2 nights at Hendred Farm Huts

Stayed at Dorothy and it was the perfect stay especially as we were celebrating my boyfriends birthday. We were lucky enough to have the whole area to ourselves, and the weather was beautiful. We loved the peacefulness and hearing the church bells in the distance was and added bonus. The bed was very comfortable and we adored the shepherd's hut and loved that every little detail was thought off even the spare phone chargers. Pub was a lovely surprise just how close it was and the food was exceptional

This place is pure magic, couldn’t have asked for anything more. The location is stunning, based in a valley with views of meadows and grand trees as far as the eye can see. You would think you were deep in the countryside. The stream was crystal clear and crisp, we floated down on the kindly provided paddle boards which the kids loved. Not to mention the very friendly animals who wander freely around the site, it was beautiful seeing animals free in their natural environment. The piglets were extremely friendly and my daughter had so much fun playing with them. There is so much to do, in the woodland area my daughter had fun playing in the sandpit, swinging in the hammocks and zooming along the zip wire. We had a gorgeous fire in the pit provided, grilled our fish and enjoyed the starry night. In the morning we collected eggs from the lovely chickens - the freshest eggs I’ve ever had! And to top it all off, Morag is the loveliest person, such a genuine down to earth soul. We will definitely be back!

The views are great. It’s very peaceful. There’s a great football goal in the barn. Tony is a friendly and interesting owner. It’s a really big field with waist high grass, so being on the opposite side of it from the loos or shower is a bit of a challenge - pitch on the loos side if you can. It’s quite a long way to get water too.

Weekend Trip to Hendred Farm Huts

We spent a lovely relaxing weekend at Martha with our old pooch and we loved it. We did alot of laying about on the grass and listening to the abundance of birds. The barn owl hunting every evening in the field was a first for us and very special. The hut was kitted out nicely and felt comfortable. It's very cosy. We really enjoyed our time there and felt revived by the serene atmosphere.

Weekend Trip to The Nut Plat Retreat

Very nice off grid experience. Facilities are good but it’s more of a rustic experience than luxury. We had a lovely weekend. Nice walks to the vineyard (1 hour) who have a nice outside area to try wines and the cheeseboard is decent. The rifleman pub is a stones throw from the nuthatch and the food is really good. Wood fired hot tub is a nice touch. Just have to be patient with it. Really friendly host. Would definitely go back.

My family and I spent a night here, we absolutely loved this site. Phil was great, really friendly and cheerful, and gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. I met his wife as well who had a lovely chat with my kids and introduced them to the ducks and chickens. This is a great, family run campsite that is ideal for a quiet getaway. The facilities are clean and tidy, no issues at all. We stayed during a rain storm, fortunately we remained warm and dry in our campervan. Some of the other campers introduced themselves for a chat, the site definitely has a relaxed and chilled vibe that everyone embraces! The goats and pony were in their pen when we arrived, my kids absolutely loved them! The campsite itself is small but has great amenities, we would happily come back for another relaxing break!

Idealic, country retreat . Our dome had all the comforts of home, and we loved the hot tub. Katherine was delightful and offered to cook our pizzas when we said we we're going to try and cook them on the BBQ. It was just what my sister in law and I needed.

No more than 2 adults in any group, even on separate pitches. Please bring your acoustic guitar or similar but, as this is a quiet site, please no radios, stereos or videos unless you're using headphones. The birdsong here is incredible by the way! Very wet weather and winter – please note in the off-season, and if very wet, the camping field is closed to vehicles, replaced instead by semi-hardstanding areas or our summer car-park area. Facilities are open but please be prepared for the vagaries of the weather, leaves, puddles and mud. To change pitch please let us know asap so that we can try if possible to find you another. Apart from the car-park, pitches can get very muddy in prolonged, heavy rain. If you are not prepared for these eventualities please do not book.

The Soil Association certified organic land is full of wild flowers and surrounded by woodland and other orchards. Electricity and hot water for showers and washing up is solar generated. So you can charge your phone if necessary, but we'd recommend stargazing and enjoying the quiet warmth of friends and family around an evening fire instead. Bring your own tent, stay in the delightful hand-made shepherd’s hut or stylish caravan, or hire the whole May Tree Orchard space. Numbers are kept low here so that there is always plenty of room for everyone, as well as peace and quiet. The campsite is an hour and a half drive from London and a 20 min walk to the sleepy and pretty village of Goudhurst, with pubs selling great food and two local shops for self-catering. There are also two excellent farm shops within walking distance. Close to May Tree Orchard, there are walks via Sissinghurst, Scotney and Bodiam Castle, and water activities on the River Rother and at Bewl Water. Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is about a ten-minute drive from the campsite and the coast around Hastings and Rye is just over 30 minutes. Two amazing independent food businesses sell pears, apples and plums grown at the orchard – Local Greens (South London) and Growing Communities (North London). Delicious apple juice and tasty chutney made from the organic apples grown in the orchard are available to purchase on site, and sometimes there are home-grown veg and herbs for sale.

Lots of bird life around, with feeders outside each hut and waterfowl visitors to the lakes.When it comes to eats, pick up or have supplies delivered from supermarkets or takeaways in Uckfield, Heathfield or Crowborough or take a drive to Buxted Park for some posh food or pubs in Blackboys, Crowborough, Ringles Cross, 5 Ash Down, Rotherfield, or Buxted (it'll take about 10 minutes to drive to any of these).
