Friendly welcome. Good space. Hot water in wash up and showers. Weather changed so I baled one day early so didn't get to try their Saturday night pizzas which sounded fab!

Phil, family, and staff made us all feel extremely welcome (especially the kids). The showers and facilities were great 😅. The breakfast rolls and the pizzas were really tasty and very handy as we had a lot of rain on one day 😋. Having a forest play area for kids as well as llamas nearby makes it an ideal family camp site.

Very friendly, lovely area, great amenities, if travelling on foot enter from the north of the property, rather than the hilly main road as there is no pavement. Put in RH19 4NB and walk up the field.

Have stayed here before and would again.
Really well organised from logs to food, good facilities including the open air showers. staff all really friendly. space is perfectly located for walk (to lots of well placed pubs)
pitches are large and no space is very far from the facilities. if i had one request for next time it would be better coffee but that’s a bit picky!
really good, reasonable camp for couples and families.

Hot water in shower and sinks. Drinking water a bit cloudy. Lovely and peaceful. Nice walks nearby. Quite surreal with the camels in the distance! Alpacas were sweet but a little far for petting. Not windy as sheltered location. A very large area with many pitches near alpacas, the camels or trees as you prefer. Completely safe and enclosed. Manager came to offer firewood which is available at any time for the permanent fire pits. Bring your own logs

Fantastic spot nice and close to London. Owners are friendly and helped us with a BBQ / fire pit. Field is big and loads of space per camp. We will be back soon!

Tomkin's Farm was a lovely place to camp for the weekend. Friendly welcome, lovely facilities, lots of toilets, gorgeous open air showers. And a bar/shop every night, and cooked breakfast each morning.. plus pizza one night! Great unexpected luxuries. Thank you guys. See you again 🙂

Beautiful site with a pony, goats and hens walking free. Friendly reception and clean everywhere. Nice pub at a short walk through the fields.

A beautiful gem. Easily accessible from the train station if you don’t fear a 30min walk. Had the lower field all to myself, but a 5min walk to the amazing sauna and toilets. The hosts were so welcoming (felt like spending time with family!) and guests very nice and considerate of others. You could easily mingle or have some time secluded depending on what you’re looking for. I’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful campsite with enough of a wild feel to feel remote, yet enough facilities that you feel comfortable. There’s a sauna! A nice hot sauna done properly, not like one in a gym. Wow, the sauna was lovely.
Great green views across the hills.
There was a nice lively atmosphere in the top field, and plenty of space if you fancied a quieter evening further down. A little pop up shop for essentials by the entrance, and the warmest campsite welcome from Heath and Katja.
We slept well after our sauna!

Tranquil, large open spaces. No noise or light pollution. The owner was lovely, very polite, professional and helpful. The alpacas are a treat to interact with and spectate, a much appreciated rarity for a campsite to have.
I would certainly stay again if in the area.

We had a fantastic weekend break at Sunnyside! Heath and Katja were very welcoming and helpful and it felt like they are building a lovely community at the site, respectful of the nature and of everyone’s experience. Very family-friendly feel, and the Finnish sauna was a great bonus too!
Would highly recommend, and hopefully see you again soon 🙏

My family and I spent a night here, we absolutely loved this site. Phil was great, really friendly and cheerful, and gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. I met his wife as well who had a lovely chat with my kids and introduced them to the ducks and chickens. This is a great, family run campsite that is ideal for a quiet getaway.
The facilities are clean and tidy, no issues at all. We stayed during a rain storm, fortunately we remained warm and dry in our campervan. Some of the other campers introduced themselves for a chat, the site definitely has a relaxed and chilled vibe that everyone embraces!
The goats and pony were in their pen when we arrived, my kids absolutely loved them!
The campsite itself is small but has great amenities, we would happily come back for another relaxing break!

Just got back from a lovely night at Sunnyside Pop-Up Camping with my 2-year-old daughter and couldn’t be happier. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot – surrounded by nature and mainly families, which gave it a really relaxed, safe atmosphere. The hosts were fantastic – friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. A perfect little escape, especially with young kids. Highly recommended!

We loved staying at Tomkin's Farm! We were there for 5 nights and, despite some stormy weather, it was brilliant. Philip's site has the perfect location; we love all the llamas, sheep, the camels and the wildlife. We also really enjoyed the breakfasts, burgers and pizzas cooked on the campsite! Best egg in a bap ever :)

We had a fantastic weekend at Sunnyside. It’s a lovely spot, with stunning walks nearby. The family who run it are so friendly and welcoming, we didn’t want for anything. The sauna was a bonus! We will definitely return.

Where to go
Tendring Coast
Also known as Essex’s Sunshine Coast, this coastal peninsula is home to the traditional holiday towns of Harwich & Dovercourt, Walton-on-the-Naze, and Clacton-on-Sea. Wildlife lovers can get their fill at reserves such as Holland Haven Country Park or Hamford Water, while hikers and bikers can explore inland nature trails or take a turn around the Blue Flag beaches. Holiday parks abound, with plenty of caravan and tent spots to choose from.
Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB
Head over the border into Suffolk to discover one of Britain’s most popular nature spots. Stretching from Felixstowe to Lowestoft, this 80-km stretch boasts a biodiverse landscape of heathland, woodland, estuary, and coast, as well as seaside towns and holiday parks aplenty. Recently, the area has expanded to include the Stour estuary, just west of Harwich.
Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley
Following the River Stour west from Manningtree, this reserve is a family favourite thanks to its lowland trails and unique artistic heritage. Here, visitors can explore what is affectionately referred to as Constable Country, stopping off in Dedham and Flatford to learn more about the artist’s life and work. Riverside camping is another highlight.
The Broads
Drive north for 90 minutes and you’ll arrive at The Broads, a vast network of waterways that draw ramblers, anglers, and birdwatchers with their biodiverse banks and riverside campsites. It’s also possible to hire out boats, kayaks, or paddleboards, so you can easily take your outdoor adventure directly to the water.
When to go
Summer on the Essex and Suffolk coasts and canals can get very busy, so it’s worth booking your stay well in advance. To avoid the crowds, consider a winter visit, which also tends to afford more intimate glimpses of the region’s wildlife.
Know before you go
- Public transport is generally convenient, though if you’re traveling further, it can be worth renting or bringing a vehicle.
- Trail maps can often be downloaded for free on a park or local borough’s website.
- Wild swimming is a popular activity in the region, but be sure to take all precautions.
- Anglers must always carry a license.
