During the summer our site is a popular spot for families and campers visiting nearby Camber Sands sandy beach and year round we welcome all different types of campervan, motorhome and caravan. We look forward to welcome you to our little slice of paradise. Please note our strict 'no group' policy - we only accept single families, single couple and single campers. No more than 2 adults in any group, even on separate pitches. Please bring your acoustic guitar or similar but, as this is a quiet site, please no radios, stereos or videos unless you're using headphones. The birdsong here is incredible by the way! Very wet weather and winter – please note in the off-season, and if very wet, the camping field is closed to vehicles, replaced instead by semi-hardstanding areas or our summer car-park area. Facilities are open but please be prepared for the vagaries of the weather, leaves, puddles and mud. To change pitch please let us know asap so that we can try if possible to find you another. The camping field is fairly big and basically bare (as can be seen on the pictures). Everything went as expected, toilets and showers were functional (even though not the cleanest and prettiest but that is to be expected from a camp of this size I suppose). Since the field is so big, it was quite windy without anything to break the winds but otherwise all good.

We loved visiting Dogwood. We visited on a whim one Sunday evening in early September, needing a break from the city. We were pleased to be welcomed warmly by Phil, who was accommodating and available, despite the random timing ! We had the site to ourselves, and loved the peace and quiet - only accompanied by the animals who were roaming the site. The toilet and shower facilities were close by and clean, well maintained for the end of season, beginning of off-season. The site is well positioned and sign posted, a short walk from two pubs and a small shop, easily drivable into Rye, Hastings or Camber for whatever your stay is for!

Lovely sheltered meadow with 6 or 7 bell tents nicely spaced out. You can have basic or comfort tent and a variety of extras can be provided by Kelly on request. Excellent shower/loo facilities cleverly sited in a converted horsebox beside a little kitchen area - all with loads of instant hot water. Each tent has its own area for dining/camp fires but there is also a communal campfire and bbq. Set in the heart of the countryside but within a 5/10 min drive of some pubs, Hastings and the coast, with something for everyone in the surrounding area. We loved it!! Our stay at Graham's cabin was great. As advertised, the cabin does not have bedding, so bring your own! The cabin was basic but enough for a good night's sleep. The facilities were good. While the logistics of getting booked in are a little complicated, Graham was incredibly caring in ensuring we found our way to the cabin at night. He went the 'extra mile' to ensure we would have a good stay. It all worked fine. The location is great. Right on the river, next to the lock. And a great little canteen serving lovely food with outdoor seating. I recommended this as a good cheap place to stay.

We had a brilliant time camping in Sussex, and Miles’ land was perfectly located to help us enjoy our time exploring the Long Man of Wilmington and Eastbourne. Just wish we could’ve stayed longer! Even though it’s close to the A27, you barely notice the road is there, it was so quiet! We only saw one other camper on site (during a bank holiday). Views were fantastic. Recommend!

On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Mark, Geraldine's brother, who gave us directions to our hut (Perch). He followed us up, and made sure we knew where everything was in the hut, he had the fridge stocked with fresh milk, eggs, fruit juice, there was tea, coffee, sugar, even ketchup! Cooking oil... Tinfoil.... Everything we needed was there! The whole hut was beautiful clean and neat, and everything was very well thought of and planned out. The views were beautiful, no sound of passing traffic, lots of bird life, and the hut felt very private. My partner and I fished into the late evening and started early 5h30am the next morning. Mark came to our hut as agreed 10am punctually to deliver warm crispy croissants and bread rolls, with an assortment of jams and honey, we felt so spoilt! We felt the safety of knowing our hosts were nearby, with such kind hearts and warm smiles, ready to assist or help us in any way, but never on top of us. We broke a Champaign flute, and they replaced it right away. We ordered beef burger patties, sausages and bacon, a bbq charcoal pack and firewood to sit around the outside fire under the stars one night. The meat was so delicious we ordered more to take away with us. The fishing was great, we caught loads of fish. We could sit anywhere around either of the two fishing lakes. The farm is huge and we were welcome to walk the grounds and possibly see some deer. The hut was lovely and warm on arrival with the heater on. Definitely will be back.

Planned a last minute camp, and glad I chose this campsite. The check in was straightforward and the instructions and information was clear. Plenty of space to choose your pitch, toilets are very clean and had all the amenities I needed.

Notable campgrounds

Best for country views: The Sunny Field has off-grid tent pitches, campervan sites, and glamping in bell tents, amid miles of open countryside. It’s a 10-minute drive from the reserve.
Best for budget campers: Flying Horse Inn is a country pub just west of the reserve and offers free overnight campervan parking for evening diners.
Best for escaping the crowds: Sunnyside Farm has plenty of grass and hardstanding pitches, optional electric hook-ups, and tranquil surroundings. It’s a 20-min drive away.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Kent Downs campsites and caravan sites can book up quickly, especially in July and August, and during school holidays. Plan up to six months in advance for popular sites or those with limited pitching.
You will need to pay a deposit to secure your campsite reservation; some sites ask for the full payment in advance.
Be sure to check seasonal opening and closing dates. Many campsites open from March through October, while others stay open year-round.

When to go

The most pleasant weather for camping is from April through September, and this is the main hiking season in the Kent Downs. Wildflowers bloom throughout this period, but come in late spring to admire them at their most colourful. Sites like the Devil’s Kneading Trough fill up with day-trippers throughout July and August, so make an early start to get a jump on the crowds or opt for a weekday visit in the off-season to enjoy the view to yourself.

Know before you go

Wye National Nature Reserve is located in the Kent Downs AONB, about a 20-minute drive from Ashford. Trains from London take about an hour to reach Wye train station, just 2 miles from the reserve.
Free parking is available at the Wye Nature Reserve car park along Coldharbour Lane.
Camping is not possible in the reserve itself, and wild camping is not permitted throughout the Kent Downs AONB.
The reserve has a restaurant, but for public restrooms or to purchase picnic supplies, head to Wye village.
