About
There’s something ever so right about describing this valley as ‘enchanting’. The stream that bubbles its way through the 34-acre small holding ranges from a soundscape of gurgling to an almost silent trickle when the weather is dry. The long grasses change from a buttercup speckled yellow in June to a light, sun-scorched green by August. And the trees, hedges and saplings are as inviting to children as any artificial playground. It’s a wonderful place to explore.
The Yurt and Lodge here have been fittingly finished to provide the same enchanting feel. Solar-powered fairy lights and lanterns cast their ambient light across the exposed wooden lattice on the inside of each structure, while wood burners and colour-schemed furnishings give a warm and cosy feel. They are, of course, also perfectly practical. Each one sleeps up to five people and are accompanied by a neighbouring cabin with your own private shower and toilet facilities. The mown grass provides children a space to play and also leads you to a communal log cabin that’s home to the main kitchen and dining area. It comes complete with everything you need (including a range cooker) and there’s an outside cooking area with a proper pizza oven and a campfire.
Owl Yurt is perhaps the more secluded of the two, with the stream and a line of bushes slightly separating it and involves crossing a tiny bridge to get there, while Pheasant Lodge is closer to the kitchen area.
When the sun’s out, it’s all so nice it’s difficult to leave. The raised wooden platforms on which each Yurt and Lodge sits has outdoor furniture where you can sit and enjoy a sun-downer and you can even put your feet up and relax under the guise of ‘supervising the kids’.
Enchanting though it may be, there is life beyond the valley (really, there is) and once you drag yourself away you’ll be quick to realise that the coast is the real draw here. It’s a 15-minute drive to the beaches of the south and the charming harbour town of Looe, stacked up along the steep sides of the river valley. From there you can chug out on the ferry to the nature reserve of Looe Island or join the coastal path to wander to neighbouring coves and beaches.

Welcome to the ‘Look Out’, our beautiful handmade pod, set in 12 acres of woodland and pasture nature reserve above our offgrid eco lodge - The Sanctuary Cornwall.
First things first - this is for those guests who are used to camping and all that it entails, but with the opportunity to explore an offgrid stay with quite a bit more comfort than camping normally provides!
It needs to be emphasised that booking this space is really for the relatively fit and active. There is one car parking space available half way up our driveway, but after that it is not only a walk uphill to the main building, but a further steep walk uphill to the Look Out. You will need to carry everything that you need. It is definitely worth it - the views are amazing! You are away and up above, but within easy reach of the Sanctuary. There will also be some filling and emptying of water containers involved, and you may like to charge the solar battery from the panel on sunny days!
So, what do we offer?
A king bed.
Fair trade, organic bed linen, and cotton & bamboo towels.
A fold up table and two wicker chairs.
Charnwood wood burning stove, with firelighters, kindling, brush and poker set. Wood, selected and dried is available free of charge for the first basket, £5 after that.
A tiny kitchen pod with a single gas burner and even tinier sink with pop up tap. Underneath, there is a 10 litre water container for fresh water and another for waste. These can be filled or emptied at the Sanctuary.
There is a kettle, teapot, coffee pot, enamel mugs, crockery & cutlery, knives, breadboard and washing up things.
A solar battery to provide power for the tap pump along with charging facilities for charging your phone or laptop (we hope you won’t be bringing work with you!)
Led battery lanterns - we ask that you do not burn candles - we have a good range of battery candles for you.
There is also a separate wooden shelter kitchen, with kitchen worktop, washing up bow and two burner gas stove. It has a cool box, saucepans, crockery etc and a lidded storage box for food. There is a 10 litre water container with a tap, and bins for kitchen waste, recycling and general rubbish. This is next to the Look Out, and there is a separate charcoal fire pit and seating under the trees. We ask that you burn nothing other than the fuel you are provided with.
A composting toilet in its own, handmade building next to the Crow’s Nest, with a water container and small bowl for washing hands.
An exclusive use shower room is back at the Sanctuary (a short walk downhill) and there is a separate flushing toilet (not exclusive, but only used by occasional staff members)
Another outdoor kitchen for all guests with a gas barbecue, and wood fired pizza oven, picnic tables and an outdoor sink. You can wash up and fill your containers there from our own filtered spring water. This is at the side of the Sanctuary building.
Storage benches on the covered deck area, with outdoor cushions, and a welly rack.
In good weather, a pair of hammocks under the trees to relax in!
Hopefully, during the season, there will be produce available from our new vegetable garden and polytunnel - as long as the voles, rabbits, pigeons, blackbirds & deer haven’t beaten us to it!
You have a parking space in the carpark for one car - this is halfway down the steep entrance track. If you are nervous of driving small lanes and steep hills, we may not be right for you.
We do not accept dogs at The Lookout, as we feel it is a bit small, and we do not allow dogs on any furniture so it’s not fair to them. Also, it is a wild landscape with deer etc and so there is no secure place for them to be other than on a lead.
We are also adults only, and there are quiet hours between 10pm and 9am, and we are strictly no smoking.
Although you are private at The Look Out, you are also part of our Eco Lodge surroundings, and nature reserve, and we also welcome bed and breakfast guests, so there will be others around. You are also welcome to join us for breakfast at the Sanctuary building for an extra charge.
We have a good village pub, 5 mins walk away, (www.fishermansarmsgolant.co.uk) and a kayak/paddleboard company in the village (www.encountercornwall.com)

