If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see at least one of the amazing sunsets at Red Sky at Night Campsite near Monmouth – but if you don’t, there’s mighty compensation in the shape of the spectacular views from just about everywhere on the site. And of course, on clear nights, the night skies are diamond-bright with stars - we are under one of Wales' Dark Sky Reserves!
This family-run camping field on a livestock farm is managed on very laidback lines. Pitch up wherever you like and feel free to park by your tent (weather permitting). Raised campfires are allowed and you can hire firepits and grills (the owners sell local eggs & sausages) and buy bags of wood & kindling. You can bring your dogs too (take them for walks in the adjoining woods) but just be sure to keep them on a lead.
Kids are certainly carefully looked after here. Get a fact sheet on arrival and join mini-campers in wildlife hunts through the trees, looking out all the while for buzzards and red kites. Round and about the site, your offspring can entertain themselves on rope swings, making dens and following a mini-tractor course across the camping field. There’s also a football pitch.
Wild camping this may be (there’s no electricity on site, please note) but there are two nicely designed compost loos and a covered sink areas with fresh water tap. So bring your guitar, light that fire, break out the barbecue and enjoy the chilled vibe.

Brilliant site if you want minimal and peaceful, with great views. Chloe was super helpful and fast to respond, and attention to detail on the site is impressive (I loved the washing up shed!)

brilliant campsite went for 2 nights, was ment to be 3 but had no clothes left, but anything you needed chloe was there within the hour, peaceful feild with brilliant views, brilliant for dogs that are well behaved. The kids loved all the stuff they could do including tree swings,playground and the mud kitchen, the forest walk is so lovely to walk through brilliant campsite would recomend only 2-3 days just coz theres no showers but still a very good campsite, would defuntely go again

We loved camping in Katharine’s farm land! What an idyllic place, we practically had the whole field to ourselves, only shared with one other couple for one night. If you are looking for back to basics camping, with rural feeling, beautiful nature and peace - this is the place! Katherine and her partner were so lovely and accommodating, we really felt like at home. Enjoyed nice campfires at night, and beautiful starry skies. Our daughter loved seeing the chicken, sheep and horsies whom grazed the fields and area. Hereford is just a stone throws away and so many beautiful walks, villages and National Trust properties to visit nearby. Thank you so much!

Great site, big pitches and lovely view. Chloe and her boys were very welcoming, she had obviously put alot of time and thought into keeping the kids on site happy with a wooden climbing frame and ride-on tractors, wish I'd had my grandson with me, he would of loved it.

Excellent two nights at Red Sky Campsite, lovely large pitch for me and Walter the Westie. Lucky enough to have a clear sky, watched the sundown and waited for the night sky to come alive. Will definitely be returning with the grandkids in a few weeks. I will leave another review soon.

We loved staying on Jamie's campsite. Jamie and Sylvie are very friendly and helpful hosts. The pitches are spacious and all have wonderful views. The facilities are brand new and very clean. It's comfortable to have a shelter to wash the dishes and to recharge mobile phones etc. This campsite is recommended to everyone who loves eco-friendly camping with good facilities.

Where do I start?
This site is simply awesome.
I’ve stayed in loads of quiet off grid sites and I can’t believe that I stumbled across this one. Perfect would be a complete and utter understatement.
Firstly, this site is in a beautiful place, stunning countryside everywhere, the best the Llyn peninsula can offer. The fields are open but cleverly sectioned so you can pick your spot and be ensured space and tranquility.
You feel like you wild camping and away from those formal plotted sites but still have the availability to second to none facilities of showers and eco friendly toilets and water. The site unbelievably boasts a large undercover dishwashing and seating area with tables and benches which me and my son played cards on and made unforgettable memories.
There are scattered potable water taps on site and the water tastes amazing.
If you seek perfect silence in a truly beautiful location you won’t find anything better than here.
There is no light pollution and on my first night the milky way was clearly visible right above me and I’ve never seen so many stars ever since my travels in Namibia. (Insulating clouds on my second night).
This site is spotlessly clean and well cared and loved by Jamie and his wife. Jamie was the perfect host, there if you needed anything but made you feel welcome and valued as a guest on his site. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Fire wood with fire pits for a small fee were also available

A lovely back to basics campsite, the views are beautiful. The plots are large and spaced out well. The kids loved the mud kitchen and tractors.
We hired a fire pit and bought wood which was a lovely addition to the eve.
The sawdust loos were done up lovely too.

Gorgeous campsite with beautiful views, very accommodating for the dog and close to all the mountains we wanted to go up and a short drive to either Abergavenny or Monmouth.
Toilets were very good and well kept, with a sheltered sink area next to them.
