On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy. I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river. This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads. There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been unused since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north into the national forest. There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls. There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site. There is no leash required for good pups. If your pup is aggressive with other dogs or people please leash them when on the hiking trails. If your pups would stay in your campsite no leash is required. Other campers may be hiking past your campsite on the trails that is still over 100 feet away from others campsites. You may run into others on the trails where others dogs may not be leashed. If your dog is aggressive to other dogs even if yours is on leash if you can’t control them please muzzle them. A small bunk cabin now sits on the property, but the site remains fully open for tent camping or travel trailers. Tucked away yet easy to access, this one-of-a-kind retreat offers total seclusion with no neighbors in sight. You’ll have the entire 30 acres to yourself, surrounded by wild, untouched woods. There’s plenty of room to spread out with tents or park your camper/travel trailer. Spend your days relaxing around the campfire, exploring the beautiful Penokee Mountain area, and soaking in the peace of the Northwoods. Adventure on the property: A private trail leads about a half-mile (roughly 30-minute round-trip hike) to Happy Creek Flowage, a peaceful 10-acre lake. The trail is hilly and rugged—true Northwoods terrain—but well worth it. A paddle boat is waiting for calm floats on the water. ATVs and side-by-sides can also use the trail for quicker access. We’re working on installing a dock, but until then, plan to wear high boots or get your feet wet reaching the boat. The lake has no public access, so it’s all yours! Local DNR folks say there may be trout in the lake—we’re looking forward to confirming that this summer. Nearby attractions: Little Town Coffee Truck - 4 mi: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC COFFEE, located at the Mellen Police Department Parking Lot. Copper Falls State Park - 6.5 mi: stunning waterfalls. Drop Tine Restaurant in Cayuga - 3.5 mi: serves up an excellent fish fry and burgers. Meder Lake - 1.2 mi Long Lake - 2.6 mi Lake Galilee - 4.3 mi English Lake - 10 mi Many other lakes within a 20 minute drive. Ironwood, Michigan - 40 min drive. Please note: Cell service is spotty (especially for AT&T), so plan accordingly. The bunk cabin will be unoccupied during your stay, giving you full privacy on the property. If you’d like to rent the bunk cabin in addition to the campsite, just reach out—I’d be happy to arrange it. Please note that the cabin has no electricity or running water and features an unfinished interior.

Short drive from the Namekagon River which is great for tubing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. Due to a recent review, I am also adding here that swimming from our property is not ideal. The lake tends to be weedy during warm summers. There are places to swim nearby, so if you are booking with the sole intent of being able to swim, please be aware that this is likely not the best site for you unless you are willing to drive to a nearby beach.

Also known as the Hershey Homestead, our property is home to what we like to call the funny farm. We have lots of kids and all of them are involved in 4h so that means we have lots of animals. Chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, goats, sheep, pigs, beef, and horses each have a home here as well as dogs and cats. It's rarely quiet but the chorus of sounds you hear can be an interesting mix of the mating calls of the peacocks to the mooing of the cows to the howls of coyotes at night. (And maybe some of our seven kids playing outside ). As a camper on our property, you are welcome to explore the homestead at your leisure and take in the sights and smells of the farm. We also have several ponds that bring in an array of wildlife that can be great for bird watching or maybe even catching a few bluegills. We have a new couple of bald eagles that built a nest in a towering white pine along the shore of the big pond, providing opportunities for eagle sightings and photography. There are multiple trails throughout the property available for hiking as well We are a 1/4 mile from the lake of Shell Lake which has one of the nicest public beaches in northern WI and there are lots of eating and shopping options within a short distance in all directions. We like to say that we live in the country with the convenience of city amenities only a hop skip and a jump away.

A hollowed-out gravel pit, and a couple of hundred feet from the ATV snowmobile trail. Rural setting in northwest Wisconsin. We are a working farm, with portions of the land planted in crops such as hay, corn, and soybeans. We also have a few beef cattle roaming the pastureland. We are located just outside the small town of Jump River. There are bar and grills if you are looking for a quick bite to eat. The "Bottoms Up" also has a small convenience store with gas and diesel pumps. There is access to the Jump River within 1 mile. The Jump River is known for fishing, tubing, and kayaking. There is also a swimming beach area just up the road.
