes for some privacy, and thinly bury your waste), you can drive anywhere on the land and have what you need in your vehicle. It sometimes gets windy, so car-camping is recommended over tents, though you can also bring your RV. Basically at the moment, this is an isolated, wild campsite, with total peace and quiet but where you bring everything. There is no running water, cooking supplies, or toilet. You may find firewood further down the road, and can have a fire anytime, but nothing is supplied. You will need to take your trash with you. The photos are not up to date and still show amenities that are not there. The hut may be available, but it is just a structure with no door. Also note that there is no way to get there with Google maps/ GPS coordinate. I will send detailed directions if you book, but you probably want to arrive with some daylight. If prepared to rough it, it's a gorgeous site with open sky, amazing views, stars, rocks, and silence.

Our high desert cattle ranch is located in Central Arizona and covers 13,000 acres. We lease government land to maintain our mother cows and breeding stock. Our herd of Brangus and Beefmaster Cross cattle are best adapted to the desert-type climate. We also have some American Wagyu cattle. The cattle forage on native grasses in mesquite, catclaw, prickly pear, and pinyon-type vegetation. It’s a passion and more about a lifestyle that involves hard work, grit, and dedication. Raising cattle and livestock has always been a way of life that both, Pierre & Kristi, have been a part of. This campsite is 3.7 miles from Grand Canyon Junction for food, gas, water, and supplies, and 30 miles to Grand Canyon National Park. There are two sites with fire pits and campfires are allowed but may be restricted during certain times when warm temperatures and high winds are forecasted. Please bring a shovel to clear the fire pit out if there is sand or leftover wood in it. Other things to note: From Highway 64, travel 0.85 miles east on Pine Rd to reach the property. The dirt road has some bumps but is accessible with a 2WD car when the road is dry but 4WD is recommended when there is snow or rain. Also, since you will be traveling on an unmarked dirt road, it is advised to reach the campsite before dark so it easier to locate. Back to basics with endless desert sky. Hike giant rock sculptures, gather petrified wood, maybe find the hidden pond or seasonal Little Colorado to splash in . Bathed in the Canyon's ethereal ambiance, powdery views of Navajo Plateau and snowy San Francisco Peaks await. This is “Stone Soup,” in honor of unique geology and a folktale where everyone brings something to make a whole greater than its parts. A hut, built with love during musical campouts, materials are recycled from building sites may be available, on a first-come first serve basis, but please don't count on anything being there but the open land and sky. There are 40 acres to explore and camp on. You can follow the property boundaries, or just head straight out from the hut away from the road or on the other side of the road for at least half a mile and camp anywhere. You can drive all over the land in a regular vehicle and find your spot. If you do use the hut, please leave it in better shape than you found it. Same with the land. Here is my vision: Adventurous, creative, nature-loving kindred souls can converge on these 40 acres and bring what they need but also share with one another (the stone soup spirit). Although you do need to take in and out everything (water, food, bedding...) and there is no outhouse at the moment (dunes for some privacy, and thinly bury your waste), you can drive anywhere on the land and have what you need in your vehicle. It sometimes gets windy, so car-camping is recommended over tents, though you can also bring your RV. Basically at the moment, this is an isolated, wild campsite, with total peace and quiet but where you bring everything. There is no running water, cooking supplies, or toilet. You may find firewood further down the road, and can have a fire anytime, but nothing is supplied. You will need to take your trash with you. The photos are not up to date and still show amenities that are not there. The hut may be available, but it is just a structure with no door. Also note that there is no way to get there with Google maps/ GPS coordinate. I will send detailed directions if you book, but you probably want to arrive with some daylight. If prepared to rough it, it's a gorgeous site with open sky, amazing views, stars, rocks, and silence.

There was something special about the GCO. Basics first: Adam was super friendly and a great host; the property is quiet and clean. There is some road noise, but I ran a fan for white noise and used ear plugs and got great sleep. The extras: the lodge is a great, eclectically decorated spot with sofas, a TV, pool table, among other cool items (nice space to have, especially when you're traveling in a van). The views from Desert View are unobstructed and amazing. Don't miss the show when the sun sets! It literally changes minute to minute. The night skies are amazing as well. I can see why this is hollowed ground in the Native American culture. Don't hesitate to stay here; I'll be back for sure when I'm back in that region.

Laura was super sweet! There were very clear instructions on how to get in! The bathroom was super clean it had a flushing toilet and running water. She also had farm animals that were so friendly. Her dogs are the absolute cutest and super friendly! The campsite was so nice and very spacious. It had a table and fire pit with logs to sit on! The walk to the creek was super pretty and well maintained! We really enjoyed staying here!

This spot was ideal for a one-night stop on my way to Sedona. All of the animals are very calm and friendly with people, especially the horses. The view of the mountains and stars is really beautiful. Holly and her family are very kind and welcoming, and also allow visitors their own space. I stayed at Sunset camp which is a patch near the gate, good for self-contained car/tent camping. Heard the roosters in the morning! Rustic and cool spot.

We were very comfortable at site 7. There is tons of space set up tents. We were able to fit 4 tents and 1 large EZ up style canopy with plenty of room to spare. The ground is also not super hard and Rocky, it is relatively easy to hammer in and remove tent stakes. There is signage to direct you to your proper campsite. My friend who came in a Kia Spectra was able to get onto the property with no problems. The porta-johns were clean. Fellow campers were quiet and courteous. It was honestly almost like we didn't even have neighbors, which was nice. The camp host's dog Buddy did absolutely make a special appearance in the morning. The dog was super friendly and loving. Overall this was quite a pleasant experience and I would be happy to camp with this host again.
