Awesome experience. It was our kids first time camping. They loved the animals and learning how to work with the mini horses. Janice and Jaden are phenomenal hosts and teachers.

Best camping trip

Everything went as expected. We wanted to disconnect and pretty much live off grid for a camping trip. While we did have phone service which was still a plus. We stayed in lake view cabin. No electric no modern anything. It is a hike up hill to that cabin. They say 5 min. I'm a older over weight lady so it took me a bit longer but my 17 year old ran up carrying stuff so definitely not to hard. Very peaceful and we do plan to return. We got to see a momma bear and 2 cubs about 2 miles from where we stayed so that was exciting too. Just remember your going to the mountains it is possible to see bears so be aware of your surroundings. But we slept with the windows and door open and had no problem at all.

Janice was so nice and very accommodating! We stayed at the same site with the shelter up in the hill. Primitive campsite and very private which we loved. Had fires both in the evening and in the morning. The animal life was wonderful! My 6 and 8 year old little boys loved seeing the animals roam around. Great stay!

Where to begin? Our whole experience was just amazing!! Janice is an amazing host that gives you all info upfront and what you can expect and what she expects from you! I took myself and my 3 littles ages 8,5,and 3 we stayed from wed and left sat! Well I tell you my kids loved it I mean they cried when it was time to leave and already want to book it again! The animals are so friendly they loved playing and help take care of them 2 a day! We did the mini workshop and the horse workshop and the 2 oldest learned so much and had a blast! Ms.Jayden and ms. Janice are wonderful and patient. The kids fished and caught 6 blue gill to which I cleaned and cooked and ate! The views from the primitive cabin are amazing! It is exactly as described so I HIGHLY recommend backing light! There is a hike but so worth it! My kids are electronic kids(as are most) but never asked for them never cried for TV or power there is so much to do and wore them out each day! I highly recommend getting back to the basics it truly is an amazing experience! Thank you Ms. Janice for opening your ranch! Thank you Ms. Jayden for how wonderful you are with littles and sharing your knowledge and teaching them about horses and how to ride! Thank you both for your patients in letting them help feed twice a day they will forever cherish our time there and haven't stopped talking about it to everybody that will listen! We can't wait to come back!

We had a great experience ! Spot was nice and secluded and exactly as pictured. Really enjoyed meeting Janice and seeing all her animals. Wish we could have stayed two nights and really explored the property.

Quiet Little Slice of Heaven

We loved everything about Janice's property. It's a short drive from Great Smokey Mountains National Park with a very convenient location. Cute, quiet Townsend is nearby if you need a restaurant or grocery store. The property itself is also beautiful, with dozens of different little animals and miles of hand-dug trails. We enjoyed exploring and had great privacy even with other guests and Janice on the property. There's plenty of space! We also really appreciated the accommodations at Luke's Cabin. It's simple but tidy and had everything we needed for the week - a working kitchen, a full bathroom, pretty comfy bed, and small dining and living area. We even got to use a VCR and VHS tapes for the first time since the '90s! ;) No WiFi but that's exactly what we wanted. We would definitely visit again! We had a wonderful time.

Quite remote cabin in woods

The cabin was very quaint. Bed was very comfortable. AC worked great. Was a little climb from parking to cabin. Very quiet in beautiful wooded area.

Janice’s land was so amazing! We were surrounded by so much nature and animals! Perfect place to unplug and be grounded with my sister and mom. Janice was so hospitable and her cabin is so lovely! I hope to come back again and will definitely recommend her place to my friends and family.

Great property, lots of animals

The cabin was excellent! It had all the amenities we needed. It was great seeing the animals wandering around the property and getting to pet and feed them. There were some nice hiking trails of varying difficulty around the property. We would definitely come back!

Amazing property that Janice has worked over the years. There is so much to explore, its very peaceful and quiet. No need to wander off the property unless you need groceries. Theres plenty to see and do on the ranch. Janice is very inviting and knowledgeable.

It was like taking a step back in time escaping the world for a bit! Beautiful property and various hikes! My 2 girls (11 & 13) absolutely loved all the animals!! They enjoyed feeding them and naming all the bunnies! Janice and Jayden were so very kind and patient while teaching us. Our favorite was the trail ride with the horses!

Wish we had more time- so lovely.

A truly beautiful escape into the woods. The cabin is perfect. It has everything as she describes and a little more. It was a chilly night but the fire outside and the warmth of the cabin made it a comfortable stay and relaxing stay. We hope to come back again to enjoy more time exploring the property. All of the animals are so sweet to visit too. Thank you so much Janice.

Luke Cabin is great

Lukes cabin really grows on you. This is rustic but the cabin is charming: great water, the kitchen gets the job done, nice bathroom, and very relaxing. My 13-year boy love riding on the horse, and hanging with the farm animals, and most especially the cats. The wifi didn’t work at all, so made planning trips hard, but I got used to it. Would definitely go back.

We loved the accommodation and all the animals! A great experience. It was very rainy so dry firewood would be a help. Though it did not stop us from having an incredible experience. Kids really had fun with the animals and the chores!

Wonderful camping and beautiful ranch in the Smokies 🏔️ Janice was an absolute pleasure and made things easy and fun. The animals are all so sweet and precious. We enjoyed getting away for a couple days and being in nature.

This was a fantastic experience. Top marks. Our group included two grandparents, two parents and four kids. As grandparents we claimed the Pioneer Room. Very comfortable. Kids were happy in Luke's Cabin. Janice lets you help feed the livestock twice a day. Better than any petting zoo. Remember to bring apples, carrots, and watermelon rind for the livestock and hot dogs for the cats which visit the cabin. .

Luke's Cabin was a charming, rustic, private, retreat that provided a quiet and relaxing stay. We thoroughly enjoyed walking the grounds and meeting all the animals at the ranch. Our highlight was stoking a warm fire at night, having a chilled bottle of white wine, and listening to the sounds of nothing but nature. I can't speak highly enough about Janice and her kindness. She was easy to communicate with and was proactive in making sure we were all set for our stay. I highly recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat nestled close to the Smokys.

Jan is a TERRIFIC host, she was so kind to host us (amidst our very last notice) to her beautiful ranch. She gave us a tour to her land and allowed us to feed her horses, bunnies, chickens and goats. I highly recommend her property to anyone looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Please give Jan sometime in advance before your trip.

Restorative stay for animal lovers

Janice, her team, the animals they care for, and the land they have lovingly stewarded for 40 years created such a beautiful, restorative, and healing container for our weekend. We came to celebrate my birthday with a getaway into the woods and finding Janice's place (which happens to be a short <30 min drive into the Townsend entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains) was such a delight. We got to help feed the animals and I feel lucky to have done the 3 hour horsemanship clinic with Janice and Jayden! We hope to come back at some point and cannot recommend it enough. Our stay in the Cowboy Hideout was lovely - it had everything we needed!
