The Orchard - Bell Tent Glamping NB

4 sites ¡ Lodging100 acres ¡ Tay Creek, NB
Located only 25 minutes from Fredericton, NB, this sprawling old-growth apple orchard features 3 privately placed bell tents, a hot-tub, barbecues, and indoor lodge with kitchen, bathroom, games room, and library space. Described by a past guest as "something out of a fairytale", the orchard is defined by towering old-growth apple trees, a meandering brook with multiple bridge crossings, meadows brimming with lupins and golden rod, the remnants of stone fences from when the land was farmed, patches of wild berries, and a growing network of trails connecting all these enchanting elements. Perhaps even more beautiful after sunset, strings of fairy lights illuminate the paths to the tent sites and fireflies fill the void in between. An unofficial dark sky sanctuary, you will enjoy unparalleled views of the stars while your ears are treated to the distant calls of bullfrogs and the hoot of owls flying overhead. We look forward to welcoming you to the fairytale orchard!

Dream Seed Farm

4 sites ¡ RVs, Tents18 acres ¡ Fredericton, NB
My dream has always been to have a farm to share all the beautiful abundance of life and lots of space to play. Since 2008, I have worked in my home studio sewing Hanging HUGS custom luxury hammocks and shipping them around the world to make the world a cozy place. HUGS have also funded my world travels and humanitarian projects, teaching many people how to make hammocks. You too can learn to sew your own HUG and enjoy it here. An expedition sea kayaker and expert rock climber with more than 20 years experience giving clients a unique look at our province, it's my pleasure to introduce you to my favourite spots. Our sailboat is spacious, comfortable and fun... ready when you are. This farm is a school of life. I am happy to share what I have learned about growing food, and my wife is an amazing cook who can teach how to make Korean food. Lots to do to fill a week, or just kick back in a hammock for a day by the pond, writing journal to reflect, soaking in the peaceful feelings. Learn more about this land: 1800's homestead near Jemseg River where our sailboat is moored. Gardens are abundant, kayaking is beautiful, fishing is good, and swimming is great! Welcome home!

SUPER BONUS:  Registered guests can enjoy FREE use of our canoes and kayaks at our shore (depending on weather conditions). (Note that SWIMMING IS NOT ADVISED, as it is somewhat muddy/marshy, and shallow) ... but it's PERFECT for small watercraft. Hipcamp named us a runner-up for the best Hipcamp to visit in New Brunswick in 2023, and we look forward to providing a great experience in 2024! If you're looking for a place to enjoy nature and solitude.  THIS IS IT! To be candid, this IS NOT a party place!  So, if that's what you're looking for, this is definitely NOT for you!  Our goal is to provide a safe and peaceful place for our guests (and us) to Relax, Get Outdoors and Enjoy Nature, Get Back To Basics, and to Unplug and Unwind! Here at "The Old Canoe", we currently have two vacation rentals (Cabin 4, and "Main Street" the Bus).  These are available in the warmer months only.  We may add a couple more in the future, but our goal is to keep it small and quaint so that our guests have their space and enjoy their privacy. Cell phone service is very poor in this area, so it's a great opportunity to UNPLUG and get away from the daily hustle and bustle!  We do provide Free LIMITED Wi-Fi for registered guests who would like to check messages or emails, etc. This property has a variety of terrain, including clearings, forest, thickets, paths, maple groves, and the Cumberland Bay Stream which flows through marsh wetlands and empties into Grand Lake (the largest fresh water lake in New Brunswick).  It offers an abundance of wildlife, plant life, fresh air, tranquility, relaxation, and has the ideal setting for leisurely water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, row boating, or paddle boarding. During your stay, you might see birds such as woodpeckers, wild turkeys, ducks, geese, cranes, or eagles.  You may even catch a glimpse of foxes, deer, moose, otters, beavers, frogs, or turtles!  Don’t forget your camera! Have a siesta or read a book while relaxing in your hammocks.  Stroll through paths or the Shore Road, and Relax in various seating areas throughout our property. If you plan on going fishing, it is your responsibility to check with Natural Resources and Energy Development for license information.  We do not provide fishing gear. Cumberland Bay is a small community, centrally located between three major New Brunswick cities (Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John).  It has it's own volunteer Fire Department, churches, and a small public wharf nearby (The Range Wharf). The nearby communities of Young's Cove, Waterborough, and Chipman are all within a 10 to 15 minute drive.  You'll find churches, convenience stores, gas bars, take-outs, local markets, public swimming, marina, and boat launch.  In your vacation rental, there is a Welcome Binder with detailed information about these places. Camping near Fredericton guide

Overview

From the Historic Garrison District where you can watch the Canadian Army’s changing of the guard reenactment to a hip urban core with a brewery trail, Fredericton is a fantastic city to spend a few days. Take a kayak tour of the Saint John River, or rent a bike to explore nature trails and historic neighbourhoods, then stay at one of several campgrounds and RV resorts in and around Fredericton. The city is perfectly situated to access some of New Brunswick's most beautiful parks for camping.

Where to go

Kouchibouguac National Park

Sitting on the Acadian Coast of New Brunswick, this stunning park combines lush forest with salt-marshes that are home to thousands of birds, and sandy beaches that spill into the warm ocean. Kouchibouguac offers amazing hiking, kayaking, fishing, clam digging, and all manner of Parks Canada-provided activities (including going out in a traditional Indigenous canoe). Year-round backcountry camping is available, as are seasonal serviced campsites and oTENTiks.

Bear Island

This tiny community is a great spot for hanging out in nature and having a low-key break, with some awesome attractions and a sweet campsite that comes with its own private beach, a swimming pool, and trails. Nearby in Nackawic is the World’s Largest Axe, a cable suspension bridge, and Howland Falls.

Mactaquac Provincial Park

This heavily wooded park was built for year-round camping. Aside from hiking, fishing, kayaking, and enjoying the numerous freshwater beaches, Mactaquac features a marina, an activity center, and ziplines. In winter, Mactaquac Provincial Park offers sleigh rides, groomed ski trails, skating, fat-bike rentals, and two groomed sledding hills.

When to go

Up until June, the weather in this part of New Brunswick can be pretty changeable (and cold and wet), but summers are warm and can be pleasant right through to the end of October, when fall kicks in along the Saint John River. You can experience everything Fredericton offers year-round, but some attractions and campsites outside of the city operate only on a seasonal basis.

Know before you go

  • Cell service in less-populated areas of New Brunswick can be patchy, so don't rely on your phone as your only map if going off into parks.
  • French is widely spoken in Fredericton, as New Brunswick is Canada's only legally bilingual province (and all services must be offered in both English and French). If travelling north of the city toward Quebec, you’ll find the French language much more commonly spoken.
  • Free camping on Crown Lands (as in owned by the government but not a designated park) is permitted for short periods in New Brunswick.
