South Town Camping opened for a month in 2018 to see how guests would take to its private 10-pitch site. Tucked away in North Devon's Arlington estate, amid twenty-plus miles of footpaths and bridleways, this is a campsite designed by committed campers and it shows.The grass pitches are spacious, with paths leading to them mown into the wildflower meadows, all set within six acres kept peaceful (and safe for the kids!) by the absence of cars — simply roll your belongings to your tent with the help of a super-sized wheelbarrow. At the centre of the camping fields hay meadows are left to grow throughout the summer, providing an almost-wild aesthetic befitting of the sprawling surrounding woodland of which you'll enjoy uninterrupted views. Your hosts take care of 200 acres of this estate, having National Trust tenancy of South Town and managing its grasslands, which remain unimproved to maintain the unique biodiversity of the region. There is no running water in the hut but access to it is a short walk. Also the shower/ toilet block is about 20 meters from the hut.
The little log burner provides enough heat to heat the hut in winter or as an additional heat source on cool summer nights making it the ideal holiday no matter what time of year. If it’s spring, summer or the depths of winter you’re sure to have a wonderful stay with us.
There’s so much to do here… You can get out into the countryside or help with the animals on the farm. Or, if you just want to take it easy, you can do absolutely nothing, take advantage of the blissful peace and quiet and relax.

We booked a weekend stay with our daughter and it was lovely, very peaceful and calm. She loved feeding the pigs! The hot tub stays hot for a long time once you’ve got it going so worth firing it up nice abs early. The site owners were always around and really helpful too.

Absolutely magical stay! From the moment we arrived at Steam and Stars, everything was perfect. The hot tub was preheated and ready for us, which was very much needed after the Friday traffic. Nothing was too much trouble for our wonderful hosts, who truly went above and beyond. Our dogs were safe and free to roam, which made the stay even more relaxing. The property was spotless, with incredible attention to detail. We were delighted by the thoughtful extras, like cookies and cake on arrival. The facilities were easy to access and had everything we needed for a comfortable break. The views were stunning — we were lucky enough to see a steam train pass by, adding to the charm! Amazing wildlife all around made it feel like a true retreat. We can’t thank the hosts enough for their hospitality. A fantastic experience that we’ll definitely be recommending! Communication was brilliant throughout!

We love staying at this shepherds hut. Ian was on hand to help if needed. Perfect for a couple get away. We enjoyed ice cream at the beach and watching the sun go down. The hut has everything you need for a coastal escape!

From.the moment we met the hosts at the site entrance, to the moment we left, what a unforgettable stay. Hosts ran us through everything we needed to know about the cabin and surrounding areas. My partner and I couldn't of picked a better place than here to relax and unwind. Waking up to Deer surrounding the cabin. This places is secluded and a perfect way to escape day to day life.

Weekend Trip to The Exmoor Woodland Escape
Had the most amazing weekend at the pleasant pheasant, stunning views, completely hidden away & secluded for ultimate privacy.
We had the most enjoyable time and Alison & her husband were the perfect host, even had the cabin log fire going to have it all warm and cozy on our arrival as well as the hot tub which was AMAZING!.
Will definitely be returning again soon!! Everything about our stay was 10/10!

Nicky and her son were very friendly and helpful.
Showed us around and left us to it but when I did need them they were a phone call away and very helpful.
Cabin was beautiful and so peaceful.
We stayed for two nights. Walked to the reservoir which was worth it.

The Shepard’s hut was amazing, immaculately presented inside, with the log burners lit ready for us on arrival! The views were beautiful with many walks in the surrounding area. We were met on arrival and shown down to our lodge and helped with our bags. The hosts couldn’t have been more helpful during our stay, we will definitely be back!

2 nights at The Exmoor Woodland Escape
We had a wonderful stay at the Pleasant Pheasant. It’s a beautiful and luxurious shepherds hut perfectly located on a wooded Exmoor hillside. The wood fired hot tub was steaming hot on arrival and totally private.

Rhossili Bay
Rated one of the best beaches in the UK, Rhossili Beach is a 3-mile expanse of sand ideal for sunbathing, strolling, or avoiding altogether in favour of sea-based watersports. You can also reach Worm’s Head from Rhossili Beach, a promontory that becomes an inaccessible island during high tide, as well as paraglide from Rhossili Downs. When it comes to camping, you’ll find plenty of places to pitch your tent along the coast.
Swansea
Though the Gower Peninsula is technically situated within Swansea, Wales’ second city is also an excellent base within the region which offers proximity to wider South Wales, including the Valleys, Brecon Beacons, and Wye Valley, as well as access to several camping stores. However, given Swansea’s urban sprawl, campsites and motorhome parks with wifi access are situated on the outskirts of the city.
Mumbles
Mumbles, an unusually named seaside town known for the “Mumbles Mile” of pubs and its 19th-century pier, is situated on the eastern edge of the Gower Peninsula. A great place to set up camp if you love beaches, Mumbles is also a convenient spot to start the Gower Coastal Path and is situated close to a couple of family-run caravan parks and campsites, including Nicholaston.

Rhossili Beach, Oxwich Bay, and Three Cliffs Bay are all part of the Gower Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a protected area crisscrossed by footpaths, dotted with wildlife trust reserves, and dense with protected woodland which is a haven for walking and birdwatching. The Gower Coast Path also runs the length of the AONB coastline, while caravan parks and campsites typically offer sea views, electric hook-ups, and other amenities.
