A bell tent site with unique tents and campfire feasts in countryside close to Lyme Regis
It’s no exaggeration to say that we’ve never seen anything like Maju Glamping before. That’s because this boutique site on the Devon-Dorset border is populated with 12 bell tents of the owners’ own design. It’s set up in a field on a farm to welcome glampers for relaxed summer stays in the great outdoors. There's a 300-acre woodland to explore, yoga sessions are available to book and the weekend crowd can join in with campfire-cooked supper clubs. All this, and the place is less than a ten-minute drive from lovely Lyme Regis. This breezy and somewhat bohemian dream of a campsite has been conjured up by young couple, Liberty and Felix. They love this part of the West Country and they want to show it off. If you book in advance, you can enjoy yoga lessons or life-drawing classes with local practitioners on site and, if you’re here for the weekend, you’ve got a treat in store. Long trestle tables are laid up for sociable Saturday supper clubs with the feast prepared on the fire (make sure you book your place in advance for this). Occasionally, there's chilled music from local musicians too. Maju’s bell tent glamping haven is situated in one of the highest points in Devon, offering views across farmland to the sea on a clear day. You can choose an unfurnished bell tent or a luxury one with beds, bedding and furnishings. Either way you’ll notice that these darker bell tents offer a different feel to many; patterned fabrics, scalloped edges and increased headroom are part of their custom-made appeal. Ultimately, though, despite the luxury tag, this is a fairly simple site. There are a couple of flushing loos, a couple of hot water showers, and an outdoor washing-up sink. The real luxury is in the site’s added extras and its extra-special setting. It neighbours Hugh Fearnley-Whittingtall’s River Cottage HQ and shares the same lovely location. If you want to eat (or learn about) sustainable food, you’ll have to book far in advance but it’s not far to Axminster where the more accessible River Cottage Deli serves seasonal, daily deliciousness just right for a picnic to take to the beach. The closest place to reach Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is also one of the best and most popular parts; Lyme Regis with its cobbled streets, historic harbour arm and choice of beaches. If you can’t decide which one to visit; ask your campsite hosts. There’s nothing like local knowledge and there’s plenty of that here.

Site 5 - Non-electric grass campervan pitch
Not great for families, music was played to the early hours and facilities were not well maintained. Not ideal for morothomes either as no taps or electric hook ups. A good stay for adults looking for a boozy evening with good food.

Boho bell tent camping
We loved our time in our deluxe bell tent, despite the weather! The communal eating area was a god send with the rain. The site was very quiet with only a few pitches full, maybe be busier at weekends. Someone was always around to ask questions .

Maju camping is in a glorious location and the yurt was super cosy. The whole team involved with the camp were wonderful to deal with. And I cannot praise Tom's feast highly enough: exquisite! Thanks all for a great stay for me and my kids.

Perfect Glamping
Libby and Felix have an amazing campsite. The bell tents are beautiful, the views are stunning, there's a big area for ball games, and the three course meal cooked over the fire made an already wonderful stay perfect!

Birthday weekend
A great location and facilities. We loved the dinner on site on Saturday and close by to great restaurants and beaches. The dogs loved it to.
From the host
MAJU is a scenic glamping site offering an array of rustic hospitality and event experiences, carving the way to pioneer ‘something unique’ for guests to enjoy. The founders conjured up this bohemian haven by finding a gap in the market for block patterned canvas bell tents, which are designed in-house and kitted out with bespoke designer interiors, (soon to be on sale on their website). The site is set upon a farm in Axminster in Devon, opposite the famous River Cottage featuring rolling hills and sea views, surrounded by 300-acres of Trinity Hill Woodland. Only 9 minutes’ drive away from the unapologetically quirky town of Lyme Regis, offering a vast choice of fine dining restaurants to eccentric pubs and an array of stunning coastline beaches at reach. The flagship MAJU glampsite will be welcoming glampers for the second time, after a successful first summer season in 2021, where the site gained 5* google review rating and was fully booked each weekend. The fire-cracker MAJU 3-course feasts are back this year and this time headed up by Masterchef finalist and former River Cottage teacher, Tom Morrell. Initially, Tom trained in a variety of renowned establishments from Michelin star restaurants such as, Raymond Blanc, to fine-dining restaurants, including the award-winning Wensleydale Heifer. Tom made a name for himself, when he battled it out on BBC’s MasterChef and made it to the semi-finals in 2013. This year, Tom has decided to take his cooking talents to the field, focusing on open-fire cooking, using an array of fantastic local produce in the form of an on-site weekend café at MAJU Glamping. Offerings will consist of weekly Friday night take-out, Saturday night 3-course feasts and weekend brunch. The 3-course immersive feast takes place under an Indian canopy at the glampsite, overlooking spectacular views of Devon countryside and the south-coast seascape, where guests dine together. This feast will take you on a nomadic journey, where Tom will showcase his outdoor cooking techniques, creating a melting pot of flavours straight from the local larder. MAJU is hosting its first yoga retreat on the 27th -29th July 2022, fronted by duo Sam Harman (Sam Yoga Bliss) and Fynn McCarthy-Driver (Temple Massage Therapies), offering a magical combination of daily yoga, breathwork workshops, massages and plant-based food by Phoebe Allen from (Apothecary of Earthy Delights). The fun doesn’t stop here, MAJU also promises local live band bookings, workshops, on-site yoga lessons and life drawing classes for guests (and locals), to book in advance. It’s only the lucky few who get to stay here though. If you’re one of them, you can choose an unfurnished bell tent or a luxury one with beds, bedding and furnishings. Either way you’ll notice that these bell tents offer a different feel to many; patterned fabrics, scalloped edges and increased headroom are part of their custom-made appeal. There are a couple of flushing loos, hot water showers, and an outdoor washing-up sink. Co-founder Liberty says, ‘We want to bring the community together, by creating a platform for guests and locals to enjoy’. Running through the months of July and August 2022, MAJU Glamping will be the place to hang out for any guest or local this summer.
