Weston-super-Mare probably ranks as Somerset's best-known seaside resort. Inland, it's around 20 miles to the underground attractions at Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge and not much further to England's smallest city, Wells, with its disproportionately large cathedral. Alternative and quirky Bristol has plenty of attractions if you fancy a day in the city during your camping and Glamping Holiday and is well within an hour's drive.

With its promenade, seaside hotels and Grand Peir, Wester-super-Mare (or just 'Western') in Somerset has a bucket-and-spade atmosphere but still very much keeps up with the times. The Yeworthy Treehouse is a stunning eco-friendly, off-grid retreat set amongst the tree-tops and above a private lake. The treehouse has a double bed with plenty of comfy cushions and pillows while the log-burning stove means you can stay warm and cosy, even on the colder nights. Logs can be purchased from the owners upon arrival for £5. A kettle can be boiled and basic cooking can be done on a 2 ring gas-fired camp stove, complete with kitchen utensils, pots and pans to rustle up a meal. Fresh water is provided for guests from a bowser. The private, eco-friendly, sawdust toilet is in a separate structure nestled amongst the trees. Please note there is no shower facility and guests will have to bring their own towels. Guests will be met by the owners who will transport you down to the treehouse in a jeep. Guests will have access to the jeep for the duration of their stay. The Yeworthy Treehouse is a perfect getaway for those who want to get back to nature, sleep amongst the stars and enjoy the peace and tranquility that the setting provides. Please note: From 1st October to 1st April each year, the boat will be out of commission and unavailable for guest use. This will be an ongoing seasonal closure each year. This property is for adult guests only. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate anyone under the age of 18.

5 nights at Surf Pods and Camping at Atlantic Farm

Lovely campsite, the pods look like Tellytubby Land! It's a bit of a walk into Bude probably 40mins but the park and ride is almost opposite the site and very reasonable. We stayed in the Tree House, it was comfy and clean. It has a kettle, microwave, toaster, BBQ and fridge which is so convenient. Would recommend taking your usual cooking kit as there are plates, mugs, bowls and glasses but not pots and pans or stove. I might also take a picnic table if you like to sit in the sun as the seating area is shady. No curtains means you need a sleep mask if you like a dark room but I loved waking up to the sight of a blue sky. Would also recommend a torch for going up and down the steps at night.

This traditional British seaside resort is the place for camping and glamping in Somerset if you want sea, sand and all the fun of the fair as well as easy access to some of the county's most popular attractions. This town on the Bristol Channel saw business boom in Victorian times and it has a Grand Pier, bandstand and plenty of elegant buildings to prove it. Times may have moved on and while it's still the beach that's the main attraction, it's also a fabulous place to pitch if you want to visit Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge and the south-west's other treasures.
