2 nights at Hideaway Hut, Camping cabin.

We absolutely loved our stay! Highlights included the gorgeous bathhouse, cosy and well stocked caravan and taking peaceful walks in the woods. Anna was a helpful and generous host and made us feel so welcome.

Great site and lovely hosts! A very welcoming site for a warm weekend. I hear it can get quite busy though and when wet is prone to flooding. So best to avoid peak or wet times. Amenities were fantastic and the woods and fields were a great bit of nature to surround yourself with. I think they could be clearer on the firepit and firewood buying - we almost didn’t pay as thought it was included but luckily saw the honesty box qr code just in time!

Beautiful location! Would highly recommend! We were a little bit confused on how to get to the site, Chloe was brilliant and sent us through some directions and we found it easily from them. Nice private camping areas with their own firepit and composting toilet. Great for couples or groups of people as there are lots of different pitches offering different unique locations and views. Looking up and seeing the stars above a fire pit, priceless!

3 nights at Cholderton Estate, near Stonehenge

We came for a family birthday getaway at the end of Feb. The hut is private but there is a two person hut reasonably nearby. The Shephards hut has everything you need outside and in, regardless of weather. We had moments eating out in the sun, then a brief hail shower and rainbow in the hot tub. One night was so clear we spent the evening star gazing from the hot tub. There is a farm and wild bird sanctuary nearby so an abundance of wild life throughout the day. Kites, peacocks, buzzards, peasants, deer etc. We did several local walks but the best for the kids was the farm > wood walk, which had a hidden wood swing too. The hosts were quick to help when we needed it and the location was very picturesque. It was a perfect birthday escape. We'd love to come back and see it in the summer!

Weekend Trip to Cattlestone Farm Adult Only

The farm was very easy to get to, and Donna and her husband were extremely communicative and welcoming. The cabin itself was an utter delight and more than I would've expected, both in terms of amenities available, and the quality therein. Very easy to both cook on site and enjoy the farm itself, and to head out into the countryside. Plus the cows were such a special treat to see!

Nicky and her son were very friendly and helpful. Showed us around and left us to it but when I did need them they were a phone call away and very helpful. Cabin was beautiful and so peaceful. We stayed for two nights. Walked to the reservoir which was worth it.

We had a wonderful stay in the beautiful Lapwing Hut. The hut was cosy, clean and well heated so we were very comfy for our whole stay. All the facilities worked well, including the hot tub. We had a lovely stay on Susannah's land, a relaxing city break, we saw muntjac deer, birds of prey, wild rabbits! We loved bubbling away in the hot tub overlooking wintery scenes.

Weekend Trip to Penylan Cider Farm

Beautiful little get away. Lots of lovely little touches that makes it stand out. Very peaceful and I think it would be an out of this world stay in the summer. Would definitely recommend 👌

The Cider Site is a small family run camping site, which made it feel very intimate and homely. The views are great and you feel relaxed and part of nature. We stayed right at the end of the season (the last weekend of October), so it was quiet and the Cider Bar was closed.....but we'll be back another time to sample the home made Cider :). The facilities are good - warm shower, towel rail, toilet. This site is on the border of Hereford and Abergavenny, so perfectly placed to explore either, which we did! Great location! Great find! :)

We had a lovely time staying here. The shepherd's hut was attractive, cosy and well equipped. Because we stayed at the end of October we unfortunately didn't make use of all the outside seating, which would be lovely in summer. So once it gets dark, it is very quiet and isolated, so just be prepared to cosy up inside with books etc. In the daytimes we liked exploring the local villages and some amazing pubs on our bikes.

