This 140-acre property is an old farmstead last farmed in the 1950's. It lies on top of the Allegheny Plateau region of NW Pennsylvania and is mostly hardwood forest today. It is surrounded by thousands of acres of private forestland and is very secluded. Our goal is to provide a private and secluded yet accessible camping experience where you will most likely see more deer than people. AANR friendly. The skies are dark at night and the sounds of nature will surround you. Campsite 1 is near where the farmhouse and barn once stood. The site is shaded by large, old maples that once shaded the farmhouse. Old fields surround the farmstead, but the woods are a short walk away. It is the most popular campsite with a fire ring, picnic table and port-a-potty available. Campsite 2 is on the other side of the property. There is a fire ring but no picnic table or toilet facilities. Both sites easily accommodate anything from tents to RV's. Each site has a separate, gated, gravel road access. These are the only 2 campsites on the property and they are far enough apart (1/4 mile) to avoid any contact should both sites be occupied. There is a 2-mile loop hiking trail on the property that traverses a variety of habitats which are home to many animals and birds. The trail is well maintained and mowed. The terrain is flat to gentle slopes. The 1/2-mile Narnia Loop trail weaves through a young spruce forest like a maze. It is so cool, literally, even on the hottest days. The Allegheny River is about 10 miles away, near Tidioute, PA, and has excellent paddling and fishing. Titusville, PA is about 15 miles away and is home to Oil Creek State Park which has great trout fishing and an excellent paved bike/hike trail and Drake Well Museum site of the first oil well ever drilled. Finally, you will be on the doorstep to the Allegheny National Forest with all the outdoor recreation it has to offer. We hope you enjoy the peace and quiet of nature on our property as much as we have. If you are curious about more details of the history and management of the property, please ask your host, Dave Trimpey, and he will be glad to share his knowledge of the land. Learn more about this land: The property was a family farm from the late 1800's to the mid-1950's. Aerial photos of the 1940s and 1950s show much of the surrounding area was being farmed for crops and dairy cattle. Agricultural farming ended around 1956 and the farmer, Mr. Matkovich, planted acorns in many of the fields. An observant hiker may notice rows of red oak trees today in former fields which are now forests. In the 1970s the property was acquired by Lester Noll. He planted some of the remaining fields with spruce and fir for Christmas trees. The old farmhouse was still standing until it burned down in 1975. Mr. Noll sold the property to Dave and Rhonda Trimpey, your hosts, in 1992. We continued and expanded the Christmas tree business for 20 years and one point having nearly 6,000 Christmas trees growing in the fields around campsite 1. The Christmas tree part of the business ended in 2014 and management of the land now focuses on timber and wildlife. We have always used the property for personal recreation - primarily hunting, hiking and camping - and decided to open it up for others to enjoy by camping through Hipcamp in 2020.

Peace and quiet

Great location and super-friendly host. We loved the peace and quiet and the wide open skies. There was a bit of poison ivy in the hiking trails so be careful but the trails were broad, nicely mowed and marked out. Thanks for a great stay!

Camping

This was a great experience for my dog and I! Dave was wonderful at communicating with me before my stay and giving me accurate directions/instructions. I ended up needing a jump on my car in the morning and he came out and gave me a hand. I have Verizon and did have signal here. The area is great, I stayed at site 1. Would definitely come back again!

Look no further!

This is by far the most beautiful site I’ve stayed at. It was so easy to get to, the hosts met you to walk through the site, you can pull right up to the site and unpack. We saw a momma deer and her baby right before dark. My dog had a blast exploring the land and got to stretch his legs after a long day or driving. I highly recommend this site. The fire was right on site and only $10 additional! This is a must stop site!

Site 2 - Chappel Hill Tree Farm

Beautiful peaceful property. Plenty of flat gravel parking for our 35 foot motor home. Great campsite with fire ring and picnic table. Also had porta Jon that we didn’t need to use but great for tent campers. Very cool 2 mile walking path thru his perfectly managed wood lots. Dave was a great host who met us there and welcomed us. Great communication before the camp. And loved it being pet friendly so our dogs could enjoy it too

Site 1 - Chappel Hill Tree Farm

Quiet, Peaceful & Secluded

Dave's place was great! There is plenty of space for privacy on the site. Site 1 had a spot to pull your car up, a couple of stumps to sit around a fire, and a fire pit. I had service there the whole time which was helpful when setting up directions and next camp spots on the way out. Dave was very hospitable and made sure I didn't have any needs or questions before he left. He also left a bin with me that had information about stuff to do in the area. The GPS took me part way there and then all I had to do was keep driving to the end of the road, passed the old truck, camper and a white house to your left to get to the gate to the tree farm. The highlight, for me, was the hiking trail. It was very clearly marked and had a lot of variety but was not too physically demanding. If you start the hike over by site 1, be prepared for a treat at the end of the hike. It truly was beautiful and peaceful. I would recommend Dave's campsite for a secluded, peaceful and nature-filled stay.

Dave was a wonderful host! Site 1 was gorgeous - picnic table, fire ring, and two stumps as chairs. Very private, great star gazing. The site has just the right about of shade to stay cool on hot days.

The best kind of “campground” for those that like to boondock or set up a tent! No sardine camping here, only 2 sites separated by acres of trees. Enjoy nature, trails, and stars on clear nights. Dave is friendly and as attentive as you need him to be. Great host for a great way to escape from the busyness of every day life.

Perfect Fall Trip

Perfection. I honestly cannot think what could have been better. Dave, the host, greeted us upon arrival and made sure we were all set. His site had unexpected small touches like a solar powered light attached to an old tree stump to help you get your bearings in the dark of night. We felt like we had the world to ourselves and had such a delightful time walking the path around his property. We are already talking about the next time we will visit. Truly wonderful!

Fall leaf peeping trip.

Site was great and level for a pop-up. Sitting out near young tree plantings drinking morning coffee...flock of bluebirds 20-30 fly in and start feasting on bugs. Probably gathering to migrate. The 2 mile loop trail is great.

This was the best campsite I've been too so far. Very private, nice picnic table, free fire wood, and a gravel pad to park on. There is a 2 mile hiking trail that weaves through the forest as well. Dave was a great host and offered information on the area so we were aware of all things that were close by to do. Highly recommend this place.
