MAJU is a scenic glamping site offering an array of rustic hospitality and event experiences, carving the way to pioneer ‘something unique’ for guests to enjoy. The founders conjured up this bohemian haven by finding a gap in the market for block patterned canvas bell tents, which are designed in-house and kitted out with bespoke designer interiors, (soon to be on sale on their website).
The site is set upon a farm in Axminster in Devon, opposite the famous River Cottage featuring rolling hills and sea views, surrounded by 300-acres of Trinity Hill Woodland. Only 9 minutes’ drive away from the unapologetically quirky town of Lyme Regis, offering a vast choice of fine dining restaurants to eccentric pubs and an array of stunning coastline beaches at reach.
The flagship MAJU glampsite will be welcoming glampers for the second time, after a successful first summer season in 2021, where the site gained 5* google review rating and was fully booked each weekend.
The fire-cracker MAJU 3-course feasts are back this year and this time headed up by Masterchef finalist and former River Cottage teacher, Tom Morrell.
Initially, Tom trained in a variety of renowned establishments from Michelin star restaurants such as, Raymond Blanc, to fine-dining restaurants, including the award-winning Wensleydale Heifer.
Tom made a name for himself, when he battled it out on BBC’s MasterChef and made it to the semi-finals in 2013.
This year, Tom has decided to take his cooking talents to the field, focusing on open-fire cooking, using an array of fantastic local produce in the form of an on-site weekend café at MAJU Glamping. Offerings will consist of weekly Friday night take-out, Saturday night 3-course feasts and weekend brunch.
The 3-course immersive feast takes place under an Indian canopy at the glampsite, overlooking spectacular views of Devon countryside and the south-coast seascape, where guests dine together. This feast will take you on a nomadic journey, where Tom will showcase his outdoor cooking techniques, creating a melting pot of flavours straight from the local larder.
MAJU is hosting its first yoga retreat on the 27th -29th July 2022, fronted by duo Sam Harman (Sam Yoga Bliss) and Fynn McCarthy-Driver (Temple Massage Therapies), offering a magical combination of daily yoga, breathwork workshops, massages and plant-based food by Phoebe Allen from (Apothecary of Earthy Delights).
The fun doesn’t stop here, MAJU also promises local live band bookings, workshops, on-site yoga lessons and life drawing classes for guests (and locals), to book in advance.
It’s only the lucky few who get to stay here though. If you’re one of them, you can choose an unfurnished bell tent or a luxury one with beds, bedding and furnishings. Either way you’ll notice that these bell tents offer a different feel to many; patterned fabrics, scalloped edges and increased headroom are part of their custom-made appeal. There are a couple of flushing loos, hot water showers, and an outdoor washing-up sink.
Co-founder Liberty says, ‘We want to bring the community together, by creating a platform for guests and locals to enjoy’. Running through the months of July and August 2022, MAJU Glamping will be the place to hang out for any guest or local this summer.
