We set up our campsite to be a unique place where guests could be as close to nature as possible, while retaining some of the basic comforts of home. Think wildflower meadow with hot showers!
We've gone for ultimate peace and tranquility, with a very limited number of pitches mown into the wildflowers with lots of space between. Our remote site is far from roads or light pollution, making for serene starry nights around the firepit.
The camping meadow is bordered by woodlands, a small nature reserve, and the gardens of a stunning Tudor manor house, all of which you're free to explore.
Nestled in a remote and picturesque corner of West Dorset, the campsite is within easy reach of some of the South West's most stunning spots, from world-famous fossil beaches to neolithic hill-forts.

Such a magical and beautiful campsite. Nestled within a small private woodland you feel like you're in another world. Quiet, serene and private with everything you need for an off grid getaway. The hosts were incredible and took us on a tour of the site. As we were the only ones staying at this time we got the pick of what we felt was the best spot. (You'll have to find out when you go) The site was operating a no fire rule as was the Devon county rules at the time of our stay due to the threat of wildfires, however there would have been firewood and kindling for sale in the little honesty shack. On offer were freshly laid eggs from the hosts, leaflets for the local area, and all the local wildlife to look out for. The site features large plots and most use a communal compost toilet and solar shower bags. These were clean and easy to operate and no hassle at all. If you want secluded and private woodland in a magical setting then look no further. One of the best campsites we've ever stayed at and will be recommending to all our friends. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!!

Lovely camping in an old forest, pitches are distant from each other, so it is perfect if you want privacy and silence. Deer wandering through the camp. Really good rustic toilet and shower structure. And the owners were really kind and welcoming. 10/10 will come again.

Camping at Southover Woods was a fantastic experience. We loved pitching our tent right between the trees in a quiet, beautiful, and shaded setting. The campfire setup was excellent, and the owners thoughtfully provided firewood, toilet paper, and sawdust to help get the fire going.We chose to rough camp, relying on wet wipes and bringing our own camping toilet. This turned out to be a good choice, as the communal facilities are very basic. The long-drop toilet is open and lacks a door, and I noticed the showers do not have doors either; adding doors would definitely improve privacy.The only major downside is the steep incline of the site. It requires a lot of walking up and down hills, so I would not recommend this campsite to anyone with mobility or leg issues. Overall, it is a wonderful spot if you are prepared for the terrain!

Second time visiting. Jason helpful and responsive as usual. Could never tire of those wonderful views over Blackmore Vale. Other campers are very respectful and quiet. Obviously drought precautions in place so no campfires which is very understandable. The wildflower Meadowland had to be cut back as well due to fire risk, but I think every site would be the same under the circumstances. Toilet facilities are clean and tidy. Didn’t use the shower this time as it was just a short stop over. lovely walk to Shaftbury and lunch in the café overlooking Gold Hill which is dog friendly.. If you turn right in a different direction from the siteand then look along the hedgerow there is a public walkway/bridleway via a little wooden gate. Lovely walk with fantastic views.

Brilliant clean and old fashioned camp site. Well maintained large field with good views. Clean toilet shower block, good showers , inside and outside washing up area. Fridge/freezer , microwave and PowerPoints. Parts of the field have electric hook up and the location is very peaceful. Dorchester is 6 miles away with lots of shops and plenty of DC EV charging stations. Christopher the owner is lovely and for a small fee his wife produces continental breakfast. A great site that I shall be using again

It doesn't claim to be a forest, but it's a perfectly arranged woodland campsite, with pitches in grassy glades. We were the only ones there for our first night, but had quiet neighbours the second night. So relaxing and cool as shaded by the trees. We were welcomed by Sarah on arrival and had a great weekend. Well, what can I say. Absolutely wonderful spot. Nuthatch, wren, blackcap, buzzards galore. Clean and tidy deep wooded glade. Compost loo with a view into the green.
Our site was Hazlewood 2. A short steep track but worth every step. We heard a badger or a deer passing by at one point but didn’t see it. The shower felt all the sweeter, shared and on a slow trickle lasted ages. Wood was dry and lit easily. Thanks Southover Woods for sharing your magic.

We absolutely loved The Villager at Southwood. Being amongst the trees and watching the wildlife going about their days. The firepit was great, private compost loo and bucket shower. We honestly didn't want to leave, it was the perfect size for the two of us to feel like we had our own hideaway. We give it a 5/5, the only disappointment was the grounds were a little neglected, we attempted the Woodland Walk but it was too overgrown, the pitch area had sunken so was quite bowed, some toilet roll/rubbish was left behind by previous guests. There is also a handout at each site which states there is a shop, but this isn't actually true, so probably needs updating too. These are pretty minor maintenance tasks - but considering the high price of the pitch/site we were a little surprised. This didn't detract from our stay though, and we will be back.

We really enjoyed our stay at Bridgewood. Sarah and Paul are very friendly and helpful. We loved having fresh eggs for breakfast, and sitting in front the campfire at the end of the day. Would be happy to come back, beautiful forest and peaceful.

Lovely place to spend a night in the woods. Felt serene and safe, with beautiful areas to walk around. The little wood shed to buy small jars of local honey and eggs was a lovely touch even though we just took logs.
