I loved camping in the middle of nowhere. Felt very closed to nature.

Friendly hosts in a beautiful wooded area of Manitoulin Island. Darryl and Vicky invited us to a local arts festival and we enjoyed our nightly fireside chats with them.
We had lots of privacy. They were accomodating for our larger sized setup.
We are also enjoying their homemade maple syrup and jam!!

Perfect start to our holiday! Darryl and Vicky were lovely hosts and the spot to park our RV was great. Hubby and son enjoyed the fishing trip and we all loved the time around the campfire.

I loved our campsite at Darryl’s place! Very private campsite and nice trails around the property. We got to spend some time with Darryl and Vicky around the fire, such kind and fun people! Darryl told us lots about the local wildlife. Great place to stop on the first leg of a long trip and a memorable experience.

Dear den (I think that’s the one…) is a great secluded spot, yet open and huge and natural remote from the outhouse (toilet) and Daryl and Vicky’s house, still easily accessible, either by a path from the house or by a forest road without bothering the host. 10 mins by car, easily done cycling also, from Misery Bay and its beautiful trails; about half an hour from Sheshegwaning beautiful trail along the Georgian bay; about 30 min drive from Gore Bay. Great showers may be found at marinas or try the lakes…

Great spot on the far side of Manitoulin Island! Darryl is a great host with a lot going on his property if you're interested in off-grid lifestyle! We had a great time enjoying their fire with the hosts and enjoyed our tent spot for the night.

Darryl’s place was excellent! Gorgeous spot, very private, and super easy to get to. You get the feeling of privately camping in the woods while being right near an outhouse and the highway. And Darryl was very helpful and friendly. Couldn’t recommend enough!

Darryl and Vicky where wonderful hosts. The property is big and densely forested. They have made a excellent private tent spot. The little forest clearing kept the wintery winds away and gave us the most incredible view of the night sky. We got some great hardwood for our hot tent from them that kept us super warm. They are very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. It was a great way to get to know the island. We will definitely come back.

I stayed here for 1 night while motorcycle camping/touring the island. The property is very secluded. There's an outhouse on-site. My only complaint was, there was only one designated fire pit close to the house, I needed the fire to cook my food, dry out gear and provide warmth, so I had to sleep close to the main house. Others might not find this an issue. I was tight for time so didn't explore the property. Darryl was very welcoming on arrive,

The place almost at the end of the island, in sort of way , it's a good thing .
You really in the nature, but the potty(toilet) is far from your campsite, luckily we had a small camping toilet in our truck.
Good to sleep one night and move on your trip.

We loved camping on Darryl’s land! It’s huge, with lots of things to do and explore. Darryl and Vicky were also amazing- very kind, funny and genuine people.
Originally, we were looking for local campsites in Manitoulin Island; however, due to the long weekend, everything was booked. Luckily, we came across Darryl’s posting on Hipcamp. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the hosts who gave us a tour of their land which comprised of many different trails to explore. They provided us with various options on where to set up- either close to their home or secluded and deeper into the woods (we chose to be secluded). Our site was perfect- right off the road so it was easy to back in and out with the car but deep enough so that we were away from everything. Our site was surrounded by tall, overcasting trees which shaded us from the daytime sun but was open enough to view the starry night sky.
If you aren’t coming with an itinerary, not to worry because Darryl offers many different excursions which can really elevate your experience on the island!
If you’re planning a trip to the island, I would highly recommend staying at Darryl’s site. In addition to the amazing campsite, you’ll also have wonderful hosts/tour guides! 10/10 recommend!!! Thank you Darryl and Vicky for such a wonderful stay!

Red Pine Forest with Extras!
Upon arrival you'll meet up with Darryl, who'll direct you to the few cutouts near his house to pitch a tent - and not so subtly encourage you to instead take your tent and pitch it anywhere in the woods he owns, as deep as you dare go. And it's a beautiful wood - thick with trees, plenty of pathways to explore, lots of animals and birds and critters to see. I recommend going into the forest, it was a great night. Barely any mosquitos and no animals bothered me.
Campfires are limited to the communal firepit by the house, where Darryl will take care of tending to it while chatting you up.

Just what we were looking for! Off- grid property with a friendly host. The sky was beautiful with no light pollution. The later August temperatures kept the bugs away. Close to soooo much water. We put up a tent in the yard and sat around the campfire soaking up the quietness.

Red Pine Forest with Extras!
Darryl was an awesome host!! There were several choices of sites to set up camp, a bonfire pit, and a well kept outhouse. He gave us a tour of his incredible garden, which included berry samples of course. He also does fishing trips and was able to accommodate us for a last minute day trip of fishing. Friendliest Hipcamp host we’ve ever had! 12/10 would recommend, will definitely stay again next time we are on Manitoulin!

Darryl and Vicki are great. Darryl was easy to get a hold of. I was able to follow the directions right to the location. The spot was perfect for what I needed. The fire pit and compost outhouse were close to camp site.

Darryl is a very nice and chatty fellow. He’s the type is host that you can do plenty of activities with. His house is on the far-end of the island and he has plenty of land and is resting on a large forest. There are not many houses around and wherever you set camp, you will truly feel like you are in the wild. He offers his guests a chance to set up whenever they wish, either close to the house or even more remote and further in the forest.

This campsite was a dream! Darryl and Vicky are incredibly welcoming and made our last night on the island very enjoyable! There’s a big fire pit very central to the site and an outhouse steps away from the fire pit. The trails looked very enticing and there’s lots of opportunity to explore the land. We can’t wait to check them out when we return. The site is very close to misery bay which was one of our favourite stops in our trip.
