About
There’s something ever so right about describing this valley as ‘enchanting’. The stream that bubbles its way through the 34-acre small holding ranges from a soundscape of gurgling to an almost silent trickle when the weather is dry. The long grasses change from a buttercup speckled yellow in June to a light, sun-scorched green by August. And the trees, hedges and saplings are as inviting to children as any artificial playground. It’s a wonderful place to explore.
The Yurt and Lodge here have been fittingly finished to provide the same enchanting feel. Solar-powered fairy lights and lanterns cast their ambient light across the exposed wooden lattice on the inside of each structure, while wood burners and colour-schemed furnishings give a warm and cosy feel. They are, of course, also perfectly practical. Each one sleeps up to five people and are accompanied by a neighbouring cabin with your own private shower and toilet facilities. The mown grass provides children a space to play and also leads you to a communal log cabin that’s home to the main kitchen and dining area. It comes complete with everything you need (including a range cooker) and there’s an outside cooking area with a proper pizza oven and a campfire.
Owl Yurt is perhaps the more secluded of the two, with the stream and a line of bushes slightly separating it and involves crossing a tiny bridge to get there, while Pheasant Lodge is closer to the kitchen area.
When the sun’s out, it’s all so nice it’s difficult to leave. The raised wooden platforms on which each Yurt and Lodge sits has outdoor furniture where you can sit and enjoy a sun-downer and you can even put your feet up and relax under the guise of ‘supervising the kids’.
Enchanting though it may be, there is life beyond the valley (really, there is) and once you drag yourself away you’ll be quick to realise that the coast is the real draw here. It’s a 15-minute drive to the beaches of the south and the charming harbour town of Looe, stacked up along the steep sides of the river valley. From there you can chug out on the ferry to the nature reserve of Looe Island or join the coastal path to wander to neighbouring coves and beaches.

Weekend Trip to Pigscombe Piglet
The Piglet is a great choice if you are looking for a quiet getaway. The location is excellent—peaceful and private, but still an easy drive to local beaches and towns. It was a thoroughly relaxing experience, and I would certainly consider staying here again.

Farm is quiet and very close to all North Devon has to offer.
Accommodation is actually very spacious. 4 fit easily in each room.
Highly recommended. We had a fabulous weekend, I could’ve stayed longer.

Really lovely welcome from a top host - unexpected but appreciated cake, tea and coffee, etc, and also fresh eggs and home made jam for a little extra meant beautiful breakfasts.
Very cosy and well equipped hut - everything we might have needed was easily to hand.
Loved the outdoor spa to relax in at the end of a day's adventuring, watching the sunsets over the hills.

The Piglet was the perfect, peaceful hideaway for a week in the sunshine. Stunning views across the countryside, evenings spent star-gazing and toasting marshmallows around the fire-pit, lazy breakfasts watching the bird-life… bliss!
Great location (albeit down some very narrow lanes) - perfect as base to explore this corner of Cornwall. Fowey, Polperro, Lerryn, Lantic Bay etc.
All with the bonus of a friendly resident dog (the adorable Mizzle). Highly recommended!

We had the most amazing time staying in Pheasant Lodge, Amanda and Allan were lovely hosts, great communication and information.
The lodge was stunning, we loved waking up to the hand painted ceiling, at night it was magical with the fairy lights too. The beds were comfy and we stayed warm all night.
They had thought of absolutely everything, the kitchen and bathroom was so well equipped and made our stay even easier.
I would definitely recommend Pheasant Lodge to friends and family, it’s also in a great location to go on days out like The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

This place is a little slice of heaven! Alex is a wonderful host, allowing us later check out so the kids could feed the animals with her. The cabin itself was the perfect size for the 4 of us, the private shower was a luxury and the kids didn’t want to get out of it! The land is stunning, lots for children to explore even in wet weather. Lots of little touches set this place apart from others we have been to; toiletries provided, fresh wildflowers on the table when we arrived, the option of a cooked breakfast on a Sunday morning. We would absolutely come again.

Really lovely glamping hut. We stayed in the cabin - it was well equipped, comfortable, beautifully decorated and lovely peaceful surroundings. The farm was great for the kids to explore with little streams to splash in, trampolines etc. The boys especially enjoyed making their own pizzas on pizza night. We had a small issue with the water in the wee shack but communication was excellent and the problem was resolved promptly. Shower in the shack was lovely and warm, beds were comfortable, and well equipped for campfire suppers!

Lovely quirky place. We were pleasantly surprised that we got our own cooking and toilet/shower facilities next to the hut we stayed in. One of the upper bunk beds cannot really fit an adult but a small child and I feel there should be more bedside protection preventing people from falling off. Otherwise all good.

Weekend Trip to Dragonfly Glamping
It is stunning. If you value peace and quiet, and need some headspace, this is the place to stay. We saw owls, young squirrels playing, countless birds and dragonflies. It was cold outside, but snug inside with the log burner, and the sunsets were incredible.

We had the most fabulous two nights at Tregantle Farm. Michele and Colin were the dream hosts and couldn’t have been kinder. They have thought of everything - there is oil, S&P, cling film etc in the kitchen, the tent was so beautifully kitted out and the bathroom was clean and spacious. We loved bbqing, watching the stars round the fire pit and the easy access to the beach. Plus the beds were sooo comfy! Michele turns out to be a fantastic baker and kindly made the most incredible birthday cake as a surprise for my husband. We would love to come back - thank you again Michele!

Dartmoor National Park
An hour east of Polzeath is Dartmoor National Park, where deep river valleys cut through granite landscape. Join the otters for a splash in one of the many rivers that run through Dartmoor, or hike through the woodland valleys where dormice and bats make their homes. Rustic camping is popular in the park, with plenty of tranquil tent pitches that offer a view of the starry night skies. Campervans are welcome, although small roads may restrict larger vehicles.
Exmoor National Park
From England’s highest cliffs to winding trails through wide moors, Exmoor National Park offers one of the best walking parks in the UK. Trails range from rugged to easy, with some specially marked for accessible adventures—free from steps and stiles. Landowner permission is required for wild camping in the park, and accommodations ranging from tent camping to glamping and lodging offer a way for everyone to have a comfortable stay.
Penwith Heritage Coast
Discover the southwesternmost tip of England with a visit to Penwith Heritage Coast, where towering cliffs give a view over the Celtic Sea. Stroll through Chysauster Ancient Village and discover local history inside its 2,000-year-old walls, or wander the First and Last Trail for a spectacular finish at Land’s End. Local tent pitches and caravan parks offer easy access to the trails, with amenities like electric hookups and water standpipes.
When to go
Polzeath’s beachside appeal makes it especially popular as a summer camping destination, when crowds flock to the waterfront for sunny days in June and July. Spring and fall still offer pleasantly warm weather, with slightly fewer crowds at tent pitches. Some campsites remain open in winter and are ideal for a tranquil escape, though campers should be aware that sea storms and inclement weather may close some destinations on short notice.
