Treehouses, lodges, and an Airstream, a mile from South Devon's River Dart.

There’s no roughing it in Dittisham Hideaway, a Devonshire glampsite where couples and families can escape in luxurious treehouses, cosy shepherd's lodges, or a vintage reclaimed American Airstream. Located on the outskirts of Dittisham, a riverside village known as one of the prettiest places to visit in South Devon, the site's secluded nine acres are also only a short drive away from Dartmouth.

Dittisham Hideaway's treehouses are its focal point, tucked away in a wooded valley and elevated for views across the treetops. On sunny days you'll surely spend most of your time on the spacious furnished decking, lazing in the hammock, or taking a dip in the wood-fired hot tub. The kids can be kept occupied with the outdoor table football and chess sets, while the adults can cook up a storm on the barbecue before relaxing on the sun loungers. Inside, the treehouses replicate the feel of a luxury hotel with their underfloor heating, Egyptian cotton bed linen, and en-suite bathrooms with power showers, while a welcome hamper with West Country produce awaits all guests.

Couples can also stay in the Airstream or one of the site's various shepherd's lodges. The former is a vintage trailer built in the '50s, and while it retains its retro charms, it's also been modernised with additions such as a smart TV and sound system, WiFi, and a well-equipped kitchenette that includes all of your necessities. It's also positioned on its own private decking and boasts its own hot tub, along with seating for al fresco dining.

The shepherd's lodges are much larger than you'd see elsewhere – big enough to welcome your four-legged friends – and their position in the wildflower meadow gives you immediate access to a variety of lovely walks, not to mention the various public footpaths that run throughout the local neighbourhood. For further exploration of the area, you're less than a mile away from the River Dart where you can go kayaking or paddleboarding, and at its mouth is the quiet Sugary Cove beach for a day by the sea.

Original American Airstream 1234

Airstream · Sleeps 2
Iconic and distinctively-styled, with highly-polished chrome panels, this curvy American Airstream certainly is to be admired. Built in 1956, this Airstream is an original ‘Sovereign of the Road’ model and epitomises the style of Wally Byam, the founder of Airstream trailers. This particular Airstream number 1234 was owned by a member of Wally Byam’s Caravanners Club, and the original stickers from a 1961 Omaha, Nebraska meeting are still on the windows. Gleaming inside and out, it’s tucked into a secluded corner within the private woodland setting, with lovely far-reaching views of Dartmoor’s rolling hills. The ambience is truly romantic, with only the sound of the stream and the birds to keep you company. The Airstream comfortably accommodates two people and boasts a large outside deck with a dining table and chairs (with a parasol for those sunny afternoons), a barbecue, sun loungers, swing seat, outdoor chess, and an indulgent outdoor Oak Japanese wood-fired spa bath. The furnishings are totally in-keeping with the retro feel, but we’ve ensured that all mod-cons are provided. The Airstream is fitted with smart TV, sound system, Wi-fi, combination oven, induction hob, fridge, ice box, dishwasher, power shower, and under-floor heating. Enjoy the burnt orange leather seats in the sitting-area whilst you cosy up with your favourite tipple. Dine inside the warmth of the Airstream or al fresco in mild weathers. The bedroom is gorgeous, with lovely Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy towels and lots of retro fittings, clothes storage, hairdryer and a generous bathroom. Imagine, lazing in the swing seat, bathed in the fresh Devon air and soaked in warm sun. You may be lucky enough to spot the iridescent wings of the resident dragonflies and butterflies, who put on rather a splendid show. Generous welcome hamper provided with local treats and your first large basket of logs are provided complimentary. Additional bags of logs £20.00/sack. Electric Vehicle charging points charged at £25.00 per charge. Private parking space next to the Airstream.
