Looking to bag a new peak this camping season? Make the tiny Shannon Campground your basecamp and hoof it up to the top of Heliograph Peak. At 10,022 feet, you’ll be rewarded with the most spectacular views in southeastern Arizona. The campsites are secluded, spacious, and shaded by tall fir and spruce trees. Be sure to keep your garbage and your grub in the provided bear lockers. This is prime bear habitat. You’ll also chance glimpsing desert fox, mountain lions, coyote, jackrabbit, lizards, and lots of birds.
