Weekend Trip to Huckleberry Farm
Our getaway to Huckleberry Farm was a gift for my husband’s birthday. Everything from start to finish was really organised and fun. Met all of our expectations. Charlotte and everyone on site were really helpful and sweet. We enjoyed horse riding and seeing the guinea pigs. We stayed in the shepherd’s hut, a clean and well maintained space that felt like home for the night. All in all a wonderful experience. Completely recommend! Thank you Charlotte and everyone at Huckleberry Farm for having Ali & I. Looking back to visiting again sometime soon!

2 nights at Cuddfan - The Hiding Place
Thanks Mark for the lovely stay! The area is secluded and picturesque, which really gave us the feeling of living a nomadic life with just the basic amenities.
A few tips for future visitors:
Bring a hanging light or headlamp, as it gets very dark and there’s no lighting provided.
There’s a gas stove and cooking area, but you’ll need to bring your own utensils.
Pack warm duvets and thick jackets if you’re visiting in autumn, as nights can get very cold.
🚗 Important: Do not drive your car down to the tent. Park just after entering the gate and walk down instead. I missed the host’s message about this, got stuck trying to drive back up, and had to be rescued by a farmer with his tractor (thankfully the host responded quickly and was super helpful!).
Despite that little adventure, I absolutely loved the stay and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a unique experience without the hassle of putting up a tent yourself.

Great camp site , everything is well organised and well tought . Suzi has put an enormous amount of work and dedication to make this camp site so unique and welcoming. Suzi has gone above and beyond with meticulous arrangements for Geodomes, nice clean and spacious , full off blankets , linens , lamps and gadgets like fans .
Her welcom book / guide it is an essence of valuable information where to go and what are best local places to visit .
Suzi itself is an very open and friendly person , always ready to help and support.
Perfect spot for star gazing.Very dark nights.
Cooking/ dining shack is absolutely amazing( brilliant idea itself), everything is there, you can even cook or make bbq during rainy day. Camping stove in situ.
Honesty shop - needed essential in situ , wood logs , charcoal , local products like jams ,tea , eggs and coffe .
Dog friendly site.
Recycling zone present .
Would return next year .
Can not complaint about anything, everything is well maintained - general site conditions including utilities, essentials and building conditions.
Very nice place , come and rejoice with nature.

1 night at Stowford Manor Farm Campsite
This is a lovely place to stay. The railway carriage was very comfortable and very well laid out, packing a lot of functionality into a cozy space. The grounds are beautiful and quiet. It’s just a short drive to several must see places like Bath and Avebury henge.

Had an amazing stay with Graham and Allison! They were such gracious hosts and have created a little slice of heven on their land. The lodge is so cute and well furnished, we wished for nothing. A perfect romantic destination. We will definitely be back to stay again!

We had a wonderful time, excellent location by the river, pub and town. It was very quiet and we had enough space for our three families to run around and enjoy all the nature available! We hired the canoe and paddle boards which were fab. The beds were very comfortable and warm, toilets and showers were decent enough but did get messy quickly with all the usage. The wash up station was very basic and some of the outside benches were a bit tatty so because of that, probably an 8/10 BUT great for families.

David and Jasper went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and taken care off. The campsite is near town, just a 20 minutes walk along the river. The facilities at the campsite are primitive, but adequate and clean. Loved the hot showers! We stayed in a yurt and that was very comfortable and very well equipped. Our kids (and the other kids at the campsite) spent most of the time in and around the tree with a swing, so nice! They called it the best campsite ever! Hope to come back one day!

Gorgeous cabin with rolling countryside views.
Private area with large garden.
Hot tub and sauna are a big plus.
Farm is quiet and very close to all North Devon has to offer.
Accommodation is actually very spacious. 4 fit easily in each room.
Highly recommended. We had a fabulous weekend, I could’ve stayed longer.

We had a lovely time at the farm, 2 adults and 2 kids staying at the Drover's hut. Nicky was super lovely and even showed our boys around the chicken coops. The beds were comfy and the hot tub was great too.

2 nights at Oakhill Ponds
Beautiful location, we loved staying in the Shepherds Hut. Loads of thought has been put into the space, lovely individual garden with seating, hammocks, so nice to eat outside in the sunshine & to be able to use the outdoor hot tub after a swim. The spa was fab & swimming in the pond was tonic for the soul. Amanda & Rob were great hosts, & they have definitely achieved what they have set out to do - provide people with an incredible place to slow down, appreciate nature & reset. Thank you

We loved it. The meadow is beautiful and during our week in May we awoke to the sound of cookoos every morning - joy. We were in the smaller Yurt which was really warm and comfortable. David was really available and bought us wood for the fire when we needed. Classic camping and a wonderful escape from the city! Thanks David.

Amazing lodges, our family had Kites Nest and Barn Owl Lodge and they were perfect for our group size, including a toddler and elderly woman! They were comfortable and gorgeous. Interiors and views were stunning, I couldn't believe the sunsets at night, the hot tubs were such a treat and both lodges had fantastic seating areas on the deck, we went on the steam railway and enjoyed a BBQ at the lodge. Would love to come back next year.

Cotswolds
Road trips don’t come more scenic than the Cotswolds, just north of Bristol. Drive along winding country lanes, admire the honey-coloured stone villages, and hop out to hike through the valleys, browse the artisan shops, or dine at a gastropub. Celebrity residents are commonplace in this region, and campers seeking a taste of the high-life have plenty of chic glampsites to choose from.
North Somerset
South of Bristol, the beaches of North Somerset have sandy shores, seaside walks, and plenty of options for campers. Inland, head to the Mendip Hills AONB to hike through the Cheddar Gorge, discover the Wookey Hole caves, and taste local specialties, Cheddar cheese and Somerset cider. Music lovers won’t want to miss the ultimate camping experience—the annual Glastonbury Festival.
Wye Valley
Across the Severn Bridge, the Welsh town of Chepstow is the gateway to the Wye Valley AONB, where forested glades, hilltop forts, and dramatic gorges line the banks of the Wye River. Visit the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Tintern Abbey, hike parts of the Wales Coast Path or Offa's Dyke trail, or take to the water to canoe or stand-up paddleboard. Campsites line the riverside but to escape the crowds, choose a quiet farmland camping ground in hills.
When to go
Summer is festival season in Bristol, and annual events such as the Bristol Harbour Festival and the Bristol balloon festival draw big crowds. Urban and beachside campsites can fill up quickly at these times, so book several months in advance for popular sites. May through September offers the most pleasant weather for tent campers, but Bristol weather rarely sees extremes, making camping possible year-round. Just don’t forget your raincoat—showers are common even in summer!
Know before you go
- Central Bristol has dozens of camping and outdoors stores where you can pick up everything you need for your camping trip.
- Bristol has public transport links to many of the surrounding towns and AONBs, but it is handy to have your own transport, especially if staying at rural campsites.
- Wild camping is illegal throughout the UK, although there are some areas where it is possible with permission from the landowners.
