Your guide to camping in Mill Creek Campground

Overview

Biking

At Mill Creek Watershed, an addition to the Del Norte Coast Redwoods, visitors can find an expansive maze of dirt and gravel roads. A handful of these roads are now designated for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking between 9 am and 5pm. Be wary of the maze, though! We recommend bringing a map, since the trails lack a lot of signage and all look remarkably similar.

Boating

When in Del Norte Coast Redwoods park, the opportunity to go boating is never far-fetched. The park is not far from several waterways that allow anything from rafts to speed boats. Onward, skipper!

Fishing

Right next to Mill Creek Campground is the Klamath River. The fishing grounds near this area are popular due to the large population of salmon ripe for the reeling each season. Fishing spots here are often crowded, so make sure to claim a spot early!

Horseback riding

Near Del Norte Coast Redwoods park, visitors have the option to break out their kayak. The Klamath River offerS mostly stage III rapids and one stage IV rapid. Although this type of trek isn’t for beginners, it can be one hell of a ride for those with a little experience under their belt!

Paddling

Not far away from Del Norte Coast Redwoods Park is Crescent City, with beaches for playing in the wind. South Beach is a great spot for kiteboarding. Fifty degree water temperatures are fairly common for this part of the Pacific, so we recommend a wetsuit no matter the season (unless you can rock the goosebump look).

Surfing

Closeby to Del Norte Coast Redwoods park is South Beach, which is the ideal stop for some local surf. The beach has a pretty standard break with a few sandbars and is mainly great because it faces southwest (meaning the winds blow sideshore, not onshore). Hang loose!

Wildlife watching

The lush landscape of this park means it is a great habitat for a variety of wildlife. Wildlife watchers and animal lovers can keep their eyes out for mountain lion, coyotes, elk or black bears. Snakes and lizards slither on the ground while in the sky, visitors might catch a glimpse of northern spotted owls, marbled murrelets, steller’s jays and hawks.
