Weekend Trip to Over-the-Moon Luxury Shepherds Hut

We had the most wonderful stay at this gorgeous shepherds hut. Everything about our visit was just perfect. The setting was so peaceful and private and dreamy, such a beautiful little escape to relax and switch off. The hut itself was cosy, spotless, and had everything we could possibly need, you can really tell how much care and thought has gone into it. The hosts were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made the whole experience feel even more special. Honestly, there is nothing we would change. We left feeling so happy and refreshed and would absolutely love to come back again. Could not recommend it more 💖

Weekend Trip to The Peacock Shepherds Hut

Absolutely delightful place!! We arrived in the pitch black but found it very easily. The hut was beautifully furnished, when we woke this complemented the absolutely breathtaking views on what was a very cold winter morning but the hut was very warm and cosy. I will 100% recommend this stay and will most likely be returning for a longer stay to take in some more of the Welsh countryside.

The hut was lovely and had everything that we need for weekend getaway. The land was so peaceful and there were alpacas nearby. We arrived late a night and took the wrong turn at first but once we got on the right path it was easy to find. Would recommend if you're looking for quiet time off.

Lovely little weekend stay in this beautiful hut kitted with everything you would need. So peaceful, we loved waking up to the farm views and having a warm coffee in the cosy bed with the fire on ❤️☺️ There's lots of warm pubs with great food an easy walk away, a shop just 4 mins drink and loads to do nearby if you'd like to venture further.

The Peacock Shepherds Hut was amazing. The views are incredible and the hut was really comfortable and well thought out from the lovely Peacock details to underfloor heating. The facilities provided everything I needed to enjoy a peaceful break. Fantastic place to relax and reset listening to birds and enjoying the roaming peacocks and wandering down to see the Alpacas. Carol makes you feel so welcome. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends.

We had the best time in the Shepherd's Huts - it's such a magical place to stay, with beautiful views over the fields and even it's own little woodland walk. We spent two nights just us and our son, then my cousins pitched a tent on the third night. It was so peaceful to be surrounded by nature and have the place to ourselves. The huts were beautiful and cosy and the beds were comfy too. There was everything we needed to have a camping experience that felt both wild yet easy and with all that we needed. This was a fabulous shepherds hut with every need catered for. The craftsmanship is beautiful and all the equipment and amenities were first class. Beautifully decorated and all the local and interesting information was carefully provided in an easy to access folder. The location is absolutely stunning with lots of outdoor equipment such as seating and bbq and a pizza oven to enjoy in the hot weather. The view is stunning and the surrounding countryside has great walks and places of interest. We will hopefully return.

Enjoyed some fine walks and a super day out in Ruthin. We'd also recommend the Red Lion for a visit. Ruth & Jude were both very helpful and welcoming. I'm sure we'll come back.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the Shepard’s hut is great and in the perfect & private location. Hosts are very friendly and the animals on sight are a fab addition too! We would definitely stay again for a little getaway. The only things I would point out for anyone who doesn’t know the area- it is around 15 minutes each way to the local towns/shops, but this place is in the perfect location if you want to “switch off” and be surrounded by nature. The hut has all of the essential items, such as shower gel, hand soap, fire wood, tea & coffee and salt & pepper. However, my only suggestion is that I personally think that some local produce such as some fresh milk & eggs would go a long way and would elevate the experience massively. In saying this, everything was perfect with our stay😊

Catriona’s shepherds hut is a truly brilliant glamping find! I took my six year old daughter for a two-night stay and we loved it. The hut is so cleverly designed, with everything you need. It was warm and cosy, and the beds were so comfortable. The enclosed garden is great for children, and the visits from beautiful Evie the collie dog were a highlight. We ordered a breakfast hamper too which was excellent. We did a couple of day trips - Eastnor Castle and Warwick Castle. Both very good spots with lots going on for children. My daughter and I loved our adventure - we even had a visit from the tooth fairy while we there! :-) Thank you Catriona for such a lovely stay. We can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!

Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Campsites abound in Shropshire Hills AONB—from private farm campsites with secluded grassy pitches and access to compost toilets to lakefront campsites for tents and caravans that feature drinking water, firepits, and BBQs to dog-friendly safari-style tents with fully-equipped kitchens, heated showers, running water, and private hot tubs. After setting up at a chosen campsite, take the dog for a visit to Carding Mill Valley and Long Mynd for gorgeous panoramic views along excellent walking trails. Or try horseback riding on one of three bridleways, paragliding, canoeing, and wild swimming.

Eryri National Park (Snowdonia National Park)

Stretching from the centre of Wales to the coast, Eryri National Park (also known as Snowdonia National Park) has dozens of different on-site camping options from fully-furnished canvas lodges to glamping in heated camping pods with free wifi to touring parks that offer pitches with full hookups and dump stations. After a great night’s sleep, hike to the highest peak in Wales and England—Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), zip down hills on a mountain bike in Coed y Brenin Forest Park, or head to the glacial-fed Bala Lake for kayaking and swimming.

Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons)

Just over an hour’s drive from Church Stretton is Bannau Brycheiniog National Park in Wales. Snag a spacious bell tent with access to an open-air outdoor kitchen and a nearby river for fishing and swimming at all hours, retreat to a remote countryside campsite with grass pitches and communal pit toilets, or discover wooden camping pods with furnished interiors, TVs, and patios finished with a hot tub—the options are endless. Then, head to the southwest corner of the park known as Waterfall Country and step behind thundering falls, tackle rock climbing routes around Llangorse Lake, or explore the extensive underground network of caves.

When to go

July has the highest number of sunny days in Church Stretton, so campers can’t go wrong with a visit in the peak of summer. June and August also provide warm temperatures that make swimming in Bala Lake delightfully refreshing. Those months do receive a fair amount of rainfall. If drier skies are a top priority, March, April, May, and September are better options. Temperatures start to drop as fall arrives in October, and snowfall is common from December until February, so look for cosy cabins with wood-burning fireplaces or caravan parks with electric hookups during winter camping trips.
