Glamping near Bude, with eye-catching eco-pods, a staggering treehouse for couples and traditional tent camping

Set within easy reach of Bude's pumping surf scene, this singular south west retreat can arguably lay claim to some of Cornwall's most eye-catching glamping accommodation. While operating a separate field for 50 or so grass tent pitches (with optional electric hook-up), it's the luxury camping that steals the show here.

For starters, there's the eponymous oval pods. Ingeniously designed, these green-roofed wooden cabins come kitted out with king-sized beds, heated showers and solar-powered lighting, not to mention all the essentials from cooking gear and a cool-box to lean futons for extra pod-mates.

Although they aren’t exactly surfside, these luxury abodes come close enough, with the beach and town just a 20 minute walk away. And lets face it, after a battle with the Atlantic swell, these trendy little eco-pods offer superior comfort and protection from the elements than a sand-blasted tent on the beach.

Next up, the Atlantic Treehouse is a staggering feat of arboreal architecture. The spacious timber-framed house features bi-fold glazed doors, a perfectly proportioned balcony, and a clear translucent roof on its north side, with the central trunk forking right up through the structure and providing shade on the south section. Despite its eco-credentials, couples in the canopy are not short of mod-cons with a double bed, state-of-the-art heating, LED lighting, kettle, combi-microwave, and electric cool box, plus a firepit, barbecue and private bathroom with a 'secret al fresco shower' on the ground level. And, from six metres up, the views across the rolling green countryside to Widemouth Bay are stunning.

Although luxurious, there's a charming quirkiness to Atlantic Surf Pods. The spin-off business of an ex seashell-trader, there’s plenty of shell-themed décor and a shell shop and workshop onsite, which can be a brilliant distraction when the surf’s flat, the kids are bored or, on that rare occasion that Cornwall is hit by rain.

Gone are the days when 'roughing it' was non-negotiable if you wanted to dip a toe in the surfing lifestyle Cornwall is so famous for (although if you still yearn for a spot of traditional tent camping, the field next door offers some of the best in the region). In fact, flopped on a giant beanbag, the gas barbecue alight and a cold beer in hand, initiation to ‘surf-camping’ can be positively luxurious.

Pretty site
Lovely green site with naturally segregated pitches for campervans. Facilities basic but clean. Woken by a cockerell which is unusual for us city dwellers!

A Great Week!
We absolutely loved our stay in the surf pods this summer. They were clean and welcoming with great facilities. The individual toilet/wet room was a welcome sight and the fact that it was spider free was a great bonus! The families staying in the surrounding pods were also friendly and our two children (3 and 7) loved playing with everyone on the grass outside. There were some lovely beaches a short drive away and we loved the sea pool at Bude. We will be booking again and look forward to more adventures from the surf pods.

Great location and friendly peaceful site - however the lack of hooks and a shelf or small bench/plastic chair in the showers really let it down. As the cost would be minimal it can only be laziness stopping them. One of the many great things about camping with children is that they do the washing up. Sadly the sinks in the washing up area are too high for anyone under 5ft 3ins to reach. Simple cheap solution - put a few breeze blocks down to stand on. Again not expensive - so probably just laziness

Lovely 5 nights away
Lovely pod in a quiet location, upon arrival they had a box of essential items to use whilst there including plates, pans, cutlery and cups, a washing up bowl, sponge and towel. The bed was comfy and also great idea of the bean bag bed for our daughter she loved it! The toilet and shower room was quirky but the shower was pretty cold. Overall a lovely experience had by all.

Absolutely beautiful campsite cannot fault it. Unspoilt with palm trees and an amazing view if you are at the back of the site. This is one of our fav sites and I just don’t understand how people couldn’t like it? Facilities are basic but that’s the camping we love. Not for families who are looking for entertainment and activities but for those that love meeting new people, and a tranquil setting.

We will definitely return
We loved our stay at Atlantic Surf Pods. The pod was a really good size, clean and well-maintained. We loved the open space but loved that the planting still gave you a feeling of privacy. The campsite had amazing wildlife, so many birds, hedgehogs and a peacock and was lovely and peaceful. We needed help with the gas bottle and were helped straight away. The place is so close to lots of different beaches. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We would definitely return.

We had a great stay in one of the surf pods. The team were super accommodating when we needed to change our original booking (camping pitch) to the pod due to storms. The site is well maintained. The pod and private bathroom/wet room were clean and well cared for. Shower was a good temperature even in terrible weather. Close proximity to Bude made this a great spot to stay. Would 100% recommend.

If your looking for a basic, quite and relaxing getaway this is the perfect location. Everything was as pictured, simple contactless check in and out. The only negative thing I will say is the WiFi was shocking. Would stay again.

