This is a private gated ranch, and is NOT A FANCY RANCH. It is a working ranch and there is also a 501(c)3 non profit charity organization that keeps 9 horses at the ranch. The ranch is home to 35 +- Equines (Horses, Mules, Donkeys) performance and competition horses and has a horse & carriage driving school. We do not rent riding horses or have riding horses/lessons. Only driving horses. You may schedule a carriage ride for an extra fee. The non profit charity organization is called Equine Safe Haven, a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization teaches horsemanship and carriage driving, using horses that were on the list to transport to Mexico for slaughter. Come pet and love on them, as they have a second chance in life and the program makes a difference to those that are economically or physically disadvantaged. We have water hydrant fill stations, and a BBQ area for you to use. Please ask when you arrive. We can accommodate any size RV up to and including tractor trailers. We have two 50 amp sites and one 30 amp site if you need electric. Check in info: CHECK IN TIME: BETWEEN 3pm and 8pm -if you are tent camping please get here before sunset - it gets VERY dark here (great for stargazing) , and hard to see in the back acreage. If you come in after dark, we will park you up front. Gate locks by 8pm and unlocked at 7:30am. NOTE: THE GATE IS LOCKED BETWEEN 8pm and 7:30am. Checkout is by 11am. The best camping near Pancho Villa State Park guide

Overview

About

Ok, Pancho Villa kind of sounds like a really awesome mexican restaurant, but we promise what you’ll get at Pancho Villa State Park is a load of fun and with a ton of history! Besides the serene desert setting, there’s a museum in the park where you can learn about the Pancho Villa Raid and the history of Camp Furlong. Though Camp Furlong doesn’t exist anymore, there IS plenty of camping for tent-lovers and RVers in the cushy campgrounds, so you can chill under the desert sky and around the campfire. If you stay a few days and have a passport, Pancho Villa is so close to the Mexican border you can just head down there and find yourself that authentic, tasty meal, too!

Notable campgrounds

  • Developed Campsites: Equipped with electric hookups and water, these sites are perfect for RVs and tents alike.
  • Primitive Camping: For a more rugged experience, 'boondocking' sites offer a chance to connect with nature.
  • First Come, First Serve (South Loop): Ideal for spontaneous travelers, offering both primitive and electrical sites.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure a spot at the Developed Campsites, especially during peak seasons.
  • For a spontaneous trip, try the South Loop's first come, first serve sites.
  • Check the park's website for cancellation policies to snag last-minute openings.
  • Explore nearby camping options for additional opportunities in the surrounding BLM land.

When to go

The best time to visit Pancho Villa State Park is from October to May, when the Exhibit Hall is open daily and the weather is mild. Summer months can be extremely hot, making outdoor activities less comfortable. Plan your visit around Camp Furlong Day in March for a historical reenactment.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's website for any alerts on closures or restrictions before your visit.
  • Remember to bring plenty of water and sun protection for the desert climate.
  • Day-use passes are required and can be purchased online or at the park.
  • RV dump stations and comfort stations with showers and flush toilets are available.
  • For a unique experience, attend the special events like Pancho's Car Show in October.