The Hen's Dens at Orchard Organic Farm is our small and unique site offering three timber tents / glamping pods - The Hen's Dens and six individual camping pitches all set within our organic farm orchards. The three Dens are spaced out in their own quiet and private area of the orchard accessed via a short path from named parking spaces. Inside the three pods is toasty heating, lighting and electric - with a picnic bench outside and space to make up a campfire. You can choose how you`d like to stay, either renting unfurnished and bringing your own beds, or booking a set of camping beds for your trip for an extra fee, so that things are nice and easy. Each den comes with the luxury of your own private lockable bathroom and kitchen area where you can safely keep bits and bobs. Hello, welcome to Gold Hill Glamping, which is based at Allan’s Farm, a working dairy farm and our family home. You are likely to see the cows coming in for milking twice a day. There are our lovely shetland ponies Pixie and Trudie to stroke and and past the time with, they love attention! There are usually fresh farm eggs available to buy if you wish. Wildlife is in abundance here. Deer and hares are regular visitors and different species of owl can be heard hooting behind the glamping fields. We have a lovely bell tent, called Willow Bell which has its own eco- loo and BBQ area with Kadai fire-pit and logs / chairs to sit around the fire. We are excited to be welcoming a spacious Lotus Belle tent to our glamping portfolio from Spring 2021. The Lotus Belle offers all the comfort and spaciousness of a yurt but with the simplicity and ease of a bell tent. Hazel, our Lotus Belle tent, will be situated in a separate, and peaceful location on the farm with its own eco – loo and simple glamping kitchen facilities. Thereby, allowing for visitors to glamp completely separately, but also offering the option for friends and family to stay here together. The tents have a very comfortable double bed, which will be fully furnished for your stay, plus two single futon-style beds (please bring your own bedding for the futons). All crockery, BBQ tools, bedding, a fire pit, seating area and a couple of finishing touches are provided for your stay. Both bell tents also have access to a hot shower, and flushing toilet a short walk away in a converted building in the farmyard. We are also planning a small honesty shop, to buy local sausages, eggs and Barber's cheese which is made from our milk.

Overview

With more than 1,500 hectares of woodlands and heathlands to explore, Wareham Forest provides plenty of opportunities to escape the crowds. Hike the 13-mile Wareham Forest Way through the heart of the forest, or choose from several short walks and circuits such as the Woodlark Trail, a favourite for families. Cyclists won’t want to miss the tree-lined Sika Trail, after which you can picnic among the trees or enjoy lunch at a country pub. The forest is well known for its wildlife, so keep a lookout for Sika deer, rare birds, and sand lizards.

Notable campgrounds

Best for a 5-star camping experience: Wareham Forest Tourist Park has grass pitching for tents and powered hard-standing sites for caravans and motorhomes. There’s also a heated swimming pool and children’s playground on-site and a country pub within walking distance.
Best for caravans and motorhomes: Birchwood Touring Park has a choice of grass, hard-standing, and gravel pitches, all with direct access to the forest trails. Electric hook-ups and TV aerials are available too.
Best for peace and quiet: Wooders Campsite has spacious grass pitches, bell tents for hire, and fire-pits, set on a rural working farm.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Holiday parks and caravan sites can book up quickly, especially in July and August, and during school holidays. Book at least three months in advance if you plan to visit at this time.
You will need to pay a deposit to secure your campsite reservation; some sites ask for the full payment prior to arrival.
Be sure to check seasonal opening and closing dates, which vary by campsite. Some campsites open from Easter through October, while others stay open year-round.

When to go

Summer is peak season in Wareham Forest, and parking can fill up quickly—make an early start to snag a spot. Outdoor activities are possible year-round, but the woodlands are particularly photogenic in the autumn months, with their ever-changing canopy of fall foliage. Wildlife watching is often most rewarding in the early morning and early evening.

Know before you go

Wareham Forest is located in central Dorset, about a 20-minute drive west of Poole. Trains run from Poole to Wareham (a 10-minute journey), from where it’s a half-mile walk to the forest.
There is free parking at Sika Trail, Woolsbarrow, Stroud Bridge, and Sugar Hill, all with direct access to Wareham Forest.
Many trails at Wareham Forest are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
