A few notes on the property: Most people have never used an EcoToilet and don’t realize it takes some work. If you have children, you will very likely have to do this part for them. We keep the lounge area as clean as possible but at the end of the day it is an outdoor kitchen! Kitchenwares will have a layer of dust even if cleaned the day prior, so please give everything a rinse before you using! You may read about mosquitoes in some of our past reviews, but I am happy to share that we now have a monthly mosquito service in place that has mitigated that issue :) Learn more about this land: Our intention for this artist community is to bring like-minded people together and make the world a more beautiful place. It serves as our primary residence and also residence for seasonal workers&traveling artists when they come here. Every year we have the opportunity to employ about a dozen people to work with us during the tourist season, from March-October. This camping experience was unlike any other! Kara and her team have done such a beautiful job creating a space that exudes tranquility and ease. The dome itself is amazing, truly set up with everything you need - bed, tables, power bank (more than ample, we charged things the whole 2.5 day trip and only use 50%), games, blackstone (CLUTCH - grill tools provided, just bring food), lamp, drip coffee maker (not k cup), climate control options (ac fan, top exhaust fan, heater, we were very comfortable in the 40°-70° temp ranges). And don’t even get me started on how wonderful the hot shower is! Toilet is easy to use, nice privacy, and there’s a hand sink!! Our site had a wonderful view of the creek, which we did venture down to in the afternoon - lots of rocks, bring solid water shoes! The space is lit up nicely at night time with the solar lights. The only “downside” if there is one is the hill we had to traverse to unload and load the car, but with some ingenuity and leg power, not too bad. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hidden gem, and suspect Kara will be fully booked up in no time! Get it if you can 👍👍

What a magical vacation! If you’re looking for a truly unique glamping experience this is the place! The geodome was so clean and tidy. It had everything we needed plus a nice hot shower. You truly cant beat a campfire overlooking a beautiful creek! Don’t forget to checkout the lit up trail to have an adventure under the stars. Kara was a kind and excellent host that made our stay unforgettable. We will definitely be coming back!

Starlight Haven was a perfect weekend- glamping get away. The view was very pleasant and the amenities were perfect for what we needed. We enjoyed using the grill and sharing our meals on our porch looking at the lake. The place was very clean and cozy. They even had a couple board games stocked. I would highly recommend as a peaceful get away! The team was also responsive. One thing I’ll say is that the domes are relatively close to one- another which was fine with us, but not the most private getaway. Still ample space, and more space than what you would get in a traditional camping setting between sites.

We stayed in one of the geodomes by the lake and it was great! Nice kitchen and bathroom with everything needed included. Definitely a great glamping experience! We’ll be back. Check out the Little Rock River hiking too, very pretty. Rome Georgia had a cute little downtown area with restaurants and shops.

Wow. Nothing about this place is by accident. I was impressed before we ever even walked into our geo dome. Then even more so as we did! I’ve traveled all over the United States and been overseas and this is one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed. This was only a stop along the way to the Ozarks for my son and I, but I would plan a relaxing extended Stay completely for this place.

Where to go

North Alabama

Hikers and campers are in their element in Alabama’s northern wilderness, dotted with caves, waterfalls, and woodlands. Go hiking and kayaking in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at DeSoto State Park, peep the fall foliage at Little River Canyon National Preserve, and discover the caves of Cathedral Caverns State Park. Or head to the shores of Alabama’s largest lake to camp, boat, and spot bald eagles at Lake Guntersville State Park.

Central Alabama

Urban campers can find plenty of distractions in Birmingham, but Alabama’s largest city is also within easy reach of some of the state’s most memorable natural landscapes. Great hiking, biking, and camping can be found in Talladega National Forest, after which you can scale Alabama’s highest peak at Cheaha State Park and explore ancient caves at Rickwood Caverns State Park. Other popular campgrounds are found at Lake Lurleen and Wind Creek state parks.

South Alabama

Montgomery is the gateway to south Alabama and neighbouring Selma is a key stop on the Civil Rights trail, but outside of the cities, south Alabama is all about lakeside camping. To the east, Lake Eufaula is known as the “Big Bass Capital of the World” and has a wide choice of campgrounds, while nearby Blue Springs State Park offers plenty of lake camping. To the west, the Tombigbee River Valley is also prime for getting on the water.

Gulf Coast

Alabama’s 60-mile stretch of Gulf Coast shoreline is the place to cool off from the summer sun, spot shorebirds along the wetlands, or tee off at one of many coastal golf courses. RV parks are easy to find around the resort towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, while Dauphin Island remains a perennial favorite for beach camping. Alternatively, snag an RV site with full hookups at Gulf State Park, or book a cabin on the shores of Lake Shelby at Meaher State Park.