Great location close to Bude. The surfpod had everything we needed for a great stay; comfortable bed, basic private toilet and shower, gas BBQ, and fridge. We only stayed for 2 nights but wish it had been longer. 100% recommend!

Camping is as expected. Cleaned loos / showers etc and hook up all worked fine BEST bit was the shell craft. The studio is not shouted about but it’s huge and we had a good 3 hours in there (family of 7 - age range 9-16) all including parents loved it. A lovely activity for a wet morning or afternoon and staff so nice chatting about history of shells etc. Even if this is not your bag it’s well worth a go. We had a circus next door and 5 min drive to the surf. Sorted! Thanks

Overall we had a really nice stay at this campsite however the toilets and showers are not cleaned sufficiently which really lets the site down. The showers are often cold and the floor muddy. Investment in the shower block and the children’s play area are required.

Grass Pitch
I stayed here 17th - 21st June 2021. The site slopes (no mention of this in details). The toilets / showers were NOT cleaned everyday. For some reason campers were not spread out, thought i read somewhere 3 meters more space etc, however seems not to be managed that way. Apart from the above it was very peaceful and suited our needs.

We stayed at Atlantic Farm in a Surf Pod on their first week of opening after Lockdown 3, my children (and myself and husband) were so excited to get away, and to stay in a Pod!!! The pods were spacious enough for 4, bean bag futon was big enough for my 12 year old, bed super comfy and a big bonus to have a fridge, kettle and toaster. Everything was clean and we had everything we needed. Would recommend and we will be rebooking again in the future. Make sure to purchase a log basket and make use of the fire pits, whilst toasting marshmallows and star gazing!

Atlantic Treehouse
We had a lovely midweek stay in the tree house! Amazing views from the top, and a really nice sunset on the first night!! The lady who was there to greet us was very welcoming, and made us feel very at home. We had a slight problem with water due to heavy downpours on the second night, but we were swiftly moved to a lovely cottage!! So thankful for the lady that helped us to have such a magical stay. Would definitely recommend staying here if you love the cornish coast and countryside!!

We had a fantastic week, despite very wet weather. The pods are spacious and extremely warm (with underfloor heating), and great equipment (king size bed, kettle & toaster and fridge!). Set in good amount of space, in small group of 3 other pods. Fantastic location, short distance from town with beach, swimming pool (with wave machine!), lovely shops etc. Great to have own toilet and sink. Used shared bathroom for washing. Lovely farm location, playarea for children, quiet at night. Would definitely recommend!

We loved our stay in a pod for two nights. It was October and very rainy but it still worked really well. The room was warm and the bed was sooo comfy and huge (perfect for midnight visit from our 3 year old!). The grounds are so glorious and the huts feel secluded and private even though they are close to each other. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 was because I’m not a fan of wet rooms / showers over a loo and also the room was missing surface area to prep food. To be honest if the weather had been sunny I probably wouldn’t have noticed and we would’ve used the table outside. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed in one of the surf pods for 3 nights. Its got everything you need for a relaxing get away from it all break. The pods are well equipped, the bathroom is just what you need and it's a brilliant location. It was a little chilly in the pod , but it was September so we were prepared and once the doors were shut it was fine. The hosts were great, it was close to Bude and there is the most incredible walk which takes in the coastal route which you can start straight from the site. We were sad to leave and already looking at dates to return.

We stayed for a week at Atlantic Farm in one of the surf pods - it was well equipped, cosy and a fun experience staying in the pod, including the resident cat and giant beanbags! The BBQ and firepit in the evening were great and the location is conveniently placed to access Bude, its beaches and Widemouth Bay. We would definitely stay again and our only suggested improvement would be to provide some more planting between pods 9 and 10 so that there is more privacy. Other than that a great stay and we would recommend to others - thank you!

We camped for a week in July. The pitch was lovely with lots of space and planting between pitches for a little privacy. Contactless check in was a breeze. Location was great - we cycled and walked in Bude many times. Would definitely recommend

We had a lovely time staying here at Atlantic farm. We used our own tent. The pitches are nicely laid out and facilities were ok may need a little improvement soon, also the pump for the water woke me up a few times. The kids made friends early which is alway makes a good camping trip. Also there’s farm animals to see which my younger one loved. And Verity the owner was engaging and friendly. The shop had the basics, enough to get you started.

Apart from the weather and the spiders in the loo (I'm a wuss, it's my issue, not Verity's haha, we had a fantastic stay with our daughter. Great to have the option of the extra bathroom. Running hot water, plenty of drinking water. A launderette on site which was very useful with a toddler in tow. Great location. Only a mile and a half to Bude shops and beaches. Really relaxed vibe, will DEFINITELY visit again :)