Within 40 acres of Cornish ancient woodland, TEC offers a unique escape: three Safari tree tents, each accommodating up to three people, are suspended discreetly between trees and provide intimate yet communal spaces, letting you enjoy nature’s symphony as you sleep amidst the treetops.
Elevate your camping experience with TEC, where each night is an opportunity to sleep between the trees and create memories that swing far beyond the ordinary.
In addition to the tree tents, our TEC ensures your wilderness adventure doesn’t compromise on comfort. We provide a communal area weather-proofed using a large parachute under which we provide a Quirky wood burner made from repurposed wheel hubs to keep you toasty and seating crafted from locally sourced Oak timber. There is also a simple BBQ grill. Further shelter is provided by our large tarp-covered A-frame, furnished with a bench and further seating lovingly built by your hosts, offering perfect spots to share stories and revel in the magic of the forest.
Essential amenities include a sustainable composting toilet with rain-fed handwashing facilities, including eco-friendly handwash, a supply of drinking water, first aid kit, firelighters, heat glove and fire extinguisher, BBQ implements and a store of seasoned firewood.
Rather than renting out the three tree tents separately as pitches, we only allow for exclusive bookings. Thus, it will only be you and your friends, family or colleagues who will be having a tree tent experience. You will have exclusive-use of the fire area underneath the parachute, the A-frame shelter and the composting toilet.
You can also explore the 40-acres of the ancient Cornish woodland that is Caradon Wood, some of which is rare Atlantic or Temperate rainforest. A 15-minute walk down the slope brings you to the River Lyhner and there are nice little wild swimming spots on the bends of this river with its source close-by on Bodmin Moor.
Once you book you will be sent directions to Caradon Wood along with a full kit list: what we provide and what you need to bring along. You will be met at our Base Camp parking area by one of your hosts, either Phil or Aydin. They will show you to your tree tent/s and provide you with an overview of the facilities and the woods.
The cost per tree tent is £75/night for up to three people. Additional adults are £25/night

You have a parking space in the carpark for one car - this is halfway down the steep entrance track. If you are nervous of driving small lanes and steep hills, we may not be right for you.
We do not accept dogs at The Lookout, as we feel it is a bit small, and we do not allow dogs on any furniture so it’s not fair to them. Also, it is a wild landscape with deer etc and so there is no secure place for them to be other than on a lead.
We are also adults only, and there are quiet hours between 10pm and 9am, and we are strictly no smoking.
Although you are private at The Look Out, you are also part of our Eco Lodge surroundings, and nature reserve, and we also welcome bed and breakfast guests, so there will be others around. You are also welcome to join us for breakfast at the Sanctuary building for an extra charge.
We have a good village pub, 5 mins walk away, (www.fishermansarmsgolant.co.uk) and a kayak/paddleboard company in the village (www.encountercornwall.com)

Take camping to the next level with our off-grid and eco-friendly Tree tent Experience Camp (TEC). Within 40 acres of Cornish ancient woodland, TEC offers a unique escape: three Safari tree tents, each accommodating up to three people, are suspended discreetly between trees and provide intimate yet communal spaces, letting you enjoy nature’s symphony as you sleep amidst the treetops.
Elevate your camping experience with TEC, where each night is an opportunity to sleep between the trees and create memories that swing far beyond the ordinary.
In addition to the tree tents, our TEC ensures your wilderness adventure doesn’t compromise on comfort. We provide a communal area weather-proofed using a large parachute under which we provide a Quirky wood burner made from repurposed wheel hubs to keep you toasty and seating crafted from locally sourced Oak timber. There is also a simple BBQ grill. Further shelter is provided by our large tarp-covered A-frame, furnished with a bench and further seating lovingly built by your hosts, offering perfect spots to share stories and revel in the magic of the forest.
Essential amenities include a sustainable composting toilet with rain-fed handwashing facilities, including eco-friendly handwash, a supply of drinking water, first aid kit, firelighters, heat glove and fire extinguisher, BBQ implements and a store of seasoned firewood.
Rather than renting out the three tree tents separately as pitches, we only allow for exclusive bookings. Thus, it will only be you and your friends, family or colleagues who will be having a tree tent experience. You will have exclusive-use of the fire area underneath the parachute, the A-frame shelter and the composting toilet.
You can also explore the 40-acres of the ancient Cornish woodland that is Caradon Wood, some of which is rare Atlantic or Temperate rainforest. A 15-minute walk down the slope brings you to the River Lyhner and there are nice little wild swimming spots on the bends of this river with its source close-by on Bodmin Moor.
Once you book you will be sent directions to Caradon Wood along with a full kit list: what we provide and what you need to bring along. You will be met at our Base Camp parking area by one of your hosts, either Phil or Aydin. They will show you to your tree tent/s and provide you with an overview of the facilities and the woods.
The cost per tree tent is £75/night for up to three people. Additional adults are £25/night

My family and I loved the campsite. We were 10 people: 7 adults and 3 5-year-old children. We chose one of the private sites and brought 4 tents. The site was large and private. We enjoyed 3 nights there and plan to return sometime soon. We cooked over a lovely campfire, which the kids loved.
They also went canoeing one morning, completing a fascinating trip.

I stayed in Gosels as a private pitch and absolutely loved it. The campsite was perfect blend of eco/modern (compostable/flushable toilets and hot showers) within a tranquil setting. I liked how the campsite was used in a traditional sense for escape keeping noise and disturbance down to a minimum. The quarry lake was a great area for a splash around and cool down. Though used heavily by young families, had enough space for all. I already miss my chicken and rabbit friends seen daily on my pitch. The location of the site was perfect for me to make some visits out to North Cornwalls surrounding beaches and beauty spots. Well worth the trip.

It’s perfectly located, close to amazing spots like the rocky valleys and Tarr Steps, with stunning surroundings all around. From the camp, we had beautiful views of the river and felt truly immersed in nature, surrounded by the silence.
