This 96-kilometre slice of Devonshire coastline is a waterfront oasis for explorers. Hike between rocky coves and windswept headlands along 320 km of trails, spot wildlife around the five estuaries, or take to the water to kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Camping in South Devon lets you get back to nature—pitch your tent amid patchwork farmlands or check into a quiet campsite by the beach. Summertime is peak season for campers, but the weather can still be unpredictable, so pack for chilly nights and showers. Winter bird-watching is a big draw out of season, and many caravan parks stay open year-round.

Becky and John both love Cornwall and fell in love with the site as soon as they saw it and it provided the perfect opportunity for a new challenge. Having only recently taken over at Willow Valley in the Summer of 2024, there are always ongoing improvements being made so make sure you keep in touch. Any returning campers will be glad to know we aren’t changing the campsite itself though. Why would we when it is already so perfect!

Wild About Campers is a peaceful retreat amid spectacular hiking country in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and 25 minutes’ drive from cliff-top treks along the South West Coast Path. The Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis is within 25 minutes’ drive, and if you feel a major shopping expedition coming on, the historic cathedral city of Exeter (35 minutes) will see you right. Both Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks are less than an hour’s drive away, while the pretty neighbouring town of Honiton (10 minutes) offers pubs and tearooms as well as antique shops to browse. But if it’s a rural retreat you’re after, well, this is the place. The camping paddock is surrounded by peaceful farmland and borders the River Otter (look out for the resident beavers, otters and kingfishers, which occasionally appear), so you can fall asleep lulled by the burble of the river along with the distant hoot of barn owls – and wake up fresh in the morning to the sound of birdsong. A popular family-run pub is five minutes’ stroll from the campsite, and you can pick up emergency supplies from a well-stocked village shop run by volunteers (five minutes’ drive).

Surrounded by nature you can truly unwind in the wood fired hot tub as you admire the far reaching views. Gratton Hideaway is a smallholding of around 3.75 acres where we grow 200 vines for wine production, we make cider from our apples and grow our own vegetables and fruit produce. It's the ideal place to relax and really switch off. We are perfectly placed half way between Bideford and Bude, if you love the beach, then just 25 minutes in either direction you will find some of the best in the South West. The huts have wood fired hot tubs, mains electric and mains water supply, a lovely shower room with loo, washbasin and shower. We provide all bedding and towels so you don't have to bring your own. There is a cosy sitting/dining area inside by the fully equipped kitchen which includes a butler sink, oven, hob, fridge, kettle, toaster, glasses, crockery and cutlery. Each outside area includes a fire pit with a bbq grill and seating for dining and relaxing. Everything you really need for your country escape.

Set among the green countryside of the rural west of Devon, Farmer Oak's Hut is a welcoming glamping site tucked away in the corner of a peaceful field. Swap your car for an old-fashioned apple cart and cart your kit over to this smart shepherd's hut for a peaceful stay in a private enclosed garden. Although the name of the hut is inspired by the protagonist of 'Far from the Madding Crowd' Gabriel Oak, this shepherd's hut in Dippertown near Tavistock and just over the border with Cornwall has a good deal more mod cons than the one in Hardy's novel (there's deliberately no TV or wifi, though – this place was designed for switching off). The hut has an en-suite shower room with your own fluffy towels and a "proper" WC, of course there's a comfy double box-bed with fairy lights and lanterns for you to create a romantic atmosphere. The signature cast iron EVERHOT stove is available for those chillier nights, and for food prep you're covered with a toaster, fridge, microwave and two-ring electric hob and the EVERHOT even has a built in oven - rare for a shepherd hut. There are also outdoor kitchen facilities, with enamel cups and plates as well as pots and pans you can use over the firepit. In the garden, a wooden table, benches and traditional deckchairs are available, and there's a covered area for shade or shelter from the rain. In the field, a short distance from the hut, there's a little store where you can buy homemade jams, chutneys, marmalade and fresh eggs; the owners also can supply you with fresh bread to order and scones for that must-have Devon cream tea. Although the name of the hut is inspired by the protagonist of 'Far from the Madding Crowd' Gabriel Oak, this shepherd's hut in Dippertown near Tavistock and just over the border with Cornwall has a good deal more mod cons than the one in Hardy's novel (there's deliberately no TV or wifi, though – this place was designed for switching off). The hut has an en-suite shower room with your own fluffy towels and a "proper" WC, of course there's a comfy double box-bed with fairy lights and lanterns for you to create a romantic atmosphere. The signature cast iron EVERHOT stove is available for those chillier nights, and for food prep you're covered with a toaster, fridge, microwave and two-ring electric hob and the EVERHOT even has a built in oven - rare for a shepherd hut. There are also outdoor kitchen facilities, with enamel cups and plates as well as pots and pans you can use over the firepit. In the garden, a wooden table, benches and traditional deckchairs are available, and there's a covered area for shade or shelter from the rain. In the field, a short distance from the hut, there's a little store where you can buy homemade jams, chutneys, marmalade and fresh eggs; the owners also can supply you with fresh bread to order and scones for that must-have Devon cream tea. We are a working farm only 15 mins from the North Cornish Coast at Crackington Haven, Widemouth Bay , Bude and Boscastle. Tintagel, Trebarwith Strand, Port Issac and Padstow are in easy reach by car. We have a foot path running through the farm and delicious home produced sausages, bacon, fresh free range eggs and home made bread available . Lavender Lodge was well equipped with some lovely touches for your stay and comfortable. The deck and firepit face great views and watching the sunset was pretty special. The shower/toilet facilities are located nearby and always clean and tidy. The farm is in a great location with Sidmouth and Lyme Regis within an easy 20 minute drive. Sam was lovely and made sure I had all I needed.
